Crossing Borders: A Motorhome Journey from Belgium, Luxembourg to Neckarsteinach, Germany

Our adventure came to an end in Belgium, so with the motorhome packed and ready to go, we set off towards Luxembourg, enjoying the changing scenery as we travelled.

One of the interesting sights along the way was the intricate water tower in Luxembourg. Its unusual design really catches your attention as you drive past. It is a whopping 68 metres over the motorway, and the Ban de Gasperich water tower is actually the tallest in the country. Its unusual exterior is wrapped in a lattice of woven white aluminum designed to mimic lace, which reflects the sun as you drive past and stores a massive million litres of fresh water for the surrounding area inside. It is the nicest water tower I've ever seen.

After a stop for a coffee, a stretch of the legs and something to eat, we continued our journey through Luxembourg before crossing into Germany. The scenery changed again, with forests, fields and countryside. We were getting closer to our destination of Neckarsteinach, a beautiful town on the River Neckar.

By the time we arrived at the campsite, we were more than ready to stop for the day. We found our pitch and carefully manoeuvred the motorhome into position. It was quite a congested campsite but people seemed to keep to themselves.

Once we were settled, we put out the chairs, made ourselves comfortable and enjoyed a well-earned drink. It was lovely to sit outside and take in the view over the River Neckar.

Later in the evening, we went for a walk along the lane and back through the forest.

This is the Hinterburg (also known as Alt-Schadeck), a medieval castle ruin located above Neckarsteinach.

We sat outside for a while longer, watching the river traffic slowly pass by and enjoying the quiet before heading inside to get some rest for tomorrow. More adventures to come when we pop into the old town of Heidelberg.
