Argentina - Taking the City Tour Bus to explore Termas on wheels: a great experience in Santiago del Estero. / Tomando el Bus del City Tour para conocer Termas sobre ruedas: una gran experiencia en Santiago del Estero.😃❤️

Taking a trip with a short itinerary in terms of days “forced” me to do as many tourist activities as possible in the least amount of time. That’s why, on my first day in Termas de Río Hondo, Santiago del Estero, I took the opportunity to walk around a bit of the city center, grateful that the rainy weather from the morning had cleared up. During my express tour, I came across a small travel agency offering a city tour on those famous double-decker buses, and although I don’t usually do such touristy things, I loved the idea of a motorized ride. The next day, early in the morning, I was one of the first in line to get a ticket, and I must say that choosing this excursion was a great decision ❤️.

Hacer un viaje con un itinerario corto en días me "obligó" a tener que hacer la mayor cantidad de cosas turísticas en el menor tiempo posible. Por eso fue que en mi primer día en Termas de Río Hondo, Santiago del Estero aproveché para ir a recorrer un poco el centro de la ciudad, agradeciendo que el clima lluvioso de la mañana había cesado. Durante mi recorrido express me crucé con una pequeña agencia de viajes que ofrecía realizar un city tour en esos famosos colectivos de dos pisos, y aunque no suelo hacer cosas tan turísticas como estas, me encantó la idea de un paseo motorizado. Al día siguiente, temprano en la mañana, fui una de las primeras en hacer la fila para conseguir un pasaje, y debo decir que elegir este paseo fue una gran elección ❤️.

The tour offered a route of about two hours, passing through the most important points of the city. All of this for only 10,000 ARS, less than $8. I had never ridden one of these double-decker buses before, and getting to experience it for an affordable price that fit my budget was great. Despite it being May, with autumn already well underway, the heat that day was almost suffocating. This province is very hot almost all year round, and during my stay this was no exception. To take advantage of the “cool” breeze during the ride, I chose a seat on the upper deck, from where I was able to enjoy great views throughout the entire journey. Departing from the city center, the city tour bus took us around the famous places I had already explored on foot, such as the main square, the casino, the city hall, the church, and the bridge. It only took the bus a few minutes to show me everything I had seen over the entire previous afternoon.

El paseo ofrecía un recorrido de unas 2 horas, pasando por los puntos más importantes de la ciudad. Todo esto por solo 10.000ARS, menos de $8. Yo nunca me había subido a estos colectivos de dos pisos, y conseguir vivir la experiencia por un módico precio ajustado a mi bolsillo fue genial. A pesar de ser mayo, con el otoño bastante entrado, el calor de ese día era casi sofocante. Esta provincia es muy calurosa casi todo el año, y durante mi estadía esto no fue la excepción. Para aprovechar el viento "fresco" del paseo, elegí mi asiento en el piso de arriba, desde donde pude obtener unas buenas vistas durante todo el recorrido. Partiendo desde el centro de la ciudad, el bus del city tour nos llevó a recorrer los lugares famosos que yo ya había recorrido a pie, como la plaza principal, el casino, la municipalidad, la iglesia y el puente. Al bus solo le tomó unos minutos mostrarme todo lo que yo había visto durante toda la tarde anterior.

Crossing the Río Dulce bridge, we headed toward the outskirts of the city. This area was very beautiful, with a wide riverside promenade along the river and lots of green vegetation, something I really enjoy on my walks. The city tour bus included a guide who explained everything we were seeing along the way. We made a short stop at one of the city’s golf clubs and also passed by the entrance to the Tara Inti nature reserve. It was very comfortable to see all these places from the comfort of a seat.

Cruzando el puente del Río Dulce, nos dirigimos hacia las afueras de la ciudad. Esta zona era muy linda, con una gran costanera al costado del río, y mucha vegetación verde, algo que disfruto en mis paseos. El bus del city tour incluía un guía que nos iba explicando todo lo que íbamos viendo. Hicimos una pequeña parada en un Club de Golf de la ciudad y también pasamos por la entrada de la reserva natural Tara Inti. Fue muy cómodo ver todos estos lugares desde la comodidad de un asiento.

Continuing further along the tour, the city tour bus took us past the city’s dam until we reached the famous Termas de Río Hondo Racetrack. This place is very well known in my country, Argentina, as it hosts international sporting events. The venue has its own hotel, a vintage car museum, and even a café. We made a stop at this point, where we got off the bus and were able to walk around and explore the museum a bit.

Continuando más adelante con el paseo, el bus del city tour nos dio una pasada por el dique de la ciudad hasta llegar al famoso Autódromo de Termas de Río Hondo. Este lugar es uno muy famoso dentro de mi país Argentina, ya que en él se llevan competencias deportivas internacionales. El lugar cuenta con hotel propio, museo de autos antiguos y hasta una cafetería. Hicimos una parada en este punto, en donde nos bajamos del bus y pudimos recorrer un poco el museo.

The racetrack museum was very elegant and well-lit. You had the option to take a break in the café for a coffee, or to explore the museum more closely by paying a ticket of about $2. Some of my fellow city bus passengers paid for it and were able to see the cars up close, but in my case, I decided to view them from the balcony of the café. After all, the view from there was great, and you could see the full scope of the entire collection of those incredible cars.

El museo del autódromo era muy elegante e iluminado. Tenias la opción de parar un momento en la cafetería por un café, o recorrer el museo más de cerca pagando un ticket de unos $2. Algunos de mis compañeros de city bus lo pagaron y pudieron ver los autos más de cerca, pero en mi caso, decidí mirarlo desde el balcón de la confitería. Después de todo, tenía una gran vista desde ahí y se podía ver la dimensión de toda la colección de esos autos increíbles.

Of course, at the time of our visit there was no sporting event taking place, but I still decided to ask if I could go up to the grandstands of the racetrack. After receiving a positive response, I did so and found myself in a beautiful place. The entire complex looked new, in excellent condition, and there weren’t many people visiting this area, which allowed me to enjoy a peaceful moment.

Por supuesto que al momento de nuestra visita no había ningún evento deportivo llevándose a cabo, pero igual me animé a preguntar si podía acercarme a las gradas del autódromo. Tras la respuesta positiva lo hice y me encontré con un lugar hermoso. Todo este complejo se veía nuevo, en excelentes condiciones y no había mucha gente visitando esta parte, por lo que pude tener un momento tranquilo.

On our way back from the tour, we passed by the city’s dam once again, from where we could notice how tall the wall is that separates the reservoir from the city. It also became clear how flat this city is compared to other places in Argentina. I already knew that I wouldn’t be doing much trekking in the province of Santiago del Estero, but at least I enjoyed getting some great snapshots of the plains we visited.

Ya volviendo de nuestro paseo, volvimos a pasar por el dique de la ciudad, desde donde pudimos notar lo alto que es el paredón que separa el embalse de la ciudad. Además, se evidenció lo plana que es esta ciudad a comparación de otros lugares de Argentina. Ya sabía que en la provincia de Santiago del Estero no haría mucho trekking, pero al menos me gustó tener unas buenas postales de las planicies que visitamos.

Paying for the tourist bus experience was a great investment of both time and money, since in just two hours I was able to visit some of the most important places in the area. One of the good things about visiting a province without researching too much beforehand is that you can be pleasantly surprised in the moment, which makes the experience even more special. My visit to the city of Termas de Río Hondo, in the context of visiting my 20th province in Argentina, was very special to me, as I was finally able to make this trip happen after a long time. I’m taking away more than beautiful memories from this entire place 😍.

Haber pagado por la experiencia del bus turístico fue una gran inversión en tiempo y dinero, ya que en solo dos horas pude visitar un poco de los lugares más importantes de la zona. Lo bueno que tiene visitar una provincia sin investigar tanto sobre ella es que podes sorprenderte en el momento, lo que vuelve el paseo aún más especial. Mi paso por la ciudad de Termas de Río Hondo en el contexto de visitar mi provincia #20 en Argentina fue muy especial para mí, ya que pude materializar esta visita después de un largo tiempo. Me llevo unos recuerdos más que hermosos de todo este lugar 😍.
