ANDANCE FROM ABOVE

It was another memorable weekend in France and luckily this time I wasn’t exploring alone. One of the drivers from my company took his break at the same place and he also had a bike with him. So we decided to turn our weekend pause into a full-day cycling adventure. A bit of exercise on the road is always a good idea.

I searched in Google for our destination and found this: the small town of Andance located on the eastern bank of the Rhône River. It was around 11 kilometers from our parking spot. This was an easy, relaxed ride in sunny weather. However what really brought us here was something specific: a hill overlooking the town, crowned with three large stone crosses. We didn’t spend too much time walking around the town itself (maybe next time) because our focus was on reaching that viewpoint. The last stretch uphill wasn’t the easiest but it was short (just a few hundred meters) and absolutely worth it! You can belive me 🙂

At the top the view was breathtaking. The Rhône unfolded like a ribbon through the valley and Andance sat peacefully below, its rooftops glowing in the afternoon light. The three crosses stood silently above it all – a powerful reminder of time, faith and place. This was really a stunning view!

A bit of history:

ANDANCE is a small town in the Ardèche department, known for its beautiful setting along the Rhône and its historic suspension bridge, built in 1827.
It was the first suspension bridge over the Rhône and one of the earliest in France. Despite modern renovations it still carries the charm of early engineering and connects the town with the neighboring village of Andancette on the opposite side.

To był kolejny niezapomniany weekend we Francji – i na szczęście tym razem nie zwiedzałam sama. Jeden z kierowców z mojej firmy robił pauzę w tym samym miejscu i również miał ze sobą rower. Postanowiliśmy więc zamienić weekendowy postój w całodniową rowerową przygodę. Trochę ruchu w trasie zawsze się przyda. 🚴‍♀️🙂

Z pomocą Google znalazłam nasz cel – małe miasteczko Andance, położone na wschodnim brzegu Rodanu. Od miejsca, gdzie staliśmy, dzieliło nas około 11 kilometrów. Trasa była łatwa i spokojna a pogoda dopisała – słońce towarzyszyło nam przez cały dzień.

Ale to nie samo miasteczko było głównym celem naszej wyprawy, tylko konkretne miejsce – wzgórze górujące nad Andance, na szczycie którego stoją trzy duże kamienne krzyże. Historię tych krzyży opisywałam już wcześniej – można ją przeczytać tutaj:

Nie spędziliśmy zbyt wiele czasu, spacerując po samym miasteczku (może następnym razem), bo zależało nam przede wszystkim na dotarciu na punkt widokowy. Ostatni odcinek pod górę nie był najłatwiejszy, ale na szczęście krótki – zaledwie kilkaset metrów. A naprawdę było warto – możecie mi wierzyć 🙂

Widok ze szczytu zapierał dech w piersiach. Rodan rozwijał się niczym wstęga w dolinie, a Andance leżało spokojnie u jego stóp, z dachami lśniącymi w popołudniowym słońcu. Trzy krzyże stały cicho nad wszystkim – potężny symbol czasu, wiary i miejsca. To był naprawdę niesamowity widok!

🧭 Trochę historii:

ANDANCE to niewielkie miasteczko w departamencie Ardèche, znane ze swojego malowniczego położenia nad Rodanem i historycznego mostu wiszącego z 1827 roku.
Był to pierwszy most wiszący nad Rodanem i jeden z najstarszych we Francji. Mimo nowoczesnych renowacji nadal zachowuje urok dawnej inżynierii i łączy Andance z sąsiednią miejscowością Andancette, położoną po drugiej stronie rzeki.

Unfortunately the photos didn’t turn out exactly the way I wanted, as I didn’t notice my camera settings had changed while shooting and later, during post-processing I couldn’t quite achieve the effects I was aiming for.
