Beautiful places in the central part of the Tovar neighborhood [Esp-Eng]

In previous posts, I told you about my visit to several tourist sites in Colonia Tovar that can only be reached by 4x4 through the mountains, but today I want to share my experience visiting the central part of Colonia Tovar—that is, where the buses arrive—which, fortunately, we had the chance to explore that day because we had enough time to do so.

Colonia Tovar is a really pretty place with lots to see, but I have to tell you that a few years ago, I had this idea that there wasn’t much to do there at all and that it was therefore better to make other kinds of plans. However, the last time I went—after so many years—I realized that wasn’t true. While plans to visit Colonia Tovar usually include tours to explore other places farther away, you can also have a great time right in Colonia Tovar itself.

For starters, this small, picturesque, colonial-style town is beautiful to look at all on its own. Every corner you turn offers spots where your photos will turn out amazing, and, of course, there are areas where you can simply stop and take in the mountain scenery—and if you ask me, that’s always a great plan. On this latest trip, I took the time to really observe and get to know the place well.

So in the central part of the neighborhood, there are plenty of shops where you can buy produce harvested right there, including strawberries and peaches—and I have to say, they’re the sweetest and biggest strawberries I’ve ever seen. But beyond that, it’s the experience you have in this place. You’re still in your own country, but you’re transported to a place that feels like a completely different world—from the architecture of the houses to the atmosphere, everything feels very different.

And for chocolate lovers—like my friends who visited this beautiful place with me—it’s going to be quite an experience, since there was chocolate everywhere, and they ate and bought plenty of it. Personally, I’m not a big fan of chocolate, but I didn’t miss out because they sell plenty of other things that are more to my taste.

We actually visited a chocolate factory, where—even though I don’t eat chocolate—I dared to try a little bit, and I have to say it was good, but my friends who love chocolate thought it was delicious. In this area—which had some tables and chairs, a spectacular view, and a sign that read “I Love Colonia Tovar”—we stayed for quite a while. We just sat there, feeling the breeze and taking in the scenery, and I have to say it felt incredible.

On the other hand, keep in mind that the area is quite mountainous, so you’ll see uphill and downhill sections everywhere, and I think I’d forgotten that a bit because at first we were excited as we walked all the way down, looking at all the shops, houses, and so on. But when we were coming back—as we were walking uphill—that part was really tough. I remember arriving at the bus stop out of breath because time just flew by. The last bus left at 5 p.m., and we got to the stop at 4:56.

But our visit to the neighborhood was spectacular. Every part we visited was totally worth it, but one thing I loved was that I changed my mind about the things you can do there without having to take the guided tours, which usually cost a lot more. Even on a limited budget, you can go to Colonia Tovar and have a great time with friends—and it’ll be an incredible experience, too.
