Heading to The Lucía’s Natural Jacuzzis: Portuguesa [En-Es]

1.jpg

After walking for hours and climbing up and down mountains, we finally reached the riverbed of The Lucía. Our next goal was to follow the entire course of the river until we arrived at the natural jacuzzis. If you’d like to know more about how I got here, you can read posts 1 and 2. The entrance, or the point where we accessed the river, was truly impressive.

Even though it had rained earlier that morning, the river water was a stunning turquoise color. According to what we learned before arriving, this happens because the water comes from a natural spring and due to the unique characteristics of the massive rocks in the river. If it hadn’t rained, the color of the water would have been even more beautiful.

Something that really amazed me was the enormous amount of rocks along the riverbed and the way the water bubbled over them. I touched the water, and it wasn’t too cold or too warm; it was perfect for swimming. It was incredible to think that a place like this was more than three hours away from where I live and hidden deep in the mountains, especially considering the size of the rocks and the power of the water current.

From what I could tell, when it rains heavily, the river currents must be relentless. My brother and cousin changed quickly and told me we needed to move fast to reach the jacuzzis. I didn’t know exactly where they were or how long it would take to get there from that point. However, the further we went, the more amazed I was by the beauty around us.

In some stretches of the river, the water level was very low, making it easy to walk, but that wasn’t the case along the entire route. Some areas were so stunning that they captivated you and held your attention simply because of how breathtaking they were.

46.jpg

Along the way, we came across a massive tree that had clearly been dragged by the river current. To understand the power of this river, I only had to stand next to its roots, which were about my height—and I’m 1.88 meters tall. It was unbelievable, and the trunk was incredibly long as well.

I had to take off my shoes and put on sandals; it felt like the best option because of the number of rocks. I felt comfortable. Since we didn’t have a place to leave our things, we carried our backpacks, snacks, and motorcycle helmets with us. My brother even said he would keep his helmet on until we arrived because if he fell and hit his head, he wouldn’t make it out alive, hahaha.

19.jpg20.jpg18.jpg

As we continued, I came across erosion on the side of a mountain caused by the water. The photo doesn’t reflect the real size of the mountain, which was about six to eight meters high. It fascinated me that part of the mountain was made of stone slabs and another part of soil. It had already begun to collapse because of the river’s strength.

The further we went along the river, the larger the rocks became. But the most beautiful thing was how the vegetation surrounded both sides of the riverbed. I wasn’t bored at all; I wanted to keep walking and reach the final destination.

15.jpg

In the middle of the riverbed, I found a massive rock completely covered in creeping plants. It was beautiful and reminded me of the film Castle in the Sky by Studio Ghibli (I love that movie). If you’ve seen it, you’ll remember Laputa, where everything was covered in vegetation after its people left.

24.jpg

From that point, I decided to take a photo of the river. We still had a long way to go before reaching The Lucía’s jacuzzis, but everything was growing more interesting and entertaining because of the immense beauty of the place. Everything was surrounded by the energy of nature.

In this section of the river, everything became darker because of the dense plants above us that blocked the sunlight. The light filtered through faintly; I adjusted my phone camera a bit, but it was only possible because very little light reached us.

47.jpg

We kept walking because our breaks had to be short. We all wanted to swim, but we also knew that if we continued moving forward, we would eventually find something even more impressive.

https://files.peakd.com/file/peakd-hive/neruel/23vhywM1C1yBpv5gfFBFrLPmnEDgBHX651SZWfvgsJXUtetFFaA5DMZLHrf6QTE3q9Bgt.jpghttps://files.peakd.com/file/peakd-hive/neruel/23vhyWjiJ5cYBWbRoy7DMq2DGsVLTGdP5RX1PwmFRdThuhvFEJzMxtspMkYhB9ezLn1YR.jpghttps://files.peakd.com/file/peakd-hive/neruel/23uQvSfWj2XSj8TW2G1JS6uu2cTmV65eTXV8M7sHAX4ufLQqwKxn7nYZNJ2RK1JwdaPCs.jpg

The path became more complicated due to the elevation changes along the river. I had to climb onto a massive rock to keep going. I almost fell, but it wasn’t anything serious. If I could do it, I could keep going.

49.jpg

This was one of the most challenging places I explored in 2025. I feel that every step I took was perfect and fulfilling. It filled me with a magical experience and helped me redefine my goals for 2026.

34.jpg

We still hadn’t reached The Lucía’s jacuzzis, but we were getting significantly closer. It took about 10 to 15 more minutes walking along the riverbed, and every part of it amazed me. I was completely in love with the beauty of this place. I was fascinated; even though we still had a bit to go, I simply admired how wonderful everything was. I enjoyed every second of this adventure.

Me sentí cómodo.

It is seriously so pretty in there, the greens everywhere, the water and even those rocks. Like the whole place would look different if one of them is not present. It is also a very nice place to rest, I think you'll really find the peace of mind in there as you enjoy the view.

The natural beauty that you show us today is incredible, it makes you want to be there and not stop looking at every rock, every green space, even that rock covered with that wonderful vine or the height of that hillside with all the vegetation.

The river is wonderful, it doesn't matter that it rained, on the contrary, the movement of the water is more intense and the photographs are marvellous. I hope the rocks were not slippery because without shoes it could be dangerous.

Even if the final destination of the route had not been reached so far, the important thing is the process, the path, it is like life itself. That's what I was thinking about while I was reading you and admiring that paradise. Thank you very much Neruel, a big hug! Here's to more adventures!🤗
