When I found out about the plan to go hiking in Buenos Aires during the long weekend, I didn't hesitate to join. I love discovering new places, and this was the perfect opportunity to do just that. Even though this little getaway was to the city of Balcarce, 385 km from my home, and involved traveling with a group of complete strangers, none of that stopped me from embracing the experience. And it turned out to be even more wonderful than I had imagined ❤️.

Cuando me enteré de la propuesta sobre hacer trekking en Buenos Aires durante el fin de semana largo, no dudé en unirme. Me encanta conocer lugares nuevos y esta era la oportunidad perfecta para hacerlo. Aunque la pequeña escapada era hasta la ciudad de Balcarce, a 385 km de casa e incluía viajar con un grupo de desconocidos, esto no me detuvo a ir a vivir la experiencia. Y todo fue más lindo de lo que pensaba ❤️.

For this trip, Guille, the group's organizer, arranged the participants into different vehicles so everyone could make the journey together. In my case, I traveled with three other people who picked me up at my house, and by just before noon we had already arrived in Balcarce. I had heard about this place before, but I had never visited it, so seeing it for the first time was a pleasant surprise. As for the group, well, almost everyone was over 45, so I definitely felt like the youngest one there.

Para este paseo, el guía del grupo Guille se encargó de organizar a los asistentes en distintos vehículos para que todos podamos ir. En mi caso, viajé con otras tres personas que me pasaron a buscar por mi casa y para antes del mediodía ya habíamos llegado a Balcarce. Yo había escuchado sobre este lugar, pero no lo conocía, así que verlo fue toda una sorpresa para mí. En cuanto a la gente del grupo, bueno, eran todos +45 así que yo me sentía bastante joven.

The plan was to spend two nights in some cabins with a swimming pool, from Saturday morning until Monday night, so we had plenty of time ahead of us. Once we arrived, we took some time to get to know each other, enjoy the pool for a while, and just before sunset, we set off on our first hike. The best part was that the cabins were located very close to one of the city's mountain ranges, making them the perfect starting point for a quick trek before nightfall.

El plan era pasar dos noches en unas cabañas con pileta, desde el sábado a la mañana hasta el lunes a la noche, así que teníamos bastante tiempo por delante. Cuando llegamos, nos tomamos un momento para conocernos, compartir un poco de pileta y para antes de la hora del atardecer, empezamos las actividades de caminata. Lo bueno era que las cabañas quedaban muy cerca de una de las sierras de la ciudad, ubicación perfecta para un trekking express antes del anochecer.

The mountain range we visited is called La Barrosa, and its most popular trail is the one that leads to the Mirador de la Cruz, where you can enjoy a panoramic view of the entire city. The elevations here aren't particularly high or challenging, which made it a great choice for our diverse group. For most of the people on this hiking trip, it was their very first time in the mountains, so we took things at a relaxed pace until we reached the top. If I had done the hike on my own, it would have taken me less than half an hour, but with the whole group and our slower pace, it took us more than an hour.

La sierra qué visitamos se llama La Barrosa, y en ella su sendero más concurrido es el que te lleva hasta el Mirador de la Cruz, desde donde puede verse toda la ciudad. En este lugar las elevaciones no son tan altas ni tan complicadas, y esto era conveniente para el grupo heterogéneo de gente que éramos. Para la mayoría de las personas del grupo de trekking de esa salida era su primera vez en la montaña, así que fuimos con calma hasta que logramos subir. Si hubiese ido sola, hacer ese recorrido me hubiese tomado menos de media hora, pero con toda la gente y su ritmo tardamos más de una.

Once we reached the top, we were rewarded with a great view of the city and the landscape on the opposite side as well. Balcarce is quite a large city, and it was beautiful to see how it stretches across the flat plains, surrounded by these scattered hills. On the other side, there is a large racetrack that also takes advantage of the vast flat terrain in this part of the province. Even though I had traveled through this area several times on my way to Mar del Plata, I had never had the chance to make a detour and visit Balcarce itself.

Una vez arriba, pudimos tener una buena vista de la ciudad y del otro lado también. La ciudad de Balcarce en bastante grande, y fue hermoso ver cómo está asentada en la planicie rodeada de estas pequeñas sierras esporádicas. En el otro frente, se ubica un gran autódromo que también sabe aprovechar el espacio plano de esta parte de la provincia. A pesar de haber ido varias veces para esa zona en camino a Mar del Plata, nunca había tenido la oportunidad de desviarme hasta Balcarce.

This hike was very easy for me, but I still enjoyed the experience of encouraging and supporting those who were just getting started with hiking. It was December, and I hadn't been on a trek since April, so I really needed some time in nature to reconnect with something I truly enjoy. Besides, discovering a new place is always a great plan in my book, and considering that this adventure was shared with a group of complete strangers, I'd say everything turned out even better than I could have hoped ❤️.

Hacer este trekking fue demasiado sencillo para mí, pero igualmente disfruté la experiencia de dar apoyo moral a aquellas personas que recién empiezan en esta actividad. Era diciembre y yo no hacía trekking desde abril, así que necesitaba un poco de naturaleza para reconectar con lo que me gusta hacer. Además, conocer un lugar nuevo siempre es un buen plan para mí y en el contexto de aventura con desconocidos, diría que todo salió más que bien ❤️.
