Greetings, friends, travellers, and community!

Castillo de San Fernando
After discovering that the Santa Barbara Castle was closed for a few days to visitors, we returned to the old town and adjusted our plans. We followed some interesting streets along the way.
We attempted to enter the bullfighting stadium, but it was also under renovation. Moving in the opposite direction from Santa Barbara Castle, we came across the Castillo de San Fernando, a quiet and peaceful area. We climbed the hill and reached the top, where we were greeted with a beautiful view of the town, the sea/marina, and Santa Barbara Castle. There were very few tourists around, allowing us to fully enjoy the serene atmosphere and the stunning view of Alicante. spent some time there and came to the next attraction

Plaza Port del Mar/Marina, can see nice boats, small to fancy big ones. aslo port for tourist boats, traveling cruises. The place is beautifully arranged with nice plants, flowers, and a very special sculpture. I read about it is the famous sculptures from alicante cool but funny looking figure.
We keep continuing our walk, it is almost 2 PM little warm sun we took a break at the marina, walking along the water and relaxing, eating our lunch, we enjoyed all the activities going on there.

Escalera de la Reina is a nice, relaxing place. While walking around the harbor, I admired the fantastic boats. I noticed people fishing with their children, and there were plenty of fish in the water looking for food. Birds were also searching for food, and some people were feeding them.

Alicante was the start port for the around-the-world sailing race, or simply The Ocean Race, in 2023 and will be again in 2027. By the marina, there is a museum for this most prestigious race.

Alicante Old Town, specifically the Barrio Santa Cruz, is amazing and famous for its stunning architecture and charming squares. Plaza de Santa María square is very charming and has the best architecture around.
This square is dominated by the beautiful Basilica of St. Mary of Alicante, surrounded by impressive buildings. Because of christmas the basilica was open and had some services for the holidays. We easily got in there, the interior is so amazing

This impressive, monumental-style building is situated next to the Plaza de Gabriel Miro. It was constructed in 1916 but required restoration after the Civil War, and it was no longer in use by 1999. The building has since been fully restored and now serves as the Headquarters of the Postal Service.

Plaça Porta del Mar
A large square with a very interesting sculpture looks like two kind and lovely angels blessing all people around there. There is also a good view of the castle of Alicante, but it is very crowded.

Cala La Mosca

Ficus macrophylla, commonly known as the Moreton Bay fig or Australian banyan, is a large evergreen banyan tree native to eastern Australia. The Big Banyan Tree Park is fascinating, featuring huge roots of the banyan trees that surprisingly grow in the middle of town, with dozens of both small and large trees.
These old, magnificent ficus trees can be found in many centrally located parks. The Plaza Portal de Elche is in the middle of town. This park is surrounded by nice cafes and restaurants. When we visited, there were special Christmas activities for children taking place. Unfortunately, the entrance was pre-booked, so we didn't get a chance to go inside, but it looked very appealing.

These trees are so huge. very special, rooted like an art.

After walking the mushroom street, we started searching for a nice restaurant for our dinner. and planning for the next day's schedule.
Thank you very much for stopping by. See you in the next post, take care. The names of places in Spanish I found on the travel map which we got from the hotel.

Sounds like Alicante isn’t presented just as a postcard, but it’s rather a place you inhabit for a while, letting light, stone, and sea quietly do the convincing. :)
Truly amazed with your great finds and wonderful experiences in Alicante🥰 You surely had an enjoyable time.
