The state of Lara in Venezuela has many places worth visiting, offering a chance to escape the city and immerse yourself in a rural setting, breathe in the fresh air, and enjoy beautiful scenery.

Several months ago, I visited a small village called “Aguada Grande,” located about 60 kilometers from Barquisimeto. The first time I visited, the friendly locals told me that people call it “the town of two lies,” because it has no water and isn’t actually very big.

To reach this village from the city of Barquisimeto, you must take the road toward Churuguara and pass through several hamlets such as “El Copeyal” and “El Porvenir,” among others. Upon arriving at El Porvenir, you’ll find a fork in the road: to the left is the road to Aguada Grande, and to the right is the road to Churuguara, in Falcón state.

The stretch of road from El Porvenir to Aguada Grande is a mountain road with many curves. It is an area where xerophytic vegetation predominates, with the cuji, the cardón, and the sisal standing out as the main examples of the flora of this region of Lara.

Along the way, there is an abundance of trees and shrubs that paint a large part of the road green. However, most of the time, the hills appear barren due to a lack of rain.

Upon arriving in El Porvenir, we stopped at the “Los Compadres” gas station to fill up, grab a bite to eat, and stretch our legs.

It takes about two hours to get to Aguada Grande, including a stop. I should mention that the road isn’t in the best condition and you can’t drive very fast, which makes the trip feel longer.

When we entered the village, we found that both claims were true. It is a small village, with one street leading in and one leading out, and not even a pond is visible anywhere.

It is surrounded by simple houses, has a clinic, a high school, and several food shops. There are always people on the street shopping or simply chatting to pass the time.

The people in the hamlets are always attentive to visitors and willing to help. They are generally farmers who grow sisal and aloe vera and also raise cattle and goats.

Currently, this area produces various food items, such as dairy products like cheese, whey, and cream, the famous cocuy de penca, and the best pan de tunja, known as pan de Aguada Grande.

Unfortunately, when we passed by the bakery, they were remodeling it and it wasn’t open to the public. They sell not only bread but also dulce de leche, caramel, and other baked goods.

It is a small town but rich in human warmth. If you ever visit, don’t forget to ask for the Aguada Grande bread to enjoy with your café con leche.

De visita al poblado de Aguada Grande- Lara-Venezuela

El estado Lara en Venezuela posee muchos lugares dignos para brindarles una visita y cambiar de un ambiente de ciudad a un ambiente campestre, para respirar aire puro y disfrutar de bonitos paisajes.

Hace ya varios meses estuve de vistita a un caserío o poblado llamado "Aguada Grande", ubicado a unos 60 kilómetros de Barquisimeto. La primera vez que lo visité la gente muy atenta me comentaban que le decían "el pueblo de las dos mentiras", porque no tiene agua y tampoco es grande.

Para llegar a este poblado desde la ciudad de Barquisimeto, se debe toma la vía hacia Churuguara y pasar por varios caseríos tales como "El Copeyal" y "El Porvenir, entre otros. Al llegar al porvenir, nos encontramos un cruce de vías: a la izquierda la via hacia Aguada Grande y a la derecha la via hacia Churuguara, estado Falcón.

El tramo vial desde el porvenir hasta Aguada Grande, es una carretera de montaña con abundantes curvas. Es una zona donde la vegetación predominante es xerofila, destacando el cuji, el cardón y el sisal como principales exponentes de la flora de esa región larense.

Por el camino se observa abundante presencia de árboles y arbustos que pintan de verde una gran parte de la vía. Sin embargo, la mayor parte del tiempo, se aprecian los cerros pelados por falta de lluvia.

Llegando a el porvenir nos detuvimos en la estación de servicio "Los compadres" a echar gasolina, comer algo y estirar las piernas.

Son aproximadamente dos horas de recorrido hasta Aguada Grande, haciendo una parada. Debo decir que la vialidad no está en el mejor estado y que no se pueden desarrollar gran velocidad, lo cual hace más pesado el recorrido.

Cuando entramos al poblado comprobamos que las dos mentiras son ciertas. Es un pueblo pequeño, con una calle para entrar y una para salir y por ningún lado se observa ni siquiera una laguna.

Esta rodeado de casas sencillas, posee un ambulatorio, un colegio o liceo para educación diversificada y varios negocios expendedores de alimentos. Siempre hay gente en la calle haciendo compras o simplemente conversando para pasar el tiempo.

La gente de los caseríos es siempre atenta con los visitantes y están dispuestos a ayudar. Generalmente son agricultores, dedicados al cultivo del sisal, sábila y también se dedican a la cría de ganado vacuno y caprino.

Actualmente en esta zona se producen varios rubros alimenticios tales como productos lácteos como quesos, suero y cremas de leche, el famoso cocuy de penca y el mejor pan de tunja conocido como el pan de Aguada Grande.

Lamentablemente cuando pasamos por la panadería la estaban remodelando y no estaba abierta al público. No sólo venden panes sino dulces de leche, arequipe y otras delicias panaderas.

Es un pueblo pequeño pero rico en calor humano. Si algún día lo visitas, no olvides preguntar por el pan de Aguada Grande, para acompañar al café con leche .
