Exploring a bit of Eastern Estonia

I can finally use my PC again, damn I missed it. Which also means I can finally process my photos again, which have been piling up for a while. I have a ton of stuff that is long overdue for a post here on Hive. Today I wanted to share some places I visited during my trip to eastern Estonia last summer. Crazy to think, soon it's already summer again now.

My father had a place booked for us to chill out, right at the largest lake in Estonia. The lake Peipus.

The lake itself pretty much feels like a sea because you can't see the opposite shore. I have been noxt to this lake numerous times before, but the water level was different this time. There was almost no sandy beach left anywhere. The lake was much higher than it usually is. Here are some shots I took there that evening.

The water was extremely warm at the time. If I do remember correctly, it was around 24 degrees C. Literally like a soup.

The next day, we had several disc golf rounds planned, but we also managed to visit a couple of points of interest in the area. One of such places was the Iisaku watchtower.

This tower is a 28-meter-high wooden structure. It's already situated on a high point, on the second-highest hilltop in Eastern Estonia. This means the view distance is long, depending on the weather.
When I was there, the weather was cloudy and a bit hazy but the views still were pretty damn nice.

Looks peaceful, but the forest was infested with insane amounts of mosquitoes. I don't miss those little shits for sure. The only downside of the summer. Hopefully, the coming summer will be a bit better in terms of the number of those blood suckers.

So what was I able to see from the top of the tower? Well, a whole bunch of plat landscape 😄. A lot of forested areas, some farmlands, and fields. Classic Estonian countryside views, but it's beautiful. I can't say for sure how long the visibility was, it's really difficult to judge it by eye, but my bet is about 25km.

Although I like heights and am not afraid of it, still feel a bit uneasy when staring right down below. Held my camera firmly in my hand for sure.

I wonder if I will happen to visit this part of the country in this year as well. Currently no plans, but the plans I make can appear very suddenly.
