Argentina - Getting to know the San José hot springs with friends: a getaway within the getaway. / Conociendo las Termas de San José con amigas: un paseo dentro del paseo. 😃❤️

When it comes to making the most of a trip, I’d say our weekend getaway with friends turned out even better than we had expected. Even though we only had three days off work to enjoy our stay in the province of Entre Ríos, I felt that we made the most of every moment we spent there. Our main plan was to visit the Colón Hot Springs, and we did so on a beautiful sunny day. But we still had one full day left before having to catch our bus home that night, and of course, we weren’t going to miss the opportunity to do something else 😃.

Si se trata de rendimientos de viaje, diría que nuestra escapada de fin de semana con amigas rindió mucho más de lo que esperábamos. A pesar de que solo teníamos tres días libres de trabajo para disfrutar de nuestra estancia en la provincia de Entre Ríos, sentí que aprovechamos al máximo todo nuestro tiempo ahí. Nuestra idea principal era ir a visitar las Termas de Colón, y lo hicimos en un hermoso día soleado. Pero todavía nos quedaba un día por delante justo antes de tener que tomar el bus por la noche y regresar a casa, y por supuesto no íbamos a perdernos la oportunidad de hacer algo más 😃.

After doing a bit of research around the city of Colón, we discovered that the neighboring city of San José also had a thermal park similar to the one we had already visited. This entire region sits on a large thermal water reservoir, and the locals have made the most of it by developing parks and hotels that offer these services. In particular, the San José thermal park was a little less well-known than the one in Colón, but it was just as enjoyable for what we were looking for.

Investigando un poco los alrededores de la ciudad de Colón, encontramos que la ciudad vecina San José también tenía un parque termal similar al que ya habíamos visitado. Toda esta región se encuentra sobre una gran cuenca de agua termal, por lo que los lugareños han sabido aprovechar esto para la construcción de parques y hoteles con estos servicios. En particular, el parque termal de San José era un poco menos conocido que el de Colón, pero igual de disfrutable para nuestros propósitos.

Since we had to board our bus home shortly after midnight that day, we got up very early and headed off to visit the other thermal park. To get there, the four of us shared a taxi and ended up paying less than $15 in total. Once at the park, admission cost us around $10, a price similar to that of the Colón Hot Springs, although this park had fewer pools. Even so, it was still beautiful and enjoyable, despite the fact that the weather that day was far from ideal.

Como ese día teníamos que abordar nuestro bus de regreso a casa pasada la medianoche, nos levantamos muy temprano y nos fuimos a visitar el otro parque termal. Para llegar hasta él tomamos un taxi entre las 4 que éramos y terminamos pagando menos de $15 por él. En el parque, la entrada nos costó unos $10, un precio similar al de las termas de Colón, aunque este parque tenía menos piletas. Sin embargo, no dejaba de ser hermoso y disfrutable, a pesar de que el clima ese día no era el mejor de todos.

With rain clouds threatening overhead, my friends and I decided to make the most of the day anyway. We were no longer enjoying the summer-like weather we had experienced at the Colón Hot Springs, but the temperature was still pleasant enough to get into the pools, especially those with water above 25°C. What I liked about this park was that it seemed to be a bit less well-known than the other one, so there weren’t as many people around. I suppose that may have been the reason—or perhaps the possibility of rain had something to do with it as well.

Con unas nubes amenazantes de lluvia sobre nosotras, mis amigas y yo decidimos aprovechar el día igual. Ya no estábamos teniendo un día veraniego como en las Termas de Colón, pero todavía la temperatura era decente como para meterse a las piletas, al menos a las de aguas de más de 25°C. Lo que me gustó de este parque era que se notaba que era un poco menos conocido que el otro, por lo que no había tanta gente dando vueltas. Supongo que ese será el motivo, o quizás lo habrá sido la lluvia latente.

Fortunately, the rain only started to fall when it was almost time for us to leave. During the hours we spent there, my friends and I had the chance to try every pool, including the hottest one, which reached 42°C. I love hot water, so spending quite a while in that pool was no problem for me. However, staying in water at that temperature for too long is not recommended for health reasons. Without a doubt, our favorite pool was the outdoor one at 30°C, which was perfect for swimming on a mild day like that.

Por suerte, para la hora que nos teníamos que ir, las gotas recién habían empezado a caer. En las horas que estuvimos, mis amigas y yo tuvimos la posibilidad de probar todas las piletas, incluso la de agua más caliente a 42°C. A mí me encanta el agua caliente y estar un buen rato en esa pileta no fue problema para mí. Sin embargo, no es recomendable estar tanto tiempo en agua a esa temperatura por una cuestión de salud. Sin dudas, nuestra pileta preferida fue la del aire libre 30°C: ideal para nadar en un clima templado como ese.

As for the city of San José itself, I would say we didn’t really get to know it at all. The taxi took us directly to the park and then back again, but I imagine it is another quiet town much like Colón. This region of Argentina may not have mountains, but its tourism revolves around thermal parks like these. Visiting them with my friends turned out to be a fantastic weekend plan, and we were able to do much more than we had originally expected. It was a beautiful trip from beginning to end ❤️.

Respecto a la ciudad de San José, diría que no la conocimos para nada. El taxi nos llevó y nos devolvió de la puerta del parque, pero supongo que se debe tratar de otra ciudad tranquila como Colón. En esta zona de Argentina no hay montañas, pero el turismo se basa en los parque termales como estos. Visitarlos con mis amigas fue un gran plan de fin de semana, en el que pudimos hacer mucho más de lo que esperábamos. Fue un paseo hermoso de principio a fin ❤️.
