Bangkok Day 2: Strolling Through Icon Siam

If there's one thing I anticipated most for our day two in Bangkok, it would be our Chao Phraya Princess river cruise. Who wouldn't when you hear the word 'cruise'? It means something luxurious, something that shouts 'expensive!' Then there's the word "princess" too, which gives us the notion that we will be treated like princes and princesses as soon as we hop into the boat.

However, we encountered several issues with this river cruise that we will address later. Let's first visit the beautiful Icon Siam and share with you what we love about this mall.

From the Grand Palace's exit area, I booked a Grab car going to Icon Siam. We decided to go here as our planned river cruise starts at the port just in front of the mall. We were exhausted with our tour this morning because it was super hot, so we headed straight to their food court.

This was no simple food court, by the way, as soon as I went to the inner part of the food court, I figured it was a mini Thailand as well. There was a mini floating market inside, it was filled with flowers, and mind you, these were fresh flowers!

I also want to share that in our hotel, The Berkeley Pratunam, it has huge vases filled with fresh orchid flowers! I am so amazed by how they have been super extravagant when it comes to their fresh flowers!

Anyway, going back to the food court, we found a lot of local foods there, the soup, noodles, and there were so many options! There were even milk tea cafes inside, so I had to try this one with a long line. I figured it was super good! Sticky rice was also present, and we have to try their mall-made sticky rice with mango! I guess we have been eating that since day 1 until the day we flew back to the Philippines.

I'd say my husband and I aren't really adventurous when it comes to food; we would always stay in our comfort zone, as we are afraid we might have a bad stomach afterwards. So we only ordered noodle soup, which was still very good though, and a fried chicken meal.

Getting out of our table, we headed to the comfort room, and I was astonished by what we found - a meticulously designed powder room! It has a unique sink and a motion-sensored faucet. The doors and the walls were nicely painted in orange and yellow tints, and it had this sweet smell you would not expect from a mall comfort room.

From there, we headed up to the next floor, and we found an interesting camera ship name BIG camera. My husband went in and checked if there's a DJI Pocket camera, he has been looking for one in Tagbilaran City and other shops in the region but all of them were out of stocks. My husband was happy he figured they got stocks but didn't buy one yet as he still have to think about it again.

After the camera shop, we headed to a toy shop. My little one took his time to play lego and explore other toys around. We ended up getting a bubble maker toy gun. It was a little expensive for such a toy but we thought it was cheaper compared to the lego ones which he originally requested.

We headed to their upper floor level where we found an Apple Store. This was huge and the glass walls were letting bright natural light into the store. I was more interested in checking the view from the outside so I persuaded the husband to go out. But before we headed out, we went back to the camera shop and he finally bought the DJI Pocket 3 camera, he decided to get the one with the microphone.

Outside the mall, we got a view of the Chao Phraya River, this brown murky river was busy, with many boats moving here and there, the opposite side of the river has tall buildings, with one building showing unique architecture. I decided to take some shots here while the husband unboxes his new toy.

I think we spent an hour here, Icon Siam is truly iconic, they have made this mall such a beauty that at night when we passed by the mall from the cruise, it looked absolutely gorgeous, making it a highlight of the river cruise.

Next blog would be the late dinner we had been waiting and the main reason why we were in this mall.
