WHERE EVERY ALLEY TELLS A STORY

Today I would like to take you on another trip through the charming town of PIZZO, which I have already featured on my profile before. As some of you may already know, I visited this place together with my sister and a friend. While they were still fast asleep, I decided to get up a little earlier and wander through the streets of this beautiful town at my own pace, hoping to discover some of its hidden corners.

To be honest, I was hoping for the beautiful light of the golden hour. Unfortunately, that morning was quite cloudy and the sun barely showed itself at all. But as the saying goes, you have to make the best of what you have. After all, we can choose where to go, but we cannot choose the weather.

I think that most people visiting PIZZO focus mainly on the coastline, the beautiful sea views, or the famous Murat Castle. I, on the other hand, wanted to take a closer look at the everyday life of the town's residents. Personally, I believe that places like these have a unique atmosphere of their own. Sometimes all it takes is turning into a side street to discover corners that never make it into travel guides.

Dzisiaj zapraszam was na kolejną wycieczkę po urokliwym miasteczku PIZZO, które miałam już okazję publikować na moim profilu. Jak już wiecie, na tę wycieczkę wybrałam się razem ze swoją siostrą oraz koleżanką. Kiedy one jeszcze smacznie spały, ja postanowiłam wstać trochę wcześniej, aby na spokojnie pobuszować po uliczkach tego jakże urokliwego miasteczka i odkryć nieco jego ukrytych zakątków.

Szczerze mówiąc, liczyłam na piękne światło złotej godziny. Tego dnia jednak niebo było całkowicie zachmurzone, a słońce praktycznie w ogóle się nie pokazało. Ale jak to się mówi — jak się nie ma, co się lubi, to się lubi, co się ma. Pogody przecież nie wybieramy.

Myślę, że większość osób odwiedzających PIZZO skupia swoją uwagę przede wszystkim na wybrzeżu, malowniczych widokach na morze czy słynnym zamku Murata. Ja natomiast chciałam zajrzeć nieco głębiej i zobaczyć, jak wygląda codzienne życie mieszkańców tego miasteczka. Osobiście uważam, że właśnie takie miejsca mają w sobie najwięcej charakteru. Często wystarczy skręcić w boczną uliczkę, żeby odkryć zakątki, których nie znajdziemy w żadnym przewodniku.

Around every corner and bend, I came across old townhouses, balconies and homes decorated with flowers, all bearing the marks of time and countless years of history. The only thing missing was the classic Italian laundry hanging between the buildings — somehow I expected to see it at least once during my walk. :)

Za każdym rogiem i zakrętem czekały stare kamienice, balkony i domy przyozdobione kwiatami, nadszarpnięte już dosyć mocno zębem czasu. Brakowało mi jedynie typowo włoskiego wywieszonego prania. :)

What also amazed me was the way the entire town is built. The houses stand incredibly close to one another, and the passages between them are often surprisingly narrow, as you can see in my photos. Another thing I quickly noticed was that there seemed to be stairs everywhere. No matter which direction I went, sooner or later I found myself either climbing up or heading down another flight of steps. Every now and then I came across a flat stretch of road, but it was almost guaranteed that another staircase or at least some kind of uphill climb was waiting just around the corner. After a while, I started to suspect that the residents of PIZZO don't really need a gym membership. A simple trip to the local shop is probably enough to count as their daily workout. 😄

Niesamowite jest również to, w jaki sposób zbudowane jest całe miasteczko. Domy są budowane bardzo blisko siebie. Przejścia między nimi są naprawdę bardzo wąskie, co można zobaczyć na moich zdjęciach. I na każdym kroku czają się również schody. Raz po raz natrafiałam na płaski kawałek drogi, jednak pewniakiem było, że za chwilę pojawią się kolejne schody albo następne wzniesienie. Po takim spacerze zaczęłam podejrzewać, że mieszkańcy PIZZO nie potrzebują żadnej siłowni. Wystarczy im zwykła droga do sklepu, żeby zaliczyć codzienny trening. 😄

Getting up early definitely paid off. The town was still asleep, which meant I could wander through its streets and take photos without crowds of tourists — exactly the way I like it. As an added bonus, I didn't have my sister and my friend rushing me along. :D I could take my time, soak up the atmosphere of the place and search for interesting compositions at my own pace.

Wczesna pobudka zdecydowanie mnie wynagrodziła. Miasteczko jeszcze spało i dzięki temu mogłam robić zdjęcia bez tłumów, czyli dokładnie tak, jak lubię. Dodatkowo nie miałam nad sobą żadnych poganiaczy w postaci siostry i koleżanki. :D Mogłam na spokojnie chłonąć atmosferę tego miejsca i poszukiwać fajnych kadrów.

I really enjoy photographing places like these. In my opinion, they can often tell us far more about a country and the lives of its residents than many famous tourist attractions ever could. While landmarks show us what a place is known for, ordinary streets, balconies, stairways and hidden corners reveal what everyday life actually looks like.

Bardzo lubię fotografować takie miejsca. Potrafią one powiedzieć dużo więcej o danym kraju i życiu mieszkańców, aniżeli niejedna atrakcja turystyczna.
