Days in Varadero/Días en Varadero (Eng_Esp)

(edited)

Arriving in Varadero always gives me that feeling of entering a postcard that decided to breathe. The road seems to stretch like a pale ribbon between green and blue, and suddenly, there is the hotel, standing facing the sea like an elegant sentinel with the vocation of a host.

I stay at the Labranda, and from the first step in the lobby I feel that the place has its own rhythm. The air smells of salt and tropical flowers, and an insistent breeze slips through the open windows as if it also had a reservation. The marble floor reflects the light of the Caribbean, creating flashes that look like small constellations under my feet.

Check in is quick, almost ceremonial. A bracelet on my wrist and suddenly I'm officially part of the hotel's microcosm. I go up to the room and when I open the door I am greeted by a comfortable silence, the kind that does not bother but embraces. The bed is wide, white, impeccable. The balcony is the true protagonist: when you draw the curtains, the sea appears without shyness, extended as far as the eye can tire. Blue is not a color, it is a state of mind.

I spend the afternoon walking along the private beach. The sand is so fine that it looks like flour roasted by the sun. The transparent water allows my feet to be seen as if they were floating on liquid crystal. I submerge and the outside world shuts down. All that remains is the sound of the water and my rhythmic breathing. I leave with salt-spattered skin and the feeling of having reset myself.

In the pool, the scene is different. Soft music, laughter, cocktails that shine like fruity jewels. I order a mojito and hold it for a few seconds before tasting it, watching the ice tinkle like tiny bells. I lie back on a lounge chair and let the sun paint me gold while I watch the guests come and go, each one in their own little vacation story.

The night brings another version of the hotel. The lights turn on and the place takes on a theatrical air. I dine in one of the themed restaurants, where the flavors compete to surprise. Then, a show at the hotel's theater mixes Cuban music and vibrant choreography. There is something magnetic about watching the dancers move with that energy that seems inexhaustible.

Before going to sleep, I return to the balcony. The sea is no longer blue but an infinite shadow splashed by the moon. I hear the waves breaking softly, as if someone were turning giant pages in the dark. I take a deep breath. I think about how funny it is that sometimes we don't need to cross oceans to feel like we're traveling far. A corner like this is enough, where time slows down and the soul finds an invisible hammock to rock. 🌊✨

In the Philippines, you can legally be arrested even if no crime was completed—an attempt to commit even just an offense is enough under the Rules of Court.
