Island of Rab-Croatia

Hello dear friends,
Today I am telling you about an island located in Croatia, one of the most visited resorts on the Adriatic Sea. An island that has seen an increase in population over the last 20 years.
We vacationed here for 6 days and are continuing our journey to Montenegro.
The island can be reached via the Belgrade-Zagreb highway, where we also went, to the town of Stinica. There we boarded the ferry, then took the ferry to the town of Mishnjak, from where we continued our journey by car. All in all, from Belgrade to Rab, we traveled for about 10 hours.

Rab is a large island with a rich culture and history. Houses and buildings built of stone and stone slabs give it an amazing look. All streets are paved, narrow, and also in stone slabs is a large square with beautiful restaurants, shops, markets.
We visited several beaches and climbed the hill above Rab, from where you can see the other islands, including Goli Otok. Goli otok was a prison, a penitentiary during the reign of Josip Broz Tito. He sent his dissidents to Goli Otok, where they had only one task all day long: To carry stones from one part of the island to another. Sun, rain, wind, it didn't matter. They had to carry stones. Unfortunately, a large number of people died there, but all who survived testified to the kind of calvary they went through on Goli Otok.

Let's go back to the sea and swimming. The water was quite cold, but also extremely clean and clear. We easily get used to the cold water, so we spent most of the day on the beach and nearby cafes.
6 days passed like a blink of an eye and we continued our journey, visiting the Adriatic Sea,
I forgot to tell you that the island of Rab is also known for Saint Marino who lived there and after whom the small town of San Marino was named.
Here, another interesting piece of information about this beautiful island in Croatia.

Your trip sounds absolutely amazing! We also drove from Belgrade last summer and that ferry from Stinica felt like a little adventure itself. Ten hours is rough though, next time we’re considering flying into Zadar instead. I was browsing breeze airways reviews last night to see if budget flights could cut the travel time for our family. Rab’s stone streets are worth any journey though. Did you try the local škampi na buzaru near the main square?
