A hidden spot in the Amazon—a well of crystal-clear water [Esp-Eng]

On the way to Puerto Ayacucho, about 45 minutes before you get there, there’s a really beautiful spot hidden among the trees, at the end of a long road that seems to go on forever. We discovered this beautiful spot, where being there feels so magical, about three years ago. We arrived there after a long hike, having decided to look for a slightly deeper spot to swim during a hot summer in Amazonas.

When Pozo Azul is low—and even when it isn’t—we visit this place because it’s secluded and well-hidden in the forest. The pool is quite beautiful and has a lovely color that changes with the seasons. It’s so clear that you can see your feet in the water. What my sister-in-law and my husband like best—which is why we always go there—is that the water is deep. In fact, there are some spots where it’s deeper than you are.

Vía Puerto Ayacucho, unos 45 minutos antes, hay un lugar muy bonito que está escondido entre los árboles, al final de un camino largo que parece no tener fin. Este sitio tan hermoso, en el que estar se siente tan mágico, lo descubrimos hace como tres años. Llegamos ahí después de una larga caminata, tras tomar la decisión de buscar un sector un poco más profundo para bañarnos durante un verano caluroso en Amazonas.

Cuando Pozo Azul está bajo, e incluso si no lo está, visitamos este lugar porque está apartado de todo y bien escondido en el bosque. El pozo es bastante bello y tiene un color hermoso que cambia según la época del año. Es tan claro que puedes ver tus pies dentro del agua. Lo que más les gusta a mi cuñada y a mi esposo, porque siempre vamos para allá, es que el agua es profunda. De hecho, hay algunas partes en las que te sobrepasa.

This year we wanted to take our friends from here, where we live, so we set out on a long walk under the scorching Amazon sun. It takes us about 15 minutes to walk there, and along the way we pass several smaller pools. However, our goal is always this larger, deeper pool. When we arrived, it was great, since we were super hot, and the first thing we did was jump right into the water.

You could say this pool is in the Pozo Azul area, but it’s so far in that we’re a little unsure. It might have another name or be reached from a different location, but we haven’t figured that out yet. Therefore, it’s still part of Pozo Azul, even if it isn’t the main pool. We were a group of about eight people; we stayed there all morning and then went back for a while in the afternoon.

​Este año quisimos llevar a nuestros amigos de aquí de donde vivimos, así que emprendimos una larga caminata bajo el ardiente sol del Amazonas. Nos toma unos 15 minutos a pie llegar ahí y en el trayecto pasamos por varios pocitos más pequeños. Sin embargo, nuestro objetivo siempre es este pozo más grande y profundo. Cuando llegamos fue genial, ya que veníamos súper acalorados y lo primero que hicimos fue meternos al agua de una vez.

Podría decirse que este pozo está en el territorio de Pozo Azul, pero se encuentra tan adentro que dudamos un poco. Puede que tenga otro nombre o que se llegue a él desde otro lugar, pero por ahora no lo hemos descubierto. Por lo tanto, sigue formando parte de Pozo Azul, aunque no sea el pozo principal. Fuimos un grupo como de ocho personas, nos quedamos toda la mañana ahí y luego volvimos otro rato por la tarde.

What makes this place so special is that you can really swim freely because the water is deep enough. Beyond that, the best part is how beautiful it looks—it has a vivid turquoise color, and the water near the shore is so crystal-clear that you can see fish swimming all around you. Honestly, I love this scenery so much because I feel like there are few places like this, and we really enjoyed the experience.

While we were there, none of us had the walk back on our minds. We simply enjoyed ourselves and lived in the moment. In fact, there are several trees and the occasional branch around the pool that we used as a springboard to jump in with more momentum, which was quite fun.

My friends from Maracay, whom I mentioned in my previous post, said that of all the places they visited with us, this was the one they liked the most. And it wasn’t because the other places weren’t beautiful, but because this one is truly special. Despite being so simple and so hidden away, it’s absolutely worth it just to spend some time there and relax.

Lo que hace tan especial a este lugar es que realmente puedes nadar libremente porque la profundidad lo permite. Más allá de eso, lo mejor es lo hermoso que se ve visualmente, tiene un color verde agua bastante vívido y en la orilla es tan cristalino que puedes ver a los peces pasando a tu alrededor. Sinceramente, este paisaje me gusta demasiado porque siento que hay pocos espacios como este, y además se disfrutó un montón la experiencia.

Mientras estábamos allí, ninguno de los que fuimos tenía en mente la caminata de regreso que tendríamos que hacer. Simplemente disfrutamos y vivimos el momento. De hecho, alrededor del pozo hay varios árboles y una que otra rama que utilizamos como trampolín para lanzarnos con mayor impulso, lo cual estuvo bastante divertido.

Mis amigos de Maracay, de los que les hablé en mi anterior publicación, dijeron que de todos los lugares que visitaron con nosotros, este fue el que más les gustó. Y no fue porque los demás sitios no fueran bonitos, sino porque este es realmente especial. A pesar de ser tan sencillo y estar tan escondido, vale muchísimo la pena solo por estar ahí un rato y relajarte.
