Gratos saludos tengan todos mis viajeros de todas partes del mundo, es un placer para mí saludarles en este lunes inicio de semana para mostrarle otro lugar de historia y arquitectura en el municipio en donde vivo San Francisco.

A warm greeting to all my fellow travellers from all over the world; it is a pleasure for me to greet you on this Monday, the first day of the week, to show you another place of historical and architectural interest in the town where I live, San Francisco.

La iglesia Santísimo Cristo ubica ubicada justamente en toda la avenida Principal de San Francisco es un templo parroquial con una arquitectura bastante hermosa e imponente el cual posee más de 160 años, fue fabricado justamente en el año 1866, inicialmente cuando fue construida solamente era una pequeña y modesta capilla pero a lo largo del tiempo gracias al legado del Padre Vilchez, quien apostó por un gran proyecto, la iglesia fue cambiada y remodelada por completo lo cual posee una arquitectura con aires europeos bastante impresionante para todo aquel el que la observa.

The Church of the Holy Christ, situated right on San Francisco’s Main Avenue, is a parish church with truly beautiful and imposing architecture, dating back more than 160 years. It was built in 1866; initially, when it was first constructed, it was merely a small and modest chapel, but over time, thanks to the legacy of Father Vilchez, who committed to a major project, the church was completely transformed and remodelled, resulting in a European-style architecture that is truly impressive to all who see it.

Se podría decir que es la iglesia con mayor antigüedad del municipio de San Francisco y suele ser reconocida como Basílica Menor de San Francisco, durante muchos años fue conocida como la iglesia del Padre Vilchez por el legado que dejó "El Curita", muy famoso y reconocido por sus grandes aportes a la música, cultura y deporte de este gran municipio que en ese entonces pertenecía a la Ciudad de Maracaibo este sacerdote duró mucho tiempo en esta entidad hasta su muerte y fue involucrado en las construcciones y renovación del templo parroquial.

It could be said that it is the oldest church in the municipality of San Francisco and is usually recognised as the Minor Basilica of San Francisco; For many years it was known as the Church of Father Vilchez because of the legacy left by ‘El Curita’, who was very famous and renowned for his great contributions to the music, culture and sport of this great municipality, which at that time belonged to the city of Maracaibo. This priest served here for a long time until his death and was involved in the construction and renovation of the parish church.

Ahora bien en esta iglesia fui bautizada justamente en el año 1999, desde ese entonces no había tenido la oportunidad de entrar siempre había pasado por su frente y me llamaba la atención su hermosa arquitectura, es por eso que quise entrar en una ceremonia especial de recibimiento de las reliquias de Nuestra Señora de Chiquinquirá, poder profundizar en cada uno de los detalles de esta hermosa iglesia pues posee una nave central que conduce hasta una enorme cruz, un altar totalmente fijado rodeado de grandes bases y pedestales de gran tamaño e imponencia, con un semi arco totalmente blanco rodeado de muchos vitrales pintorescos, coloridos sus alturas es totalmente blanco y no posee algún tipo de relieve o pintura, esto refleja la pureza del lugar.

Now, I was baptised in this church back in 1999; since then, I hadn’t had the chance to go inside – I’d always just walked past the front, and its beautiful architecture had always caught my eye. That’s why I wanted to go in for a special ceremony to welcome the relics of Our Lady of Chiquinquirá, so that I could take in every detail of this beautiful church, which has a central nave leading up to an enormous cross, a fixed altar surrounded by large, imposing bases and pedestals, with a completely white semi-circular arch flanked by many picturesque, colourful stained-glass windows; the upper parts are entirely white and feature no relief carvings or paintings, reflecting the purity of the place.

Justamente la iglesia se encontraba las reliquias verdaderas de Nuestra Señora de Chiquinquirá visitando esta parroquia, normalmente esto no es muy común porque la Virgen normalmente está siempre en su casa en la Basílica Santuario por lo que había que aprovechar esta oportunidad única de poder visitarla y pasar un rato diferente con ella, ya que la iglesia se encontraba en aniversario 160 años, cabe destacar que la espiritualidad de todos nosotros se centran en la aparición de la Virgen de Chiquinquirá y cómo ella decidió quedarse en nuestra ciudad para siempre.

The church happened to have the genuine relics of Our Lady of Chiquinquirá on display during a visit to this parish; this is not usually very common, as the Virgin is normally always at her home in the Basilica Sanctuary, so we had to make the most of this unique opportunity to visit her and spend some special time with her, given that the church was celebrating its 160th anniversary; it is worth noting that our spirituality centres on the apparition of Our Lady of Chiquinquirá and how she chose to remain in our city forever.

Ahora bien es necesario conocer cada uno de los detalles arquitectónicos que posee esta iglesia en su exterior, el la que exalta una cúpula de gran tamaño que esta puede observarse desde distintas localidades del municipio debido a su altura, posee diversos tipos de diseños modernos, clasicos, esta pintada de color blanco posee delicados diseños de color dorado, el elemnto que se llama el mayor del protagonismo es su gran cúpula dorada, posee tres puertas centrales la principal y ambas en sus lados laterales, como también una derecha e izquierda, en forma triangulares fabricadas en madera.

It is now necessary to examine each of the architectural details of this church’s exterior, which is dominated by a large dome that can be seen from various parts of the municipality due to its height; it features a variety of modern and classical designs, It is painted white and features delicate gold-coloured designs; the most striking feature is its large golden dome. It has three central doors – the main one and one on each side – as well as a right-hand and a left-hand door, all triangular in shape and made of wood.

El gran aporte religioso y cultural de esta iglesia sostiene el legado del monseñor Luis Guillermo Vilchez, quien fue su sacerdote durante muchos años y este se encargó de impulsar el deporte del municipio a través de la práctica del béisbol, entre otro así como también fundó diversos tipos de conjuntos de gaitas que hasta la actualidad, siguen funcionando así como también el amor profundo hacia este templo que permitió embellecerlo entre otros más y darle un protagonismo central, este personaje se quedó plasmado en la cultura, religiosidad, música y tradición del municipio San Francisco.

The great religious and cultural contribution of this church upholds the legacy of Monsignor Luis Guillermo Vilchez, who served as its priest for many years and was responsible for promoting sport in the municipality through the game of baseball, among other activities, and also founded various bagpipe bands which continue to perform to this day. Furthermore, his deep love for this church led to its beautification, amongst other things, and ensured it took centre stage. This figure has left an indelible mark on the culture, religious life, music and traditions of the municipality of San Francisco.

Por último este templo es una hermosa joya arquitectónica es hermoso ver cómo este templo se encuentra dentro de nuestra geografía municipal y poder contar con una infraestructura tan impresionante la paz la cercanía que transmite y también en este templo se rinde fe a unos de los Santos más hermosos de la Iglesia Católica como lo es San Francisco de Asís.

Finally, this church is a beautiful architectural gem; it is wonderful to see how it forms part of our local landscape and to have such an impressive building at our disposal – the peace and sense of closeness it conveys. Furthermore, this church is dedicated to one of the most beloved saints of the Catholic Church: Saint Francis of Assisi.
