After the sakura blossom in early spring, the bluebells are the next gift from nature each year. In UK, we are lucky that half of the world's bluebells can be found here, and there are many bluebell walks around the country.

Yesterday I set off on a 3km bluebell walk but ended up walking over 12km because we parked at a different spot, and couldn't find our way in and out of the woods. Bluebells are found in woods, where they grow best in shades. The woods I wanted to go is surrounded by private farmland, some give the public right of way, and some don't. We had to find a way in without trespassing on private land. Some cows were grazing in the first piece of land we entered. I was quite worried as we had to walk right next to them, I even took off my bright red wind breaker.... just in case!!! It was only after we got to the edge of the field did I dare to take a photo of them. I'd love to have done a close shot.

This was the first sign of the carpet of bluebell. It's always mesmerising to see them each year. But we weren't in the woods yet and still had to find a way in. I think we must have walked for 3 or 4 km on the periphery of the woods, but it wasn't too bad, as the countryside was amazing and it was a beautiful day.

After walking for over two hours, we finally found the entrance. This little path leads into the Prior's Wood Nature Reserve and the bluebells. At last!!!
Someone from Avon Wildlife Trust who manages the area was there promoting their work. This is the first time I've seen them or similar organisation do outreach work like this. It's important that walkers appreciate and value nature when we are out and about. Later on during my walk, I saw some people had walked onto the bluebells damaging them, probably all because they wanted to take that IG photo. It was pretty sad to see it how people disrespect nature.

Thanks to Avon Wildlife Trust, the walk is very well maintained, and the path circles around the woods. As I ventured in, I saw more and more bluebells. Initially, it was small patches dotted here and there, then they started to thicken on both sides. There were quite a lot of fallen trees around and instead of clearing them all away, it seems the Trust had placed some strategically to blend in with the environment. Some were placed to stop people from going down the slopes, others as a natural seat for that important photo. And some, well, they're just stunning where they are.
Please enjoy the bluebells photo bomb.

The sun started to set a little, and as it found its way through the trees, it layered a gentle shimmer of halo onto the already beautiful bluebells. I'd love to wait for the sun to set more, but it was time to find our way out of the woods and back to our car.

Getting back out was a little easier but we still had to walk across some farmlands again. This time, we managed to avoid the cows, but we might have walked through a private field. We only saw the sign at the exit. We did no harm, and the farmer who was ploughing his field on the other side didn't set his dogs on us 😅.
Here's the home stretch after our 12km walk. Thank you for a wonderful day Bluebells.

What a wonderfull sight those blue bells in the forrest , to bad we don't have those here as far as i know .
You don't have any in the Amsterdam even though you're pretty near? That's unfortunate, they are really a feast for the eyes
Beautiful! Thank you for all those pictures! They brought back the smell of spring and freshly plowed earth into my mind, at least that. In my part of Germany, I think it's canola flowering season now. That's one of the best. It smells heavenly!
Canola fields are also very pretty, we used to get some in UK but I don't seem to have much in recent years. I've never smelt them before. Now you mention it, I'm really intrigued...
We have a half marathon each year called "canola blossom run", badly translated. Participants run on dirt roads among the canola fields, and partially within the fields, getting all yellow and better smelling 😅
Beautiful shots...ill be posting something similar soon as I just got home after a quick trip to the UK! Those bluebells are gorgeous, my favourite flower.
Id forgotten how absolutely divine the UK looks in Springtime when the sun is out!
Hope youre well and nice to see you keeping active! I have a funny story for you later...
You're lucky you weren't back in February, it was was absolutely horrible, raining every day. Now it's much nicer. Hope you enjoyed your quick trip back, and all is well at home and your mum.
Wow, that ended up being a long hike for you. My wife and I have been looking at getting some good hiking boots so we can go off paved paths a bit more without having to worry about our ankles twisting. The flowers are beautiful!
I'd highly recommend getting some good quality boots, they have much better grip and last ages. I've had mine for 7 or 8 years, but haven't done that much walking in recent years. Really must pick it up again.
I just bought some waterproof hiking shoes, but I think boots will better for uneven ground.

Beautiful! Only yesterday, one of my community centre students (here in Japan) asked me about bluebells. I hadn't thought about them for a long time and his question brought back beautiful memories of bluebells in the woods of the Weald of Kent.

What a coincidence. Are there bluebells in a Japan or did you student come across them in UK before?
there are no bluebells growing in the wild in Japan as far as I know! I think my student saw something about them on tv or social media.
Seeing bluebells makes one feel happy to be !ALIVE 😊

The weather is so nice already!!! here we have a bad weather today hehehhe

The weather is starting to turn a lot nicer now, I can wear my T shirts soon!!
"Taking off your red jacket because of the cows made me laugh! 😂 It sounds like quite an adventure, but man, that 'sea of blue' is just breathtaking. Thanks for taking us along on your 12km journey! 🏃♂️💨"
I'm just quite uncomfortable around animals, everyone in my group were really chilled about
Forest photos with bluebells are some of my favorites among British nature and landscape photographers. I envy you such a huge population of these plants.
In my area, another flower of this color is popular in the spring - Crocus. And it's the same with them in the sense that a lot of people destroy these flowers inattentively taking photos just to show them on Instagram.
I don't think there are too many flowers in blue/purple colour, it's always nice to see them. And those people... I just don't understand them, surely one can take good photos at different angles
Some people simply lack awareness of certain actions and their consequences.
I personally love such challenges, when you have to think about every step so as not to damage a plant when taking pictures.
Lovely! There is nothing quite like the sight of a carpet of bluebells in the woods of England. The smell of the scent is amazing.
Have you seen (and smelt) a woodland covered in wild garlic? That is quite special. I am soon going to cycle to a woodland where the ground is a carpet of white garlic flowers. As soon as I get my bike back after servicing repairs! 😆 Photos and post to follow soon!
Last year I was on a walk and there was a part in the woods where there was a whiff of wild garlic, but not very strong. I haven't come across a big patch before, please do share after your visit!
I have just dug out a photo from May last year, here it is. Rowlands Wood on the Sussex Border Path.
Well, those bluebells do look lovely in the forest. I don’t know why it’s so easy to get lost in the woods, haha… and I know I would have laughed a lot with you and your red windbreaker jacket. Those cows aren’t like the ones here, they’re really hairy (parecen perros) 😂.
Perhaps he sent some hairy cows, but you were already tired and didn’t see them.
No tienes permitido reírte!!
Those cows aren't the breed we normally see, I'm not sure why they are there. As long as they stay away from me, I'm okay 😄
🤣 Lo siento, eso es imposible. Yo es que te imagino...

STOPI've discovered ONE wild little Bluebell randomly growing within my property line. I hope this will multiply over the next few years having them border the tree growing close to it. I have no ideal how it got here but I'm glad it is. A random natural thing perhaps from a neighbor who has a blue bunch bordering their fence line a few houses downhill from mine.

I got one in my garden as well, not sure where that came from because we live in a new build estate and my neighbours don't have any. The last time I checked there was just one flowered, and today I noticed there's a few more.

What a lovely adventure. The bluebells look magical and the long walk made the experience even more rewarding.
I always enjoy the bluebell walks every year, and the fact they don't last long makes them extra special
Beautiful photos! I love them! ❤️ !PIZZA
They're really mesmerising, aren't they
It’s simply beautiful – seeing it in real life must be even more incredible.

@livinguktaiwan, thanks for sharing the effort of walking 12km; the scenery definitely rewards any extra walking.
Ow you really had a good walk over there, the is really a stunning spring walk!
We have a bit of these blue bells here as well, but I only see some popping up here and there. Not in the abundance that this field has, it looks really cool though!
Loving spring at the moment!
