Argentina - Second part of our adventure in the heights of Saavedra: reaching the peaks of Locomotora and Pirámide. / Segunda parte de nuestra aventura en la altura de Saavedra: alcanzando los picos de Locomotora y Pirámide. 😃❤️

Our adventure hiking through the heights of the Cura Malal Mountain Range had started very early, but it had rewarded us with plenty of beautiful landscapes. This area of Saavedra, in the interior of Buenos Aires Province, is characterized by its rolling hills interspersed with extensive valleys, making its landscapes unmistakable. Although the weather had threatened us with rain and thick clouds, things looked different during the second half of our outing. So much so that by the time we reached the two peaks we still had to see, the sun was shining in all its glory 😃.

Nuestra aventura caminando por las alturas del Cordón Cura Malal había empezado muy temprano pero nos había regalado un montón de paisajes hermosos. Esta zona de Saavedra, en el interior de Buenos Aires, se caracteriza por tener algunas elevaciones alternadas con extensos valles, que vuelven a los lugares inconfundibles. A pesar de que el clima había amenazado con lluvia y nubes densas, para la segunda mitad de nuestro paseo, el panorama era otro. Tanto así que cuando llegamos a los dos picos que nos faltaban ver, el sol brillaba en todo su esplendor 😃.

During the first half of our hike, we had the opportunity to visit the Huellas de Amistad Refuge and the Confluencia, Pura Vida, and Ballena peaks. The Cura Malal mountain range is like a small mountain chain, so if you hike there, you'll come across a series of ascents and descents that lead you to different peaks. The terrain is made up of rocks and grass, so although it isn't particularly difficult, you need to pay some attention to where you step. At times, we even had to use our hands to help ourselves keep moving forward.

En la primera mitad de nuestro recorrido, habíamos tenido la oportunidad de visitar el Refugio Huellas de Amistad, y los picos Confluencia, Pura Vida y Ballena. El cordón de Cura Malal es como una pequeña sierra, por lo que si caminas por ahí, te encontrarás con una serie de subidas y bajadas que te llevan a diferentes picos. Este terreno es de piedras y pastos, por lo que, a pesar de no tener una dificultad alta, requiere prestar un poco de atención para pisar bien. Incluso por momentos, tuvimos que ayudarnos con las manos para poder seguir avanzando.

The next peak we saw was called Locomotora. Each of the small summits we visited was marked with a stone tower and a metal sign, which made them very photogenic. By then, the bad weather had already passed, and the sun was shining right above us. We took advantage of this short stop to sit down for a while, hydrate, and have something to eat. The good thing was that there were approximately 2 kilometers between each peak, making it a relaxed hike compared to others I've done.

El siguiente pico que vimos fue el llamado Locomotora. Cada una de las pequeñas cimas que vimos estaba identificada con una torre de piedras y un cartel metálico, lo que los volvía muy fotogénicos. Para entonces, el mal clima ya se había ido y teníamos el sol encima. Aprovechamos esta pequeña parada para sentarnos un poco a hidratarnos y comer algo. Lo bueno era que entre pico y pico habían unos 2 kilómetros aproximadamente: fue un paseo tranquilo en comparación a otros que he hecho.

The fifth and last peak we visited during this trek was called Pirámide. At its base, there was what had once served as a refuge. It was a glamping-style dome, but by the time of our visit, all that remained were the remains of some metal frames and tarps. Reaching this point was the highlight of our hike, although we still had to make our way back “home.” From there, we enjoyed a good view of the valley, the cultivated fields, and the other mountain ranges in the area. It was a great achievement to have conquered most of this small mountain range.

El quinto y último pico que vimos durante esta travesía fue el llamado Pirámide. Este, tenía a sus pies, lo que en algún momento funcionó como un refugio. Se trataba de un domo estilo glamping, pero que en el momento de nuestra visita, no era más que los restos de unos fierros y lonas. Llegar hasta ese punto fue el culmine del paseo, aunque todavía nos restaba volver a "casa". Desde ahí pudimos obtener una buena vista del valle, de los campos sembrados y de los demás cordones montañosos del área. Fue una buena conquista de la mayor parte de esta pequeña cordillera.

On all the trips I've taken with this trekking group, I've always been concerned about going on hikes that are too easy, since people of all ages and different fitness levels take part. However, I loved this hike through the Cura Malal Mountain Range because it took us the whole day, during which we walked almost 20 km, with plenty of ascents and descents. We set off early in the morning and arrived back almost at sunset, just in time to take a shower and then have dinner together. I love these kinds of social events, where I can also do something I enjoy, which is exploring the mountains, at least during long weekends. I'm glad I found these people to share my adventurous spirit with, and luckily, there are plenty of plans ahead ❤️.

En todos los viajes que he hecho con este grupo de trekking, siempre me preocupó hacer caminatas demasiado sencillas, dado que va gente de todas las edades y de distintas condiciones físicas. Sin embargo, este paseo por el Cordón Cura Malal me encantó porque nos llevó todo el día, en el que caminamos casi 20 km entre subidas y bajadas. Salimos a la mañana temprano y llegamos casi al atardecer, justo para darnos una ducha y luego cenar juntos. Me encantan este tipo de eventos sociales en donde además, puedo hacer un poco de lo que me gusta que es visitar las montañas, al menos durante los findes de semana largos. Me alegró haber encontrado a esta gente con la cual compartir el espíritu aventurero, y por suerte, hay muchos planes por delante ❤️.
