Hello dear friends,
Today I am taking you to a beautiful city in the central part of Serbia called Kragujevac. The city is the heart of Å umadija and the fourth largest city in Serbia.
Once upon a time, during the time of MiloÅ” ObrenoviÄ, Kragujevac was the capital of Serbia.
The Lepenica River flows through the city and it is about 100 km away from Belgrade.

Kragujevac was named after the bird Kraguj, which is mentioned in old Serbian epic poems, and it is otherwise a city known for its extremely developed artistic culture.
The first gymnasium, the first theater, the assembly building, elementary schools, museums, everything was opened almost earlier than in Belgrade.
We visited the city center and you will see from the photos how beautiful the city itself is.
Near the city is the famous place Å umarice. It is known for the sad tragedy of World War II, when all the students and teachers of the First Gymnasium were shot in Å umarice. That was on October 20, 1941. The saddest Serbian poem "Bloody Fairy Tale" was written about that event, written by Desanka MaksimoviÄ.
I will write the name of each photo for you, so you will see how culturally and historically significant the city of Kragujevac is.
This is the Vojvoda Radomir Putnika Square

Pedestrian zone called "Kod sata"

A part of the city where you can see old buildings
This left is the oldest "Balkan" cafe

This is a new church in the very center of the city

A monument to the rock group "Smak" from Kragujevac. "They played as an opening act for many world bands, and their biggest hits are "Crna dama", Å umadijski blues", "Daire", and "Satelit".

The following photos show the First Kragujevac High School founded in 1833. It is currently being restored. There is also a plateau in front of the gymnasium itself,as well as a monument to Vuk Karadzic.

As I said, Kragujevac is an extremely rich city with cultural and historical events.
This is the First Serbian Theater, founded in 1835. It was founded by Joakim VujiÄ and Prince MiloÅ” ObrenoviÄ. It was called the Princely Serbian Theater

Let's go on a tour and get to know one of the most beautiful cities in Serbia.
Since Kragujevac is also the University Center, there is also the famous "Ferijalac", a student dormitory with a canteen.

We arrived at the National Museum, which is located within MiloÅ”'s residence. Prince MiloÅ” ObrenoviÄ stayed in the inn with his wife Ljubica throughout his reign.

An unavoidable bridge, because the Lepenica River flows through the city. The road leads across the bridge to the famous "Zastava" car factory.

We are now heading back towards the gymnasium and the nearby park. There is a monument to the victims from 1815. Then the 2nd Serbian uprising took place, and in February of the same year, in Kragujevac, the First Constitution of Serbia was adopted. It was signed in the current building of the Municipality.

Another monument in the city center was erected in 1993 as a memorial to all those who died in the wars of 1990-1999. year. It is called the Assumption Monument.

This will end the tour of the city of Kragujevac. We had a really nice time. A vacation for both the heart and the soul, and we also remembered the history of Serbia that we learned at school. However, until all of this is seen, it cannot be experienced in the right way. I hope you enjoyed this virtual walk through Kragujevac.
If your road leads you to Serbia, mark this beautiful city on your list as something worth seeing.
