The good thing about the best time for a walk being in the late afternoon was that it allowed you to enjoy beautiful sunsets. During my time in the city of Formosa, I learned that from this part of my country you can witness truly incredible sunsets. But of course, not everything could be so perfect: if you wanted to enjoy your walk in peace, it was very important not to forget your insect repellent. They were the real rivals in this place 😅.

Lo bueno de que el mejor horario para dar un paseo fuera por la tarde, era que esto te permitía disfrutar de unos atardeceres hermosos. Durante mi paso por la ciudad de Formosa, aprendí que desde este punto de mi país pueden verse unas puestas de sol increíbles. Pero claro, todo no podía ser tan perfecto: si deseabas dar tu paseo en paz, era muy importante no olvidar tu repelente de insectos. Ellos eran los verdaderos rivales en este lugar 😅.

The hotel I had chosen for my stay in the city was very close to the downtown area, so after an afternoon of working on the blog, I could easily walk to wherever I wanted to go. The city center of Formosa was quite nice and tidy, which made you want to go out for a stroll. But unlike the previous time, that day I decided to head out a bit before nightfall.

El hotel que había elegido para mi estadía en la ciudad quedaba muy cerca del centro, por lo que después de una tarde de trabajo en el blog, podía ir perfectamente caminando a los lugares que quisiera. El centro de la ciudad de Formosa era bastante lindo y prolijo, por lo que daban ganas de salir a dar una vuelta. Pero a diferencia de la vez anterior, esa vez decidí ir un poco antes del anochecer.

Being a border city, bordering our neighboring country Paraguay, there was quite a strong police presence in the area. This made me feel safer traveling alone, so I didn’t mind it getting late while continuing to wander around. Besides, the riverfront area was quite busy with people exercising, walking, or simply enjoying the day.

Al ser una ciudad fronteriza, limitando con nuestro país vecino Paraguay, en los alrededores había bastante presencia policial. Esto me hacía sentir más segura viajando sola, así que no me importaba que se hiciera tarde para continuar dando vueltas hasta tarde. Además, el área de la costanera era bastante concurrida por gente haciendo deporte, paseando o simplemente aprovechando el día.

As the sun began to set, the scenery along the Formosa riverfront was painted in a beautiful pink hue. This also created a mirrored effect on the waters of the Paraguay River, which was perfect for taking some great photographs. The combination of the city skyline, the water, and the lush green vegetation—even in May—was truly charming.

A medida que iba cayendo el sol, el paisaje de la costanera de Formosa se iba tiñendo de un color rosado precioso. Esto también generaba un efecto espejado sobre las aguas del Río Paraguay, lo que era perfecto para tomar unas buenas fotografías. El conjunto que formaban la vista de la ciudad, el agua y la vegetación tan verde aún en mayo era encantadora.

Walking through the streets of Formosa brought me a certain sense of nostalgia, since this is my dad’s birthplace and over the years I had heard so many stories about this place. Being able to visit it and see it in person felt a bit like giving a real setting to all those tales. As I walked around, I of course took the opportunity to make another video call with my grandmother, and we shared the beautiful sunset together.

Estar caminando en las calles formoseñas me traía una cierta nostalgia, ya que esta es la ciudad de nacimiento de mi papá y en todos estos años había escuchado muchas anécdotas de este lugar. Poder visitarla y conocerla en persona se sintió un poco como ponerle un escenario real a todos esos relatos. Mientras caminaba por ahí por supuesto aproveché para hacer otra videollamada con mi abuela, con la que compartimos la hermosa puesta de sol.

Something I had learned from my previous outings was that under no circumstances could I forget insect repellent for my walks. As beautiful as this green landscape was, it came with just as many bugs lurking while you strolled along. It was incredible how swarms of mosquitoes would follow you in this place, and of course they never forgave a forgotten layer of repellent. There were even some that seemed resistant and bit you anyway, but fortunately I didn’t leave with any serious bites.

Algo que había aprendido en mis salidas anteriores era que bajo ningún concepto tenía que olvidarme del repelente de insectos para mis paseos. Lo que tiene de hermoso este paisaje verde lo tiene de cantidad de bichos que te acechan mientras vas caminando. Es increíble como los enjambres de mosquitos te perseguían en este lugar, y por supuesto que no perdonaban un olvido de repelente. Incluso habían algunos que eran resistentes a él y te picaban igual, pero por suerte no me fui con ninguna picadura tan grave.

The entire Formosa riverfront is a long avenue that runs along the river and eventually ends at a roundabout that leads you back to the city center. It’s about 3 kilometers one way, offering pleasant views—mosquitoes aside. In my case, by the time I reached the roundabout, the sunset was at its most magnificent, gifting me some beautiful postcard-worthy scenes. The water fountain with the flags of Formosa and Argentina, together with the colors lighting up the sky, created a stunning image. I stayed there for quite a while until night fell, happy to have finally turned my visit to this province into reality.

Toda la costanera de Formosa es una larga calle que costea el río y finalmente termina en una rotonda que te devuelve al centro de la ciudad. Serán unos 3 km de ida, en los que puedes tener agradables vistas, más allá de los mosquitos. En mi caso, para cuando llegué a la rotonda, la puesta de sol en su máximo esplendor estaba ocurriendo, lo que me regaló unas hermosas postales. La fuente de agua con las banderas de Formosa y de Argentina, más las luces del cielo, creaban una imagen hermosa. Me quedé un buen rato hasta que se hizo de noche, contenta por haber materializado mi visita a esta provincia.

The funniest thing about Formosa was that I had been traveling for a year and a half carrying my bottle of insect repellent everywhere and had never used it—until I arrived there and almost finished it in a single afternoon. On all my previous outings I hadn’t needed it, but in Formosa I was grateful to have it with me and that it hadn’t expired yet. I believe these small moments are the ones that stay with you in the end, far more valuable than any expensive or luxurious experience. Visiting this province was a big step in my travel dream, which was already very close to coming to an end ❤️.

Lo más gracioso de Formosa fue que estuve un años y medio viajando con mi pote de repelente encima y nunca lo había usado hasta que llegué ahí y en media tarde casi que me lo gasto todo. En todos mis paseos no lo había necesitado, pero en Formosa me alegré de tenerlo y de que aún no hubiese vencido. Creo yo que estos pequeños momentos son los que te acompañan al final, mucho más valiosos que cualquier otra experiencia costosa o de lujo. Visitar esta provincia fue un gran paso en mi sueño viajero, que ya estaba muy cerca de cumplir su fin ❤️.
