Memories from Lierfjørd-Sandnessjøen North Norway

Whenever we travel in Norway, we are always captivated by the diverse experiences it offers, ranging from quaint villages to historic towns, as well as breathtaking natural scenery, including landscapes, waterfalls, the sea, mountains, and stunning architecture. Each visit provides a completely unique experience. This time, I would like to share my journey to North Norway, specifically a place called Lierfjørd.

Lierfjørd is characterized by charming attractions such as fjords, mountains, forests, and agricultural landscapes, along with its rivers and lakes. It offers rich opportunities for activities like fishing, hunting, hiking, or simply enjoying life. This lovely spot is located in the Helgeland District of Nordland County and is connected to Sandnessjøen by the Helgeland Bridge.
Hello, friends, fellow travelers, and greetings to the community! I hope you are all doing well and enjoying wonderful moments with your loved ones.

After a busy summer, we finally found the time to visit our close friend Anni, who has had a house in Lierfjørd for many years. She invited us to travel there with her, and the journey by car took about 22 hours.

After we rested, Anni wanted to go to the supermarket. When I said I wanted to join her, she was happy and keen to show me some nearby places.

We stopped at the Lierfjørd fishermen's wharf, a small, traditional Norwegian fiskebrygga, which is a fish delivery spot. Just across the water, Anni's house was visible in the background, framed by a blue sky and the gray mountains in the distance. The harbor was beautiful, surrounded by charming scenery and numerous small boats moored in the calm, crystal-clear water. The water was so clear that we could see seaweed, algae, and shells from a distance. I admired the architecture of the house, which was painted bright red and built on sturdy wooden stilts above the water. I felt it was a very peaceful place,

After having lunch, Anni's brother planned a fishing tour. We got into his small, charming boat. Although it was a little windy, the warm summer weather kept us comfortable. While fishing, we enjoyed the beautiful landscapes from a distance the Donnaman Mountain reflecting in the sunshine. After about half an hour, the weather began to change, and the sky turned dramatically spectacular. We caught a lot of fish and took some lovely photos.

The next day, Anni drove us to the Sandnessjøen port and on to Tjøta. We crossed the Helgeland Bridge, a striking cable-stayed bridge that connects the island to the mainland. It is a massive and lengthy structure, built over two years, starting in 1989 and completed in 1991. The bridge spans 1,065 meters, with 12 sections, the longest of which measures 425 meters. Its maximum clearance above the sea is 45 meters, and its foundations extend to a depth of 31 meters. Constructed from pre-stressed and reinforced concrete along with steel cables, the bridge showcases impressive architecture by Norwegian designers. We stopped for a while to admire this remarkable feat of engineering.

Sandnessjøen is a coastal town and administrative center of Alstahaug Municipality in Nordland. Main attractions are Seven Sisters mountain, the island of Dønna, and Herøy. Sandnes Viking Site and a busy port.

At the port, from a long distance, I was attracted to the impressive mural art by the artists Leticia Mandragora and Italian street artist Jorit Agoch. Very detailed pieces of art.

The Havila Voyages cruise was on the dock, that traditional serves a coastal route between Bergen and Kirkenes. Had a regular stop to collect and depart passengers.

On the other side of the water, well-equipped commercial fishing vessels and the Viking passenger, along with other local boats, were moored at a concrete pier along a rocky shoreline

In front of us is the Sigrid Sigridsdotter, a battery-operated high-speed passenger catamaran that is currently moored. This vessel operates on specific routes around Nordland.

The Sandnessjøen port serves as a connection between mainland Norway and nearby islands through local ferries and high-speed express boats. It is also a regular stop for the renowned Hurtigruten coastal voyages. Additionally, the port handles general cargo, containers, bulk goods, and fish products across Norway.
After spending some time and looking around, we headed towards Tjøta

Tjøtta is a small flat farming island 40 kilometers from Sandnessjøen, driving along the Coastal Route.
It was very funny to see the animals freely walking on the road
We had a small stop at Løkta ferry stop to check the timetable for our next adventure. The ferry arrived exactly when we were there. It serves the local routes Dønna and Herøy.

From Løkta, the Seven Sisters mountain was visible, but because of clouds, not very clearly. We can see the regional airport.

The place has a very small population and very few houses in the area. But the harbor was very nice, with birds, small fish, shells, and seaweed.
Ferries and speedboats connect Tjøtta to nearby islands like Vega, as well as Forvik and Brønnøysund.
That was the endpoint of the road. We planned for more adventure for the next few days and to return to the Leirfjord.
