Caracas from the Heights!

IMG_20260112_170919.jpg

January has turned out to be a very cool month. The city is full of flowers, and a beautiful, vibrant green color stands out everywhere. To enjoy it even more, we should take a short trip to the higher areas, as my wife and I have been doing regularly. We've hiked up, not necessarily all the way to the summit, but on El Ávila, the imposing mountain north of Caracas, you can breathe fresh air and feel an even cooler breeze, and as a bonus, nature rewards us with the most stunning landscapes... Flowers, birds, dreamy sunrises and sunsets, and even sights like these I'm sharing with you today, where the rain-filled clouds are preparing to shower the city.

We started this hiking trip in the Gamboa sector of Waraira Repano National Park. Our plan was to reach Corta Fuegos, a 1200-meter trail, and once we got there, sit down and watch the sunset. It drizzled while we were climbing, but it wasn't bothersome at all, and in fact, we took the opportunity to explore the entire Corta Fuegos trail, a flat path that runs from the center to the east of the city, but many meters above it. Strangely, neither of us had ever hiked in this area before, as when we usually go up the mountain, we always focus on reaching the summit and getting some exercise.

El Ávila is a very special place for hiking enthusiasts in Venezuela, and not just for those in Caracas who have it right in their city. There are multiple trails to hike and explore; I myself haven't explored many of them yet, but I hope to continue doing so in the coming months. Each area has something unique, and the best part is that you don't only have to access it from Caracas; you can also explore it from the coastal area, although that's a longer route. Up on the mountain, there are park rangers who work to maintain safety for visitors, protect the animal species and vegetation, and are vigilant against any potential wildfires. So it's a very safe place, although you should always be mindful when hiking.

El Ávila has so much to offer. If you live in or are visiting Caracas, Venezuela, you can't miss the experience of breathing in the fresh air of this mountain. There's something for everyone, as there's a cable car that takes you to the top if you just want to enjoy the views or if you're with very young children or elderly people. But there are also numerous hiking trails, and in this first year that I've been exploring them, I've seen elderly people, children, and pets climbing the mountain on foot. You just have to find the most comfortable route for you, and I think this area you can see in the photos is a good place to start... Thank you to everyone who reads and supports my posts, I wish you all an excellent weekend! 🙏

El Avila would be a great hiking experience to me as a hiking enthusiast. I am learning to love the art of hiking and reading this blog feels surreal and interesting. I love how you captured the panoramic view of the city skyline and buildings, with the greens all over the corners. The golden light peeping between trees looks awesome and I can almost feel the fresh air and warmth found in the trail. It must be a long journey, and I assume the trail is beginner-friendly. The path is so nice, nature is so evident and the greens upon looking around is the calm itself. Thank you for sharing this. Such a good read @jesuslnrs.

Hi! I was so happy to read this comment. I was inspired by a good friend. He always climbed Ávila Mountain, but only for exercise; he didn't even take pictures. One day I decided to try it, and it was very difficult at first, but now I can reach the summit, I take photos, and my physical and mental condition has improved. It's beautiful, and my only regret is not having discovered it sooner, haha, but everything in its own time... A hug to you from afar and my best wishes for your days!...
