One might think that taking a look at Iguazu Falls for the third time could feel repetitive, but in my case, each visit was special for a different reason. In general, I don’t usually go back to places I’ve already visited, but Iguazu Falls is the exception for me. The first time I went, I was excited to see them for myself; the second time, I went to celebrate my 28th birthday, and this third time, I went back because I wanted my dad to see them too. This was yet another one of our trips as a pair, but without a doubt, it featured landscapes that were completely different from anything we had seen before 😃.

Uno podría llegar a pensar que echar un vistazo a las Cataratas del Iguazú por tercera vez podría sentirse repetitivo, pero en mi caso, cada vez fue especial por un motivo diferente. En líneas generales, no suelo volver a ir a un lugar que ya fui, pero las Cataratas rompen esa regla para mí. La primera vez que fui, tenía la ilusión de conocerlas yo personalmente; la segunda vez, fui para festejar mi cumpleaños #28 y esta tercera vez, volví a ir porque quería que mi papá también las conociera. Este fue uno más de nuestros viajes de a dos, pero sin dudas tuvo paisajes totalmente diferentes a cualquiera que hubiéramos visto antes 😃.

Iguazu Falls are located in northeastern Argentina, shared between my country and Brazil. To get there, one option is to fly to the city of Puerto Iguazú and visit the falls from there. But there’s also the option of staying in the city closest to them on the Brazilian side, Foz do Iguaçu, and that’s what my dad and I did. Since the falls are shared between the two countries, each one has its own national park where you can go and admire them, and after having visited three times, my recommendation is to visit both because each one has its own unique charm.

Las Cataratas del Iguazú se ubican en el noreste de Argentina, compartidas entre mi país y Brasil. Para llegar hasta ellas, una de las opciones es volar hasta la ciudad de Puerto Iguazú y desde ahí, visitarlas. Pero también está la opción de hospedarse en la ciudad más cercana a ellas pero del lado brasilero, en Foz de Iguazú, y eso fue lo que hicimos mi papá y yo. Como las Cataratas están compartidas entre ambos países, cada una tiene su parque para ir a apreciarlas, y mi recomendación después de haber ido tres veces, es visitar ambos porque cada uno tiene su encanto.

The entrance to the Iguaçu National Park cost us around $22, and to get there, we only had to take a local bus from downtown Foz. Since the waterfalls are quite far from the park entrance, once there, it’s necessary to take another internal bus that takes you closer to the walkways and other trails within the park, which can be explored on foot or by bicycle. As for the layout of the walkways, they are arranged like a “balcony” overlooking the massive waterfalls, so from this park, the views are mostly panoramic, seen from a distance.

La entrada al Parque Nacional do Iguaçu nos costó unos $22, y para llegar hasta él solo tuvimos que tomar un bus local desde el centro de Foz. Como las cataratas están lejos de la entrada del parque, una vez ahí, es necesario abordar otro bus interno que te acerca a las pasarelas y a otros senderos internos dentro del parque, los cuales se pueden hacer caminando o en bicicleta. En cuando a la distribución espacial de las pasarelas, estas se ubican en forma de "balcón" enfrente de los grandes saltos de agua, por lo que desde este parque, las vistas son más que nada, panorámicas desde lejos.

In addition to the beauty of the waterfalls themselves, another attraction at the falls is the coatis. These animals are fascinating because you don’t get to see one every day, but you still have to be very careful because they are used to stealing food and belongings from visitors. As cute as they are, they can also be somewhat aggressive, so it’s better to watch them from a distance. Along the kilometer and a half of walkways on this side of the park, we often came across coatis, and luckily, none of them hurt us.

Además de lo hermoso que tienen las caídas de agua, otro atractivo en las cataratas son los coaties. Estos animales resultan llamativos porque no todos los días ves uno, pero sin embargo, hay que tener mucho cuidado porque están acostumbrados a robar comida y cosas a la gente. Así como son lindos, también pueden ser algo violentos, así que es mejor verlos desde lejos. A lo largo del kilómetros y medio de pasarelas que tiene el Parque de este lado, muchas veces nos cruzamos con coaties y por suerte, ninguno nos hizo daño.

Unlike my last visit for my 28th birthday, when it was raining and the water from the falls was brown, this time we had a beautiful day, with sunshine and rainbows everywhere. The water flow was lower than it had been that time, but it was white and foamy, contrasting beautifully with the green of the jungle. Just as I expected in this part of the map, the weather was hot, humid, and muggy, so we made sure to have plenty of water and sunscreen with us. I was already eager to reach the very end of the walkway, where we would get as close to the water as possible and, hopefully, cool off a little.

A diferencia de mi última visita para mi cumpleaños #28, en donde llovía y el agua de las cataratas era marrón, esta vez nos tocó un día precioso, con sol y arcoíris por todos lados. El caudal de agua de los saltos era menor que esa vez, pero era blanca y espumosa, contrastante con el verde de la selva. Tal cuál esperaba en esta zona del mapa, el clima era caluroso, húmedo y pesado, por lo que no nos pudo faltar el agua y protector solar. Yo ya estaba ansiosa de llegar al extremo final de la pasarela, en donde nos acercaríamos lo máximo posible al agua y con suerte, nos refrescaríamos un poco.

Without a doubt, the best part of the whole walk is the final stretch, where you get the best view of just how impressive the waterfalls are. Most of the walkway follows a single direction, but toward the end, it splits and you can go a little farther out over the river. From there, you can see the magnificent Devil’s Throat in the distance, which was waiting for us when we visited the Argentine side. At the end of the walkway, there are also elevators that take you to two different levels where you can get a closer look at the biggest waterfall in this section. This whole part is the highlight of the walk, the kind of place that makes you think, “Where does all that water come from?” 😂.

Sin dudas, la mejor parte de todo este recorrido es la última, en donde podes tener la mejor vista de todo lo imponente de las cataratas. La mayoría de la pasarela es en una dirección, pero al final, se bifurca y podes ir un poco más hacia dentro del río. Desde ahí, se puede ver a lo lejos la grandiosa Garganta del Diablo, la cual nos esperaba en nuestra visita del lado argentino. En el final de la pasarela también se encuentran los elevadores, que te llevan a dos niveles para ver la caída de agua más grande disponible acá. Toda esta parte es la mejor del recorrido, esa que te hace pensar "¿de dónde sale tanta agua?" 😂.

From the very first moment we arrived at the park and my dad got to see the waterfalls, he thanked me for bringing him there. On our previous trips, we had seen beaches, mountains, and snow, so I didn’t want him to miss out on this landscape of waterfalls and jungle. Visiting Iguaçu National Park first allows you to admire the vastness of the waterfalls from a distance. As for the park on the Argentine side, the walkways extend right in front of the falls, on the other side of the river. Each one offers a different experience and perspective, so visiting both parks is practically a must ❤️.

Desde el primer momento en que llegamos al Parque y mi papá pudo ver las cataratas, me agradeció por haberlo llevado hasta ese lugar. En nuestros viajes previos habíamos visto playa, montañas y nieve, así que no quería que se pierda de este paisaje de cataratas y selva. Visitar primero el Parque Nacional do Iguaçu te permite tener una vista desde lejos de toda la inmensidad de esta caída de agua. En cuanto al parque del lado argentino, las pasarelas se extienden justo enfrente, del otro lado del río: cada uno ofrece una experiencia desde puntos de vista diferentes, por lo que es casi obligatorio visitar ambos parques ❤️.
