HEIDELBERG FROM ABOVE

Kopia – Whispers.jpg

As promised earlier, I invite you to another set of frames from HEIDELBERG. This time it won’t be Heidelberg seen from the riverside, but Heidelberg viewed from above.

I started my visit to Heidelberg with the famous path SCHLANGENWEG. It is a very well-known walking path leading up the hills on the other side of the Neckar River, opposite the Old Town.
Translated literally the name means “snake path” and refers to its winding, serpentine route. The path begins near the Old Bridge and leads steeply uphill. If I remember correctly the route is about two kilometers long.
I have to admit that it was quite physically demanding for me. In some places it is really steep and at certain points you have to climb up stone steps.

Without a doubt the biggest advantage of this walk was the picturesque views. Almost the entire time while climbing up the hill, it was possible to admire the panorama of Heidelberg, the Neckar River and the Old Town.

If you want to see the city from above, with its contrasting rooftops, this is definitely one of the best places in the city.

Jeśli chcemy zobaczyć miasto z góry, kontrastowe dachy, to będzie to niewątpliwie jedno z lepszych miejsc w mieście.

The most iconic landmark of Heidelberg is, of course, its beautiful castle, also located on a hill. While walking along the Schlangenweg, you can admire the castle from a distance, as it blends perfectly into the surrounding hills.
However I won’t go into detail about the castle today, as it is interesting enough to deserve a separate post.

For the way back I chose a different walking path, which was definitely less demanding. I slightly regretted not doing it the other way around. It would have been much easier to go uphill on an asphalt road and come back via the Schlangenweg.
But as we say in Poland : "a person becomes wise after the damage is done" 😁

After this exhausting walk I headed towards the castle. As I mentioned earlier, photos of the castle will appear on my profile another day. The castle is very large and very interesting, so I took a lot of photos.

Today, however, I would like to share with you the view I found on the hill where the castle is located. It is another place in Heidelberg where you can admire the view of the Old Town, directly from above.

From this point you could clearly see the dense urban layout of Heidelberg. What also caught my attention were the red rooftops. Almost all the buildings were in the same color, which created a very pleasing composition.

In the panorama of Heidelberg one building stood out in particular — the CHURCH OF THE HOLY SPIRIT. It is one of the most important and characteristic buildings in Heidelberg. It is located in the very heart of the Old Town, right by the market square and is the largest church in the city. It was built mainly in the Gothic style between the 14th and 16th centuries.

Thank you so much! Seeing the city from above was such a special moment for me — it’s like everything suddenly slows down and you can really take it all in. Heidelberg has this unique atmosphere and I’m glad I could capture at least a small part of it. I’m really happy you felt that through my photos!

🌿✨ What a beautiful way to discover Heidelberg. I loved how you shared not only the spectacular views from the Schlangenweg and the castle hill, but also the real experience of the effort, the fatigue, and the reward of reaching the top. The panoramic views of the old town, the Neckar, and those red rooftops must be simply unforgettable. Thank you for taking us along on such a special walk. I’ll gladly wait for your next post about the castle! 🤗📸

That's quite a view up there! Reminds me of the view one can get over Brasov from the Tampa Peak on this part of the globe. Simply love this kind of places.
