Words like adventure, scenic sites, and memories are all part of what travel is all about, but when I started to travel I believed that travel is all about visiting some other place and clicking photographs of it. But through the various travel experiences that I have had, the different people whom I have met and by pushing my limits, I realized that travel not only made a great impact on me, but it also altered my perception of the world completely. Something which cannot be achieved by reading from books and classrooms. Looking back now, I can say that travel has changed me in many aspects of life which I could never expect.
One of the biggest transformations that travel introduced into my life is how to accept uncertainty. Prior to travel, I was someone who liked every situation to be pre-planned and premeditated. It gave me a feeling of certainty about what will happen next. But when you travel, there are a lot of uncertainties that can occur ranging from transportation delays and weather conditions to communication issues.
Initially, such uncertainties used to scare me, but as time went by, I realized that sometimes the best things that can happen to one are when things don’t go as planned.

By travelling alone, I relied solely on my own judgement and skill sets to navigate my surroundings; whether it was learning how to find my way around an area I had never been before, having a conversation with someone I'd never met before, or trying to solve a problem I had never encountered before – every experience helped me realise I was capable of much more than I had ever imagined.
Every successful trip, regardless of size, reminded me of my ability to cope with adversity and adjust to new cultures. The confidence that I gained from travelling started to carry over into other aspects of my life and allowed me to face personal and professional obstacles with increased confidence.

Before taking any trip, my perception about diverse cultures was limited by reading materials and internet resources. But personal experience of visiting other cultures has totally changed the way I used to perceive diversity. I have made acquaintance with various people who represent diverse traditions, beliefs, ways of life, but at the same time share the same desires.
Traveling has taught me that diversity should not be considered as a threat; it must be appreciated and respected. I became much more tolerant towards the diversity of cultures and much more open and appreciating.
One of the lessons travel taught me, and which I didn’t expect to learn from it at all, is the significance of human connection. It was the contacts I made with people and not the sights of famous places that made me experience some of the most memorable moments in my life. These were the talks I had with the locals of those areas where I traveled and who received me as a friend; sharing food with strangers and being offered nice things by people whom I have never even laid my eyes on.
Traveling made me realize that people all around the world have similar emotions and values like friendship, generosity, and understanding.

With the fast pace of life that exists in our lives now, it is easy to get obsessed with material things. Traveling has allowed me to witness people with much less but who seem to be content and happy. I encountered people who enjoyed themselves in family gatherings, nature, culture, and just in life's simple moments.
This has made me reflect on what really makes the difference. I learned that happiness can be gained from not having but from appreciating what one already has.
The ability to travel gave me the chance to explore some of the finest natural settings that this world has to offer, from huge mountains, valleys, lakes, and coastlines. Seeing such amazing natural surroundings helped me see how insignificant we humans are in relation to nature.
It was indeed a very enlightening experience for me which not only helped me to appreciate nature even more but also made me understand the importance of preserving the natural environment. It is because nature not only provides us with beauty but also serenity.

The change that traveling made in my life was that of appreciation of things that we usually take for granted. When we observe different living standards, hear other people’s life stories, we realize how much we are thankful for all those little things that we do not always think about – the presence of clean water, education, security, and the presence of loving relatives.
Traveling taught me that gratitude does not lie in having everything but in being grateful for what we have got.
The greatest gift that travel has given me is that it enabled me to better understand myself. It is common when one leaves their environment to learn about themselves in terms of their strengths, weaknesses, passions, and interests.
It gave me a chance to do a self-assessment without any disturbance due to routine activities.
Due to this, I got to know myself and who I wish to be. Travel allowed me to learn about myself and what I am through this whole process.
But yet, even when every journey is going to come to an end, the experience that you will gain on the journey will stay with you for your whole life. And, we move forward carrying the feelings of self-assurance, appreciation, and acceptance of other cultures along with us. Every time we travel somewhere else, we learn more about ourselves.
It is not just about getting from one place to another when you travel. When you travel, you change your life, broaden your horizon and get lots of perspectives on life. Looking back at my own trips, I understand that I changed in many ways that I had not expected and I will be forever grateful to them for that.
Traveling has been one of the most amazing experiences in my entire life. By traveling, I have learned that I am resilient, I see the bigger picture, I gain confidence, and I learn to appreciate the world and myself.
Although at first traveling was an endeavor that allowed me to visit interesting places, eventually, I realized that I have discovered something much more important for myself – personal development. Places I visited were amazing, however, the changes I underwent as a result were even more important.
