Este crucero por el Caribe en el año 2010 fue uno de ellos.

Fuimos invitados por mi amiga Luisa Marrero para celebrar su cumpleaños y, gracias a su generosidad y a la alegría con la que compartía la vida, logramos embarcarnos en una experiencia que hoy atesoro con profunda gratitud. Lamentablemente, Luisa falleció hace pocos dias, el 2 de enero, y este viaje se ha convertido en una forma muy especial de recordarla, de honrar su luz y su presencia.

Navegar por el Caribe saliendo desde Venezuela nos llevó a Colombia, Panamá, Aruba y Curaçao, destinos que hoy no guardan solo paisajes, sino emociones compartidas, conversaciones, risas y silencios significativos.

Colombia fue una de las paradas más especiales del viaje. Dos ciudades, Cartagena y Santa Marta, nos recibieron con paisajes distintos, pero con una misma energía cálida y profundamente humana.

✨ Cartagena de Indias

Cartagena es una ciudad que se siente con todos los sentidos abiertos.
Recorrer su Ciudad Amurallada fue caminar entre calles empedradas llenas de historia, balcones cubiertos de flores, fachadas coloridas y una arquitectura colonial que parece susurrar relatos del pasado.

Las plazas estaban llenas de vida, música y movimiento. Cada rincón invitaba a detenerse, observar y conectar. La combinación del mar Caribe, las murallas históricas y el cielo abierto creaba una atmósfera magnética, donde el tiempo parece moverse con más calma.

Cartagena transmite fortaleza, belleza y alegría. Es una ciudad que honra su historia mientras vibra con energía presente.

🌴 Santa Marta

Santa Marta nos recibió con una sensación distinta: más natural, más serena, profundamente conectada con la tierra y el mar.
Las playas, el sonido constante de las olas y la vista de la Sierra Nevada al fondo crean un contraste único que solo este lugar ofrece.

Caminar por sus zonas turísticas fue experimentar calma y amplitud. Santa Marta invita a respirar profundo, a observar el horizonte y a disfrutar la sencillez del paisaje: mar, cielo y naturaleza en equilibrio.

Pero Santa Marta también tiene un peso histórico muy especial. Es el lugar donde falleció el Libertador Simón Bolívar, en la histórica Quinta de San Pedro Alejandrino. Estar allí, justo en la entrada de ese sitio tan emblemático, fue un momento cargado de significado. Sentir que estábamos a pasos del lugar donde terminó la vida de una figura tan importante para América Latina fue profundamente impactante.

Lamentablemente, no pudimos ingresar. En ese momento, el acceso requería dólares en efectivo, y nosotros no contábamos con efectivo, solo con una tarjeta de crédito en dólares. No había punto de venta ni opciones de pago digital, y conseguir dólares en efectivo no era sencillo. Así que, aunque estuvimos justo en el umbral de ese lugar histórico, tuvimos que aceptar que esa experiencia quedaría pendiente.

Frente a la Quinta se encuentra un centro comercial, y fue allí donde decidimos continuar el día. Pudimos recorrerlo con tranquilidad, pasar un rato agradable, comprar ropa y disfrutar de un entorno más moderno, creando un contraste interesante con la carga histórica que acabábamos de vivir.

Más allá de no haber podido entrar, Santa Marta nos dejó una sensación profunda: la de estar en un lugar donde la historia, el mar y la vida cotidiana conviven en un mismo espacio. Fue una experiencia auténtica, real, vivida tal como se presentó.

Hoy recuerdo este viaje con el corazón lleno.
Fue una celebración de la vida, de la amistad y de momentos que permanecen más allá del tiempo.

This Caribbean cruise was one of them.

We were invited by Luisa Marrero to celebrate her birthday, and thanks to her generosity and the joy with which she shared life, we were able to embark on an experience that I now treasure with deep gratitude. Sadly, Luisa passed away on January 2, and this journey has become a very special way to remember her and honor her light.

Sailing through the Caribbean from Venezuela took us to Colombia, Panama, Aruba, and Curaçao—destinations that now hold not only landscapes, but shared emotions, conversations, laughter, and meaningful moments of silence.

Colombia was one of the most special stops of the trip. Two cities, Cartagena and Santa Marta, welcomed us with different landscapes, yet the same warm and deeply human energy.

✨ Cartagena de Indias

Cartagena is a city meant to be experienced with all the senses open.
Walking through the Walled City felt like stepping into cobblestone streets filled with history, flower-covered balconies, colorful facades, and colonial architecture that seems to whisper stories from the past.

The plazas were full of life, music, and movement. Every corner invited us to pause, observe, and connect. The combination of the Caribbean Sea, the historic walls, and the open sky created a magnetic atmosphere where time seems to slow down.

Cartagena radiates strength, beauty, and joy. It is a city that honors its history while vibrating with present-day energy.

🌴 Santa Marta

Santa Marta welcomed us with a different feeling—more natural, more serene, and deeply connected to the land and the sea.
The beaches, the constant sound of the waves, and the view of the Sierra Nevada mountains in the background create a unique contrast found only in this place.

Walking through its tourist areas felt like experiencing calm and spaciousness. Santa Marta invites deep breathing, long gazes toward the horizon, and appreciation for simple beauty: sea, sky, and nature in balance.

Santa Marta also carries a powerful historical weight. It is the place where Simón Bolívar, the Liberator of much of Latin America, passed away, at the historic Quinta de San Pedro Alejandrino. Standing right at the entrance of such an emblematic site was a deeply meaningful moment. Being just steps away from where such an important historical figure spent his final days was truly impactful.

Unfortunately, we were not able to enter. At that time, admission required U.S. dollars in cash, and we did not have cash—only a credit card with U.S. dollars available. There were no card terminals or digital payment options, and obtaining cash dollars was not easy. So even though we were right at the threshold of this historic place, we had to accept that this experience would remain unfinished.

Across the street from the Quinta, there is a shopping center, and that’s where we chose to continue our day. We were able to walk around peacefully, enjoy ourselves, shop for clothes, and experience a more modern environment, creating an interesting contrast with the historical weight we had just encountered.

Beyond not being able to enter, Santa Marta left us with a deep impression: a place where history, the sea, and everyday life coexist in the same space. It was an authentic experience, lived exactly as it unfolded.

Today, I remember this journey with a full heart.
It was a celebration of life, friendship, and moments that remain beyond time.
