WALKING AROUND NIKOLAIKIRCHE

Photographing against the sun is unfortunately not one of the easiest tasks. But what can you do when you are in a given city for only a few hours and the weather turns out to be even better than we might want. So you simply have to take on that challenge. After all, not every photo has to be perfect, technically flawless and deliver spectacular results. Especially when someone is just learning photography. Sometimes the memories and what we manage to capture in those photos are even more important.

Fotografowanie pod słońce niestety nie należy do najłatwiejszych zadań. No ale co tutaj zrobić, kiedy jesteś w danym mieście zaledwie kilka godzin, a pogoda dopisuje bardziej, aniżeli byśmy chcieli. Także należy podjąć to wyzwanie. W końcu nie każde zdjęcie musi też być perfekcyjne, idealnie techniczne i dawać spektakularne wyniki. Szczególnie, kiedy człowiek dopiero uczy się fotografii. Czasami ważniejsze są też wspomnienia i to, co udaje nam się na tych zdjęciach uchwycić.

While walking through the center of Leipzig, I couldn’t pass by St. Nicholas Church without stopping. It is one of the most important monuments in Leipzig and one of the most well-known churches in the city.And that is what today’s post will be about.

Spacerując po centrum Lipska, nie mogłam przejść obojętnie obok kościoła świętego Mikołaja. Jest to jeden z najważniejszych zabytków Lipska i jeden z najbardziej znanych kościołów w tym mieście.I o nim też będzie dzisiejszy post.

St. Nicholas Church is also the oldest church in Leipzig. It was built in the 12th century, when it was established as a Romanesque church along the important trade route Via Regia. Over many years the church was rebuilt multiple times, which is why the building we see today is a combination of different architectural styles, including Romanesque, Gothic and Classical.

Kościół Świętego Mikołaja to również najstarszy kościół w Lipsku. Został zbudowany w XII wieku, kiedy powstał jako kościół romański przy ważnym szlaku handlowym Via Regia. Przez długie lata kościół ten był wielokrotnie przebudowywany, dlatego też dzisiaj kościół, który widzimy, to połączenie różnych stylów architektonicznych, między innymi romańskiego, gotyckiego oraz klasycystycznego.

One of the most characteristic elements of this church is probably the tall tower with its light-colored façade. It is one of the symbols of the center of Leipzig. The interior of the church also looks very impressive. It presents a classical style with columns resembling palm trees and a light, pastel color palette. The interior looks very light and elegant. Personally, however, I did not go inside, as I still had plans to visit a few other monuments and I simply did not have enough time.

Chyba jednym z najbardziej charakterystycznych elementów tego kościoła jest wysoka wieża z jasną fasadą. Jest ona jednym z symboli centrum Lipska. Wnętrze kościoła wygląda również bardzo imponująco. Prezentuje styl klasycystyczny z kolumnami przypominającymi palmy i również jasną, pastelową kolorystyką. Wnętrze wygląda bardzo lekko i elegancko. Osobiście jednak nie wchodziłam do środka, gdyż miałam jeszcze w planach pozwiedzać kilka innych zabytków i nie miałam już na to tyle czasu.

St. Nicholas Church also has great historical significance. In 1989, the famous Monday prayers for peace were held here, which over time turned into peaceful demonstrations against the authorities of East Germany (NRD). These demonstrations were one of the most important events that led to the peaceful revolution in East Germany and later to the fall of the Berlin Wall. That is why St. Nicholas Church is not only an architectural monument, but also a symbol of peaceful political changes in Germany.

Kościół świętego Mikołaja ma również bardzo ogromne znaczenie historyczne. W 1989 roku odbywały się tutaj słynne poniedziałkowe modlitwy o pokój, które z czasem przerodziły się w pokojowe demonstracje przeciwko władzom NRD. Demonstracje były jednym z najważniejszych wydarzeń, które z kolei doprowadziły do pokojowej rewolucji w Niemczech Wschodnich, a następnie do upadku muru berlińskiego. Dlatego też kościół świętego Mikołaja to nie tylko zabytek architektoniczny, ale to również symbol pokojowych przemian politycznych w Niemczech.

Today, various classical and organ music concerts are very often held in this church, and the church itself is one of the most frequently photographed monuments in Leipzig.

Dzisiaj w świątyni tej bardzo często odbywają się różne koncerty muzyki klasycznej i organowej, a sam kościół jest jednym z najczęściej fotografowanych zabytków w Lipsku.
