Boston, a city in the heart of American history. I married a Bostonian, and each year we used to travel to the Boston area to visit my parents-in-law. Sometimes we ventured into Boston itself, but I never took any photographs. Unfortunately, my in-laws have since passed away, and we've lost contact with Boston. However, we travel to New Hampshire often, landing in Boston Logan airport.

After our last trip, we were unsure if we would visit that area again. When returning to Norway, we had a flight scheduled for 9 PM, so we planned to start our journey early morning to have the day to explore Boston. For our convenience, we booked a baggage storage service where we could keep our bags and enjoy the city freely.
the railway South Station was established/open for passengers in 1899 to serve Massachusetts and the surrounding area. Now they have MBTA and Amtrak travelling companies to continue and connect with the surrounding area and farther to New York and beyond to Florida.
The newly erected South Station tower by Pelli Clarke & Partner reshapes the skyline, exactly behind South Station. It looks like it's connected to South Station, but is at a distance.
When we arrived at the South Station bus terminal, it was very chaotic, first we had to confirm our airport transport and find the baggage storage. After discovering the booked and paid for storage facility wasn't open, we had two options: either go to the airport or find some other place to store our baggage. It was already 10.45 finally we found out the railway station had a facility for its passengers.
I was surprised to see an artistic pyramid made of coolers, painted in a golden color. On one side, there was a picture of a breastfeeding mother. This installation, located at South Station in Boston, aims to create a universally understood, welcoming, and safe space for breastfeeding mothers in a busy public transit hub. I read that they have an art contest each year during International Breastfeeding Day.
Dewey Square main intersection for many streets.
The Boston Opera House was originally built as a movie theater but eventually converted to an opera house. After the opera closed down it was restored to it's original Baroque style and now houses the Boston Ballet
It's only open in the evening, and since we were there before afternoon, I took a photo from the entrance gate after consulting the policeman standing outside.
The Customs House Tower is a historical landmark in Boston. Built in 1915 on top of the already existing customs house, it was the first skyscraper in the city. it no longer has any official function but is presently operated as a vacation club
The original Old South Church is most noted for it's role in the planning of the Boston Tea Party in reaction to the Boston Massacre and colonial taxation. During the Great Boston Fire, the church was saved but not the surrounding area. After the fire the area was rebuilt as a busy commercial district so the church decided to relocate.
The original historic building remains and is now officially referred to as the Old South Meeting House
Opposite this church, the Boston Irish Famine Memorial contrasts a family of ragged, starving, newly arrived immigrants having suffered from the Irish Potato Famine with another family of prosperous immigrants who had previously resettled in America. It's a symbol of America as the land of opportunity to those willing to make the effort. What's not inferred is that such an opportunity was not extended to the original inhabitants of the land before colonization.
A crowded city, but a balanced environment with trees and small parks placed throughout.
An 8 year old boy named Martin Richard was killed in the infamous Boston Marathon bombing. In his memory, a theme park was developed featuring the words from a poster he had made as a school project: NO MORE HURTING PEOPLE - PEACE
the park and playground in the center of town.
This building is very important to me personally because it is connected with my in-laws family history. My husband's grandfather was the dean of Northeastern University for many years. Among other acheivemnts he initiated a work-study program combining training and financing to assist students who could not otherwise afford a college education. This campus building was under reparation so I didn't get any good photo of it.
Flour and Grain Exchange building
The exchange was one of several prominent buildings that were renovated by the renowned Beal family realtors
The now iconic postmodern skyscraper with 46 stories, One International Place is located in the heart of the financial district.
After walking 2 hours, we got hungry, and we headed to Quincy Market, the most popular food hub in town. The old marketplace was three halls side by side. They have since been renovated to a local-themed shopping experience with the food hub in the center. After food, we will stroll a little more, but that will be in another post. still that time, I say thank you very much and have a nice Sunday, and wishing you all have a great February ahead.
