Hello travelers, happy Tuesday to everyone.

We left the San Isidro Labrador Chapel behind and continued along a long path up a steep hill leading to the Monument of the Virgin of Peace. The monument is surrounded by green grass, beautiful trees, and flowers, filling visitors with a sense of harmony and well-being thanks to such beautiful landscapes that seem straight out of a fairy tale.

We were getting closer and closer to the Peace Monument, which was partially shrouded in mist. Before getting any closer to it, I could see the tiny houses that make up the state capital of Trujillo. I was so happy to be there—I hadn’t been since I was 13—and that moment brought back endless memories of spending vacations there with my family. I’m eagerly looking forward to the day I can bring my girls there.

We reached the base of the monument, and just as we were about to climb up, we decided to grab a bite to eat instead, because there was a huge line of people waiting to go up. we turned back and took another path, one lined with pine trees, their scent filling the air. Nearby was a park where children could play, and further on we found a wishing well where there were some bills and coins at the bottom; a small sculpture of the Virgin of Peace stood out.

While Ricardo and I were looking for something to eat, we came across a little house for elves in a tree trunk. Remember that they are the protectors of nature, and in the state of Trujillo they are called Momoy.

We found a place to eat; a bowl of shelled corn which would be our lunch and a small glass of juice cost $2. It was delicious and came with sour cream, fresh cheese, and yellow cheese. We were happy with our choice and took the opportunity to buy a fridge magnet.

We went back to the monument, and the line was still long, but it didn't matter because we weren't hungry anymore, so we were able to wait patiently for about 20 minutes until it was our turn.

We reached the base of the mountain, which is about 18 meters high. From there, we could see the beautiful, majestic mountains touching the sky, and we could also see the people waiting to climb up.

Between the steps, at 22 meters, is the left hand; from here I could feel closer to the sky. A few steps later, at 26 meters, was the right hand, where the Virgin holds the dove of peace. The panoramic view was spectacular. At this point, I was more scared and didn’t want to keep climbing, so I just looked up and could see her face. We decided not to climb any further, but I felt happy to have made it past the halfway point of the monument.

Finally, we descended and said goodbye to the largest monument in the Americas, and we were able to get a clear view of the Virgin of Peace from afar—what a source of pride that she is located in my beautiful Venezuela.
