Uruguay - Piriápolis Beach viewpoint: a great panoramic view from the top of Cerro San Antonio. / Mirador de la playa de Piriápolis: una gran vista panorámica desde lo alto en el Cerro San Antonio. 😃❤️

One of the things I love about places is when they have a panoramic viewpoint. These high points always offer us great views and allow us to get a full picture of what we are visiting. When we arrived at Piriápolis Beach in Uruguay, I was very excited to see some hills decorating the horizon. I was even more excited when I found out that we could climb up to them: I already knew the view from up there wouldn’t disappoint 😁.

Una de las cosas que me encantan de los lugares es cuando cuentan con un mirador panorámico. Estos puntos altos siempre nos regalan grandes vistas y nos permiten dar un pantallazo total de lo que estamos visitando. Cuando llegamos a la playa de Piriápolis en Uruguay, me emocioné mucho al ver algunos cerros adornando el horizonte. Y más me emocioné cuando me enteré que se podía subir hasta ellos: ya sabía que la postal de ahí no decepcionaría 😁.

It was our second day of the Carnival weekend trip, and we had finally reached our main destination in Piriápolis. My cousin, my aunt, and I had planned this getaway mainly to fulfill my wish of visiting this beach, since they already knew it. After a few stops in Gualeguaychú, Entre Ríos, Argentina, and at Las Cañas Beach Resort, already in Uruguay, the second day started very early so we could reach the beach in the afternoon. Since it was February and the middle of summer, we still had a few hours of daylight ahead of us to take another little trip.

Era nuestro segundo día de viaje en el fin de semana de los carnavales y finalmente habíamos llegado a nuestro destino principal en Piriápolis. Mi primo, mi tía y yo habíamos planeado esta escapada más que nada para satisfacer mi deseo de conocer esta playa, ya que ellos ya la conocían. Después de unas paradas en Gualeguaychú, Entre Ríos, Argentina, y en Balneario Las Cañas, ya en Uruguay, el segundo día empezó muy temprano para llegar a la playa en horas de la tarde. Como era febrero y pleno verano, todavía teníamos un poco de horas de luz por delante como para hacer un paseo más.

Since we had my cousin’s pickup truck, it was very convenient to quickly get from one place to another. Since we had some time, he wanted to show me the famous Cerro San Antonio, which is a must-see if you are visiting Piriápolis. To get to the top, you have to drive along some steep, winding roads: walking up would have been fun too, but luckily for me, we had a vehicle on this trip, and it took us less than 20 minutes to get there from the beach.

Como estábamos con la camioneta de mi primo, era muy cómodo llegar rápidamente de un lado al otro. Como había tiempo, él quería mostrarme el famoso Cerro San Antonio, el cual es una parada obligatoria si estás de paseo por Piriápolis. Para subir hasta ahí, hay que hacer algunas curvas empinadas hasta la cima: hacerlo caminando también hubiese sido divertido, pero para mí buena fortuna, en este paseo teníamos vehículo y tardamos menos de 20 minutos desde la playa hasta ahí.

Once we reached the top, just as I had expected, the views did not disappoint. From the viewpoint, we could see the entire stretch of the beach, the Río de la Plata basin, and, most likely, the beginning of the Atlantic Ocean. At the top of the hill, there was a small restaurant, a photo frame for taking pictures, and a sort of religious altar. It was clearly a very touristy spot because it was packed with cars and people, but it was understandable, because you definitely can’t leave Piriápolis without taking in that view.

Una vez arriba y tal cual como esperaba, las vistas no decepcionaron. Desde el mirador se podía ver toda la extensión de la playa, la cuenca del Río de La Plata y seguramente, el comienzo del Océano Atlántico. En la cima de este cerro se podía encontrar un pequeño restaurante, un cuadro para sacarse fotos y una especie de altar religioso. Evidentemente es un lugar muy turístico porque estaba súper lleno de autos y gente, pero se justificaba porque definitivamente no podés irte de Piriápolis sin tener esa vista.

Visiting this place was one of the great things we did during our time in our neighboring country. I had been wanting to visit it for a long time, and our trip turned out to be more than perfect. Even though the weather hadn’t been great along the way, luckily for us, everything improved in the afternoon. I already knew that Uruguay had many beautiful places to visit, and I was happy to be able to see some of them. Climbing Cerro San Antonio is an experience that is definitely worth it and one you shouldn’t miss if you’re passing through the area: one of the most beautiful views in Piriápolis ❤️.

Visitar este lugar fue una de las cosas geniales que hicimos en nuestro paso por el país vecino. Hace tiempo que tenía ganas de ir a conocer ese lugar, y nuestro paseo fue más que perfecto. A pesar de que el buen clima no nos había acompañado durante el camino, para nuestra suerte, todo mejoró en horas de la tarde. Ya sabía que Uruguay tiene varios lugares lindos para visitar, y me alegró poder visitar algunos de ellos. Subir al Cerro San Antonio es una experiencia que vale la pena y que no podés perderte si estás de paso por ahí: una de las vistas más lindas de Piriápolis ❤️.
