Brazil - Trekking along a quiet trail inside Iguaçu National Park: São João Circuit. / Trekking en un sendero poco concurrido del Parque Nacional do Iguaçu: Circuito São João.😃❤️

Exploring Iguaçu National Park in Brazil is always a great experience, as it allows you to enjoy panoramic views of the magnificent Iguazu Falls. The park is nestled in the middle of the jungle, and its surroundings are beautiful, although most people tend to stick to the main tourist walkways. Visiting the park just to see the waterfalls can take about half a day, but if you want to extend your visit and make the most of your admission ticket, there are a few other options worth considering 😃.

Recorrer el Parque Nacional do Iguaçu en Brasil siemore es una gran experiencia que te permite tener una vista panorámica de las grandes Cataratas del Iguazú. Este parque está metido en medio de la selva y sus alrededores son hermosos, aunque la mayoría de la gente siempre se concentra en las pasarelas turísticas. Visitar el Parque para solo ver las cataratas es algo que puede tomarte medio día, pero si queres extender tu visita y hacer valer la entrada, hay algunas opciones más a tener en cuenta 😃.

One of the options we chose was doing some hiking along the São João Circuit. From what we had seen on the map, this trail was only 2 km long through the jungle and allowed us to see a few other waterfalls. Since the park entrance is far from the main waterfalls’ walkways, there is an internal bus that takes you there, with a few stops along the way where you can get off and do other activities. We had the second half of the day free after visiting the walkways, so we decided to do this circuit, which took us a little over an hour, including all the stops we made along the way.

Una de las que tomamos nosotros fue hacer un poco de senderismo en el Circuito São João: por lo que habíamos visto en el mapa, este recorrido solo era de 2 km en la selva y permitía ver algunos otros saltos de agua. Como la entrada del parque está lejos de las pasarelas de las cataratas, existe un bus interno que te acerca hasta ellas, y el mismo tiene algunas paradas intermedias para hacer otras cosas. Dentro de la segunda mitad del día que nos quedaba libre después de ir a las pasarelas, hicimos este circuito que nos tomó un poco más de una hora entre todo lo que fuimos parando.

Since most people head to the walkways, we didn’t come across anyone else on the trail during our visit. The trail was very beautiful and well maintained and signposted. In this area, we could see some ruins of what used to be the park’s first buildings, and after crossing a few bridges, we could see other little waterfalls and bodies of water. Luckily, we didn’t come across any insects or creepy-crawlies, which was what scared me the most about quiet places like this.

Como la mayoría de la gente va a las pasarelas, para el momento de nuestra visita no nos cruzamos con nadie en el camino. El sendero era muy lindo y estaba bien mantenido y señalizado. En esta zona se podían ver algunas ruinas de lo que fueron las primeras edificaciones del parque, y cruzando algunos puentes, podías ver otras cascaditas y cuerpos de agua. Por suerte no nos cruzamos con ningún insecto o alimaña, que eso es lo que más miedo me daba de los lugares silenciosos como ese.

Something that surprised us to find in the middle of this trail was a kind of restaurant. It was a very nice establishment, with tables and chairs outside as well as a large dining hall. This place wasn’t heavily promoted in the brochures, but there were still a few people there. Its location was right in front of a large waterfall, so the view was incredible. Since we already had our lunch with us, we stopped for a while to eat it in front of the waterfall and then continued on our way.

Algo que nos sorprendió encontrar en medio de este sendero fue una especie de restaurante. Se trataba de un establecimiento muy lindo, como mesas y sillas afuera y también un gran salón. Este lugar no estaba muy promocionado en los folletos, pero igual había algo de gente en él. La ubicación que eligieron para el mismo era justo enfrente de una gran cascada, así que la vista era alucinante. Como ya teníamos nuestro almuerzo, paramos un rato a comerlo frente a la cascada y seguimos adelante.

One memorable thing about that day was the suffocating heat. If you’ve never been to the jungle, let me describe what it’s like: hot, humid, and heavy. You might think these are the least suitable conditions for going on a hike, but the beauty of the place made it worth it, and the trees helped cool things down a little. As if spending the morning walking along the main walkways and the afternoon hiking through the jungle wasn’t enough, the end of this trail had a very steep staircase to get out of it. I think climbing those stairs was the hardest part of the entire hike.

Un punto memorable de ese día era el calor sofocante que hacía. Si nunca han estado en la selva, déjenme describirles como es: caluroso, húmedo y pesado. Dirías que estas son las condiciones menos adecuadas para hacer una caminata, pero la belleza del lugar valía la pena y los árboles funcionaban refrigerando un poco el ambiente. Como si una mañana recorriendo las pasarelas y una tarde caminando en la selva hubiesen sido poco, el final de este sendero tenía una escalera altísima para salir de él. Creo que subir esa escalera fue lo más duro de todo el recorrido.

This day of visiting the waterfalls and hiking with my dad was a great way to make the most of the park. Our decision to spend an entire week in the area allowed us to explore at a relaxed pace, knowing that we had plenty of time to discover more things. I loved doing the São João Circuit because I hadn’t experienced it during either of my two previous visits. When I say that even the same trip can feel different, I mean it—it’s just a matter of knowing where to look for something new to do 😃.

Este día de Cataratas y senderismo con mi papá fue una gran opción para aprovechar al máximo el parque. Nuestra elección de ir una semana entera a la zona de cataratas nos permitió pasear de forma tranquila, sabiendo que teníamos bastante tiempo como para conocer más cosas. Hacer el circuito de São João me encantó, porque no lo había conocido en ninguna de mis dos visitas anteriores. Cuando digo que aún el mismo viaje puede ser diferente es cierto, solo hay que saber buscar qué más se puede hacer 😃.
