Hemingway's Havana Hotel [EN/ES]

It is known by the majority of Cubans that the famous American writer Ernest Hemingway lived several years in Havana, and that here he began to write several of his works, being also where he found the inspiration for his Nobel Prize, the novel The Old Man and the Sea. Many of those first years passed in the well-known Hotel Ambos Mundos, located in Old Havana, which owes its celebrity to having hosted for a time this renowned great writer of universal literature and still preserving the trace of his presence.
The Hotel Ambos Mundos is located in the center of Colonial Havana, at the intersection of Obispo Street with Mercaderes, very close to the Plaza de Armas and the Port of Havana. From the exterior one can appreciate its beautiful architecture that reminds us of the elegance of the 1930s of the past century. This hotel is a historic place full of memories and anecdotes that are part of the cultural memory of the city.
Its interior is also very elegant and spacious, with several sculptures, some in marble and others more modern. The decoration in wood, the classic furniture and the details in marble give it a distinguished air. A very singular feature is that it preserves in good condition and functioning the original elevators of the hotel, pieces that today are part of its charm. Another detail that remains intact is room 511, where the writer Ernest Hemingway lived for several years.
The room is currently transformed into a museum, and in it are preserved the personal effects of the writer just as they were arranged when he resided there. This space has become a museum and is a special attraction of the hotel, since it attracts numerous visitors and admirers of his work who wish to know closely.
The Hotel Ambos Mundos is not only another tourist site, but also a place that keeps an essential part of the history of Havana. It is one more chapter of all the anecdotes that make up the memories and the identity of the city. It is part of the wonders that inhabit every corner of Havana, and of the magic and charm that make this capital unique.

Es conocido por la mayoría de los cubanos que el célebre escritor estadounidense Ernest Hemingway vivió varios años en La Habana, y que aquí comenzó a escribir varias de sus obras, siendo además donde encontró la inspiración para su Premio Nobel, la novela El Viejo y el Mar. Muchos de esos primeros años transcurrieron en el conocido Hotel Ambos Mundos, ubicado en la Habana Vieja, el cual debe su celebridad a haber hospedado durante un tiempo al premio a este reconocido gran escritor de la literatura universal y conservar aún la huella de su presencia.
El Hotel Ambos Mundos se encuentra en el centro de La Habana Colonial, en la intersección de la Calle Obispo con Mercaderes, muy cercano a la Plaza de Armas y al Puerto de La Habana. Desde el exterior se aprecia su bonita arquitectura que nos recuerda la elegancia de los años 30 del pasado siglo. Este hotel es un lugar histórico cargado de recuerdos y anécdotas que forman parte de la memoria cultural de la ciudad.
Su interior es también muy elegante y amplio, con varias esculturas, algunas en mármol y otras más modernas. La decoración en madera, los muebles clásicos y los detalles en mármol le otorgan un aire distinguido. Un rasgo muy singular es que conserva en buen estado y funcionamiento los elevadores originales del hotel, piezas que hoy son parte de su encanto. Otro detalle que se mantiene intacto es la habitación 511, donde vivió varios años el escritor Ernest Hemingway.
La habitación actualmente está transformada en museo, y en ella se conservan los efectos personales del escritor tal y como estaban dispuestos cuando residía allí. Este espacio se ha convertido en un museo y es un atractivo especial del el hotel, pues atrae a numerosos visitantes y admiradores de su obra que desean conocer de cerca uno de los lugares donde Hemingway escribió y soñó.
El Hotel Ambos Mundos no es solo un sitio turístico más, sino también un lugar que guarda una parte esencial de la historia de La Habana. Es un capítulo mas de todas las anécdotas que conforman las memorias y la identidad de la ciudad. Forma parte de las maravillas que habitan en cada rincón de la Habana, y de la magia y el encanto que hacen única a esta capital.
