Visiting Azul in the interior of Buenos Aires seemed like a good plan to me because it's always a good idea to get to know a little more of my own province. Our territory is incredibly extensive, so there is always a new place to go and explore. I had already visited this town some years ago, but only in passing on a trip heading south. The idea of stopping there to do some trekking sounded interesting, so I didn't hesitate to go. I was surprised to find some elevations in this place, scattered whimsically across the flat landscape, but that was exactly what we were hoping to see 😃.

Visitar Azul en el interior de Buenos Aires me había parecido un buen plan porque siempre es buena idea conocer un poco más de mi propia provincia. Nuestro territorio es increíblemente extenso, por lo que siempre hay un lugar nuevo para ir a conocer. Yo ya había visitado esta localidad algunos años atrás, pero solo de pasada con un viaje camino al sur. La propuesta de detenernos ahí para hacer algo de trekking sonaba interesante, así que no dudé en ir. Me sorprendió encontrar algunas elevaciones en este lugar, esparcidas caprichosamente en lo plano del paisaje, pero eso era justo lo que estábamos esperando ver 😃.

I did this trip with the people from the trekking group I had met through Facebook. This was our second outing together, so I already knew some of the people attending. Getting to the accommodation they had chosen in Azul took us almost the whole day because we went at our own pace, making stops for lunch and an afternoon snack. Taking it so easy on the way there cost us the first outing of the weekend, and although we arrived too late to go for a walk, we were still able to enjoy the accommodation's swimming pool. We had no other option but to wait for the second day, when we would go visit the Boca de Las Sierras viewpoint.

Este paseo lo hice con la gente del grupo de trekking que había conocido por Facebook. Esta era nuestra segunda salida juntos, así que ya conocía a algunos de los asistentes. Llegar hasta el alojamiento que habían elegido en Azul nos tomó casi todo el día, porque fuimos a nuestro ritmo, haciendo paradas para almorzar y merendar. Tanta tranquilidad en la ida nos costó el primer paseo del fin de semana, y aunque llegamos bastante tarde como para salir a caminar, igualmente pudimos aprovechar la pileta del alojamiento. No nos quedó otra opción que esperar al segundo día, en donde iríamos a visitar el parador Boca de Las Sierras.

This place is located on the outskirts of the city of Azul, in an area of grassland fields. It is a restaurant located almost in the middle of nowhere, but around it there are trails and some elevations to explore. Guille, the guide who organized the trip, planned to explore this entire pseudo-park, then climb up to the unavoidable Mirador de la Cruz, and finally end the afternoon having something to drink at the restaurant. I liked this idea of adventure, although I noticed that it was somewhat aimed at people who are just starting out in trekking.

Este lugar queda en las afueras de la ciudad de Azul, en la zona de los campos de pastizales. Se trata de un restaurante emplazado casi en el medio de la nada, pero que alrededor tiene senderos y algunas elevaciones para ir a recorrer. El plan de Guille, el guía que organizaba el paseo, era recorrer todo este pseudo parque, luego subir hasta el infaltable Mirador de la Cruz, y luego terminar la tarde tomando algo en el restaurante. Esta idea de aventura me gustó, aunque noté un poco que estuvo orientada a gente que recién se inicia en el trekking.

The trails we explored weren't difficult at all, but they were still entertaining. We crossed grass fields, went across small streams, and even ventured a little into some small forests that were there. There were many biology teachers in the group, among people from other fields, so they would tell us what the vegetation we were seeing was. Finally, we started walking up a small slope until we reached the cross, and from there we were able to have a panoramic view of the area. Everything looked very beautiful 😃.

Los senderos que recorrimos no eran nada difíciles, pero igualmente eran entretenidos. Atravesamos campos con pastos, cruzamos pequeños arroyos, e incluso nos metimos un poco en pequeños bosques que habían por ahí. En el grupo de gente habían muchos docentes de biología entre otras áreas, por lo que nos iban contando qué era la vegetación que estábamos viendo. Finalmente, emprendimos el camino en una pequeña cuesta arriba hasta que llegamos a la cruz y desde ahí pudimos tener una vista panorámica del lugar. Todo se veía muy hermoso 😃.

We did this Saturday and Sunday trip in January of this year, and one thing worth highlighting is that it was unbearably hot. Although I had done a lot of trekking on my previous trips, in most of them I had always been in Patagonia with its beautiful cool temperatures, which was completely the opposite of this. The heat made things more interesting for everyone because it forced you to hydrate regularly, and on the steep climbs you would quickly run out of breath. It was a good reminder of what it was like to walk in the middle of summer, and definitely, I prefer exploring places with somewhat lower temperatures.

Este paseo de sábado y domingo lo hicimos en el mes de enero de este año, y algo para destacar es que hacía un calor agobiante. Si bien yo había hecho mucho trekking en mis viajes anteriores, en la mayoría de ellos siempre estuve en la Patagonia con su hermosa temperatura fresca, totalmente contrario a esto. El calor volvió las cosas más interesantes para todos, porque te obligaba a hidratarte regularmente, y en las subidas empinadas te quedabas sin aire enseguida. Fue un buen recordatorio de lo que era caminar en el pleno verano, y definitivamente, prefiero recorrer lugares con temperaturas algo más bajas.

I really enjoyed visiting this place, Boca de Las Sierras in Azul: all its fields in different colors looked perfectly and neatly designed, and having the chance to see everything from above on a very bright day was great. As planned, this hike ended at the restaurant at the place, where we all deserved a beer as a reward. It was also a relief to find air conditioning inside the place: it was exactly what we needed to cool down after almost melting under the sun during that trekking. This weekend trip to Azul was just what I needed to give the first month of the year a good story to tell. The next day was already a work Monday, so we returned home early, just in time to get back to our usual routine 😃.

Me gustó mucho visitar este lugar Boca de Las Sierras en Azul: todos sus campos de diferentes colores se veían con un diseño perfecto y prolijo, y tener la posibilidad de ver todo desde arriba con un día muy brillante fue genial. De acuerdo al plan, esta caminata terminó en el restaurante del lugar, en donde todos nos merecimos una cerveza como premio. También fue un alivio encontrar aire acondicionado dentro del lugar: era justo lo que necesitábamos para terminar de atemperarnos después de casi habernos derretido bajo el sol en ese trekking. Esta salida de fin de semana a Azul fue justo lo que necesitaba para ponerle una buena anécdota al primer mes del año. Al día siguiente ya era lunes laboral, así que volvimos temprano a casa, justo a tiempo para retomar con la rutina de siempre 😃.
