Greetings, dear friends at Worldmappin—welcome to my blog. I’m back again with this wonderful community, and I hope everyone is doing well. Today I’m sharing some photos from my stroll through the capital of Sucre, Cumaná—a city that’s becoming better maintained every day, but above all, more beautiful. It’s no wonder it’s known as the “City of Murals”; they’re everywhere, decorating the town.

Cumaná has many iconic places to visit, explore, and learn more about its history. If you come to the “first-born” of the American continent, you’ll love strolling through the historic district and taking in the entirely colonial cityscape, steeped in history. Nearby, you’ll find very old buildings, such as the Minor Basilica of Santa Inés, restored in 1853 and located in the old San Francisco neighborhood.

Very close to the historic site is Plaza Ayacucho, located on Humboldt Avenue—an iconic spot on the banks of the Manzanares River, which divides Cumaná into two areas before flowing into the Gulf of Cariaco. Ayacucho Square is part of the city’s green space, surrounded by giant, leafy trees, benches for resting, and a statue honoring the independence hero Antonio José de Sucre—a sculpture by Giovanni Turini, unveiled on October 28, 1890.

Right next door is Ayacucho Park, a recreational spot for families—and especially for children. Nearby, there are several ice cream shops, restaurants, and the Ayacucho Museum, a special place that highlights the life and work of the Grand Marshal of Ayacucho, Antonio José de Sucre.

By day, it is a cultural venue where visitors can explore a collection of antiques—including furniture, uniforms, and works of art—that illustrate the life of the Venezuelan military officer born on February 3, 1795. By night, it transforms into a building that radiates beauty thanks to its decorative lighting in colors reminiscent of the Venezuelan flag—our national tricolor of yellow, blue, and red. The place is well worth a visit because it invites relaxation and is a feast for the eyes with its murals, featuring comic book characters and other figures—many of whom are illustrious figures from Sucre’s music scene and the history of Cumaná.

Cumaná is a very beautiful city with wonderful places to explore that offer opportunities for recreation and enjoyable strolls, both in the city and along the waterfront, where the sunsets are breathtaking. Another iconic site we visited was the Hernán Marín Amphitheater, located on Avenida Cacique Maragüey along the Cinta Costera and inaugurated in December 2025.

This venue, designed to honor the performer of the eastern joropo, features several areas, such as stages for shows and concerts, restrooms, dressing rooms, and splendid spots for recreation and leisure. We went there that evening; many people visit this place to admire its nighttime scenery, ride the heart-shaped swing, and pose in front of the boat decorated with tricolor lights to take pictures—which is everyone’s goal.

Cumaná never ceases to show us its beautiful murals. Before wrapping up our visit, we went to the high school where my friend’s daughter studies. There, I managed to take several photos of the school’s well-maintained garden. I also enjoyed several murals that beautify the school grounds, all featuring well-known cartoon characters: Scooby-Doo, Donald Duck, Mickey Mouse, Fred Flintstone, Tom and Jerry, Mickey Mouse, and the Pink Panther.
