Boston's Downtown Waterfront

Walking around for 6 hours in downtown, we were getting tired. After crossing the Congress Bridge. We came to Christopher Columbus Waterfront Park.
As we were there in autumn, the trees were adorned with vibrant yellow foliage, and long shadows were cast by the low sun. In the background, modern high-rise buildings stand alongside the older architecture, which is characteristic of Boston's cityscape. This blend of urban skyline and green space reminded me of other park areas in the city. In the background stands the blue-glass skyscraper, the John Hancock Tower, Boston's tallest building, which is a well-known landmark in Boston.

Christopher Columbus Waterfront Park Trellis
The arched trellis walkway at Christopher Columbus Waterfront Park in Boston, Massachusetts, is a well-known feature along the waterfront, located near the North End of Boston Harbor. During the warmer months, this structure becomes covered with climbing plants, creating a shaded promenade for visitors. It was pleasant walking under that arched structure. For photography, peaceful surroundings and enjoying harbor views, this is a great spot.

The park also features a memorial monument, which lists the names of individuals and families, likely donors or honorees, and stands beneath the distinctive arched trellis. As a public space along Boston's waterfront, this park offers beautiful views of the harbor and serves as a gathering place for events and leisure activities.

This section of Boston's Harborwalk is a popular waterfront destination in the city. From here, we can see docked boats, historic brick buildings, and pedestrian walkways, which are characteristic of the Boston waterfront near Long Wharf and Commercial Wharf.

From here (close to water), I turned around to get these photos of the long wooden trellis in the open green space. In the background were the notable Boston skyscrapers, including the Custom House Tower with its clock face.

Boston's Seaport District is a rapidly developing area renowned for its blend of modern glass skyscrapers, historic brick buildings, and stunning waterfront views. From here, we can see the Fort Point Channel in the foreground, reflecting the buildings in the water. On the left, the Boston Tea Party Ship & Museum is visible; it's a popular historical attraction. The tall, rounded towers on the right belong to the Harbor Towers Congress Street Bridge. I mentioned in my last post about Boston.

We had very little time to catch our train. Instead of walking on the harbor walk, we took a shortcut and crossed this old brick building on Long Wharf, with a Starbucks just inside the entrance.

11.jpg
From a distance, we saw the New England Aquarium building with a crowd around it.
I was very interested to go in, but sorry to say, we had no time for that.

The aquarium is a popular public attraction situated on Central Wharf. Renowned for its distinctive modern architecture, it features a large ocean tank and a variety of marine life exhibits. This destination is a favorite among both tourists and locals, offering educational programs, animal encounters, and a huge IMAX screen. I have been there on my previous visit in 2008.

The Boston waterfront features a wide range of attractions, landmarks, and public art installations, making it a popular destination for both visitors and locals. This notable sculpture depicts dolphins leaping through waves, showcasing the many public artworks scattered throughout the harbor area.

Two tall high-rise buildings are located along the waterfront with a marina in the foreground. This scene is consistent with parts of Boston’s waterfront area, particularly near the Harbor Towers, which are well-known residential skyscrapers.

17.jpg
Looking toward the airport and marina, sailboats are visible in the foreground, and the Logan International Airport control tower is visible in the background. The red ship labeled "NANTUCKET" is a museum lightship now docked in Boston but once served as a floating lighthouse of the dangerous Nantucket shoals.

The Boston Seaport area is known for its modern architecture, tech companies, and biotech firms. The prominent building in the center with the curved glass façade and red-brick sides is part of the John Joseph Moakley United States Courthouse complex, and behind it, the Vertex Pharmaceuticals headquarters, which is a major biotechnology company based in Boston.

19.jpg
Also famous for its glass skyscrapers, scenic waterfront views, and close proximity to downtown. The district is characterized by its towering, reflective buildings and the bridge on the right. The water visible in the foreground is part of Fort Point Channel, which separates the Seaport from the Financial District.

Rowes Wharf serves as a focal point in the area, featuring Foster's Court, a courtyard adorned with grand arches and topped by a copper dome observatory that offers great views of Boston Harbor and the Financial District. This structure is considered by some to be the gateway to Boston, accessible by both land and water.

22.jpg
25.jpg
Each of the four arches in Foster's Court consists of parallel exterior and interior arches built several feet apart. These double arches support the copper-domed rotunda above. The public courtyard of Foster's Court, which connects Atlantic Avenue to the waterfront, is paved with brick and granite and features entrances to the lobbies of The Offices at Rowes Wharf on either side, but what catches the eye first is the gigantic American flag
After entering the arched entryway, we made our way to South Station to get our airport train.
Thank you very much for stopping by
All images taken by me, most of the information from my husband, as he is Boston Boy.
