Turmero Town Center, Aragua State, Venezuela

Happy start to the weekend, everyone! As usual, I'm starting by reiterating that this is a special post 😅 I obviously enjoy every trip, every visit, and every place I discover in life, but this one was special for another reason: I visited the central area of Turmero, Aragua State. This is not only the state in my country where I was born, but also the capital of the municipality where I spent my childhood and adolescence. It used to be my everyday life, and now I have to travel to visit it, which makes it more complicated. But what filled me with the most nostalgia was revisiting places that made me so happy and helped shape the person I am today.

Santiago Mariño Square in Turmero:

Something that seems normal in all towns is that when you revisit them many years later, you discover they remain practically unchanged. I've probably passed near Santiago Mariño Square a couple of times in the last 20 years, but only because it's on my way to wherever I'm going. But this visit I made during the last carnival was specifically to reconnect with this place, to walk around, appreciate the details, go to mass, and enjoy with my mother the ice cream my father always bought there after Sunday service at Our Lady of Candelaria Church.

Our Lady of Candelaria Church:

I really thought I'd find some changes inside the church, but that wasn't the case. In fact, the beautiful red carpet that used to stretch down the middle of the central aisle wasn't even there. The Church of Turmero is one of the simplest I've seen in Venezuela, and I mean that in terms of luxury. The only things you'll find on its white walls are countless images of saints and virgins, with ordinary lamps and plenty of ceiling fans, since it's one of the hottest places, just like the rest of Turmero. But what it lacks in luxury it more than makes up for in faithful worshippers, as many devotees gather here week after week and on special occasions in honor of Our Lady of Candelaria. I think no one would regret visiting this corner of the world at least once—a peaceful place, quiet, with few people, and which has preserved its historic center intact for the enjoyment of its residents and visitors.

I would really like to visit Turmurero in Aragua State; it has several tourist and religious sites that are well worth visiting. I really liked the interior of the church, especially the wooden ceiling in the colonial style.
