Last week I went to the city of Turmero and took the opportunity to visit the Ateneo Theater, which opened its doors about a month ago. Previously, it served as an art gallery for the artist Mario Abreu, but with this recent renovation and expansion, it is now a recreational venue.

The theater has several spaces, including an auditorium named after Oswaldo Pérez Liendo, which is perfect for events. In fact, during our stay, they were setting it up for a party or something similar. It’s quite spacious, has a stage, and is air-conditioned.

There is a garden with two pergolas equipped with lighting. I really like the idea of preserving the tamarind and pomelo trees that are already there, as well as adding wooden benches and tables where you can spend time with family and friends. In this new phase, they’ve opened an ice cream shop, a café, and a small restaurant on the terrace.

Art lovers will also enjoy the art gallery of artist Mario Abreu, located here. In this area, they've created a lovely central plaza. At first, I didn't understand why the sign at the entrance said "everything in one place" until I entered the Ateneo; admission is completely free.

That day I learned something new: you shouldn't use a flash when taking pictures of works of art because, over time, it damages the paint. That's why they prohibit the use of camera flashes there—it doesn't cause any harm, but if many people do the same thing, it does.
