[🏖️ENG-🌊ESP] Isla del Rey, a little paradise in Puerto Cabello, Venezuela.

I remember when I was little, the adults in my family would take my siblings, my cousins, and me to the beach on special occasions. I believe the beautiful and fun memories I have of those getaways are partly why I love everything related to the sea so much—experienced from the shore, of course! I wouldn't dare take up a seafaring life, and I don't even know how to swim 🤣.

​🌊Recuerdo que cuando era pequeña, los adultos de la familia nos llevaban a mis hermanos, mis primos y a mí a la playa en ocasiones especiales, y creo que los recuerdos bonitos y divertidos que tengo de esas escapadas son en parte lo que hace que me guste tanto todo lo relacionado con el mar; el mar experimentado desde la orilla claro, ¡no me atrevería a lanzarme a la vida marinera, y ni siquiera sé nadar!🤣

🏖️ Fortunately, the city of Puerto Cabello is relatively close to where my family lives, which made it possible to make the trip every now and then. If we had been settled in a district far from the coast, deeper into the country's interior, perhaps we wouldn't have known the sea back then—just as there are still so many beautiful tourist spots in Venezuela that we have yet to explore.

​🌊 Afortunadamente la ciudad de Puerto Cabello queda moderadamente cerca de donde vive mi familia, lo que favorecía poder hacer el viaje de vez en cuando. Si hubiésemos estado asentados en algún Distrito lejano a la costa, más al interior del país, quizás no hubiésemos podido conocer el mar en ese entonces, así como todavía nos faltan por conocer tantos lugares turísticos hermosos de Venezuela.

🏖️ This port, being so important to the country, has many beaches, and we still have quite a few left to visit and discover.

​🌊 Pero este puerto tan importante del país tiene muchas playas, y aún nos quedan unas cuantas por visitar y conocer.

🏖️ It was so exciting for my husband and me when we agreed last year that we could save some money to go visit our country for the first time in many years since we migrated. The main goal, of course: to spend time with our family and friends.

​🌊 Fue muy emocionante para mi esposo y para mí cuando acordamos el año pasado que podíamos guardar algo de dinero para ir a visitar nuestro país por primera vez en muchos años desde que migramos. El objetivo principal, por su puesto: compartir con nuestros familiares y amigos.

🏖️ During our month-long stay, the days flew by. Most of the time was spent going from place to place, visiting our families, who don't live very close to each other. We also came down with the flu during the last week. In short, we were having such a good time that the month was ending before we even realized it. But a few days before our return, some of my husband's friends took charge of the plans, picked us up in their car, and took us to Puerto Cabello. We were on our way to contemplate once again some of the landscapes of a place so special in my childhood memories.

​🌊 Estando allá durante un mes los días se pasaron volando. La mayor parte del tiempo la aprovechamos yendo de un lado a otro, visitando a nuestras familias, que no viven muy cerca una de la otra. También nos enfermamos de una gripe en la última semana. En resumen, lo estábamos pasando tan bien que el mes ya iba a terminar sin que nos diéramos cuenta. Pero unos amigos de mi esposo tomaron las riendas de los planes a pocos días de nuestro regreso, pasaron recogiéndonos en su carro y nos llevaron a Puerto Cabello. Rumbo a contemplar una vez más algunos de los parajes de un lugar tan especial en mis recuerdos de la infancia.

🏖️ This time, however, our friends took us to a spot in the Port we had never been to before: a cluster of beaches within the Naval Base. Access used to be restricted to military use, but it is now open to tourism.

​🌊 Pero esta vez nuestros amigos nos llevaron a un punto del Puerto en el que nunca habíamos estado, un conjunto de playas dentro de la Base Naval, cuyo acceso solía estar restringido a uso militar y ahora está abierto al turismo.

🏖️ Upon entering the base, there is a $5 entrance fee. We were then led to the Playa Delfín pier, where you pay $3 per person for the boat trip to Isla del Rey, which is the closest island to the mainland. I was quite surprised by the prices; honestly, I thought it would be more expensive. Moreover, both the pier beach and the island beach are very well-maintained and clean.

​🌊 Al entrar a la base hay que pagar una entrada de 5$. Después fuimos conducidos al embarcadero de la Playa Delfín, donde se pagan 3$ por persona por el viaje en lancha desde allí a la Isla del Rey, que es la más cercana a tierra firme. Los precios me sorprendieron bastante, la verdad yo creí que sería más costoso. Además tanto la playa del embarcadero como la de la isla están muy cuidadas y limpias.

🏖️ Additionally, the boat operators were incredibly kind and attentive, helping each passenger embark and disembark and ensuring we all followed the necessary measures for a safe trip.

​🌊 Además, los operadores de la lancha fueron súper amables y atentos, ayudando a cada pasajero a embarcar y desembarcar, y asegurándose de que todos cumpliéramos con las medidas necesarias para que hiciéramos un viaje seguro.

​🏖️ Since we arrived quite early, there were no other people besides us and the other family sharing the boat ride. Seeing the crystal-clear water and white sand mixed with golden and pink tones practically empty gave me the feeling of being in a dream, or in paradise. As the day went on, more people arrived, but it was never crowded. Our friends, who go there often, told us it’s always quiet and peaceful. It was almost like being on a private island.

​🌊 Como llegamos bastante temprano no habían más personas además de nosotros y la otra familia con la que compartimos el trayecto en lancha. Ver prácticamente vacía la playa de agua cristalina y arena blanca mezclada con tonos dorados y rosados me dio la sensación de estar en un sueño, o en el paraíso. Al transcurrir el día llegaron más personas, pero la afluencia no fue demasiada y nuestros amigos, que van allí seguido, nos dijeron que siempre que van hay poca gente y es muy tranquilo. Fue casi como estar en una isla privada.

🏖️ I took this other photo from the boat. I really like it, even though my finger is in the frame, because you can see the bright sunbeam passing through the few clouds in the sky.

​🌊 Esta otra foto la tomé en la lancha, me gustó mucho aunque aparezca mi dedo, porque se ve el rayo de sol luminoso que pasaba entre las pocas nubes que había.

🏖️ Apparently, this pink hue in the sand is found on Caribbean beaches surrounded by coral reefs. It is the remains of these reefs and the fossils of small microorganisms living in them that wash up with the waves, tinting the shore with their beautiful color.

​🌊 Al parecer este color rosado en la arena se ve en las playas caribeñas que están rodeadas de arrecifes de coral y son los restos de estos y los fósiles de los pequeños microorganismos que viven en ellos los que llegan con las olas hasta la playa, tiñendo la orilla con su hermoso color.

🏖️ While we were swimming, we saw many little fish under that dock over there. Since I don’t swim, my main entertainment was staying right there in the shallow water, watching those cute creatures.

​🌊 Cuando nos estábamos bañando vimos muchos pecesitos bajo ese muelle de allí; como yo no nado, fue mi mayor entretenimiento quedarme allí donde el agua es bajita observando a esas lindas criaturas.

🏖️ Then another companion arrived—a feathered one this time. When I took this photo, he seemed to be meditating while contemplating the horizon. I took more photos of this model, but I’ll share them in another post; you’ll see how handsome he is 😌.

​🌊 Luego llegó otro acompañante, esta vez un plumífero, que cuando le tomé esta foto parecía estar meditando mientras contemplaba el horizonte. A este modelo le hice más fotos, pero las compartiré en otro post, ya verán lo guapo que es😌.
