☀️My last trip of 2025: Patanemo Bay-Puerto Cabello || Mi último viaje del 2025: Bahía de Patanemo-Puerto Cabello🌊🏖️

To end 2025 on a high note, I needed a break🌿 Patanemo Bay was a place we had wanted to visit for a long time, but between routines and pending tasks, it was always left for “later.” Taking advantage of the fact that we wouldn't be traveling for Christmas or New Year's this year, we decided to treat ourselves as a family to one last trip, small but meaningful, to say goodbye to the year in a peaceful and mindful way✨

It wasn't a long trip, just a day trip... but it had that special energy that plans made with love have. It was a trip that brightened my life and gave me space to heal the wounds that the year had left behind🌊

Para cerrar bien el 2025 necesitaba una pausa🌿 La Bahía de Patanemo era un lugar que queríamos visitar desde hace tiempo, pero entre rutinas y pendientes, siempre se quedaba para “después”. Aprovechando que este año no viajaríamos en Navidad ni en Año Nuevo, decidimos regalarnos como familia un último viaje, pequeño pero significativo, para despedir el año de una forma tranquila y consciente✨

No fue un viaje largo, solo un tour de un día… pero con esa energía especial que tienen los planes hechos desde el cariño. Fue un paseo que me alegró la vida, y me dejó espacio para sanar las heridas que el año había dejado🌊

The first stop of the day was the beach, and we arrived quite early, around 7 or 8 in the morning🌅 At that time, the place was almost deserted, and you could still feel the typical cold morning breeze. Everything was quiet, which made for a very pleasant start to the day.

The road to get there offers tourists beautiful views. The highway winds up and down the mountain, and from there you have a beautiful view of the bay and the lagoon on one side. There is a specific point where the water from both landscapes meet, and it is so beautiful that it is impossible not to stop and look. Before reaching the beach, the lagoon welcomes you with flamingos, an unexpected and very nice surprise🦩

La primera parada del día fue la playa, y llegamos bastante temprano, alrededor de las 7 u 8 de la mañana 🌅 A esa hora el lugar estaba casi solo y todavía se sentía el viento frío típico de la mañana. Todo estaba tranquilo, lo que hizo que el inicio del día se sintiera muy agradable.

El camino para llegar regala unas hermosas vistas al turista. La carretera sube y baja la montaña, y desde ahí se tiene una vista hermosa de la bahía y de la laguna que queda a un lado. Hay un punto específico donde el agua de ambos paisajes se unen, y es hermoso, imposible no detenerse a mirar. Antes de llegar a la playa, la laguna te recibe llena de flamencos, un detalle inesperado y muy lindo 🦩

The beach is not easily accessible, so not many people go there, which makes it even more special. Something I loved was that there are lots of dogs in the area🐶 They are calm, they don't bother you, they just lie down nearby waiting for some food or company. One even accompanied me to the water's edge and stayed there with me for a while, which made the experience even more fun and memorable.

The water temperature changed throughout the day. At first it was cold, then the sun came out and warmed it up considerably, and later it cooled down again. The water level is low, ideal for children, and the waves at the shore are gentle; however, if you walk a little further out, you do have to be careful because they get stronger🌊

On the beach, there are typical establishments where you can buy food and drinks, as well as several street vendors. Another interesting detail is that, in addition to the lagoon, there is also a river that flows right onto the beach. Its water is the coldest because it comes directly from the mountains, but it is completely clean and crystal clear💧

La playa no es de fácil acceso, así que no llega mucha gente, lo que la hace más especial. Algo que me encantó es que hay muchos perros en la zona 🐶 Son tranquilos, no se meten contigo, simplemente se acuestan cerca esperando un poco de comida o compañía. Uno incluso me acompañó hasta la orilla del mar y se quedó ahí conmigo un buen rato, lo que hizo la experiencia aún más divertida y memorable.

El agua estuvo cambiando de temperatura durante el día. Al principio estaba fría, luego salió un sol fuerte que la calentó bastante, y más tarde volvió a refrescar. El nivel del agua es bajo, ideal para niños, y las olas en la orilla son suaves; aunque si caminas un poco más adentro, sí hay que tener cuidado porque se vuelven más fuertes 🌊

En la playa hay los locales típicos donde se puede comprar comida y bebidas, además de varios vendedores ambulantes. Otro detalle curioso es que, además de la laguna, también hay un río que desemboca justo en la playa. Su agua es la más fría, porque viene directamente de la montaña, pero está completamente limpia y cristalina 💧

Our next stop was the historic center of Puerto Cabello, the second most important city in the state of Carabobo✨ We began the tour at the Cocoa chocolate shop, where a guide from Patanemo Turismo was waiting to give us some important information during the tour.

There I learned several things that, honestly, I didn't know. For example, that chocolate is not “pure cocoa” as we usually say, but a mixture that has at least 25% cocoa and cocoa butter 🍫. We were also told that Venezuela has more than 20 certified types of cacao and is one of the countries with the best quality cacao in the world (clearly a source of national pride).

Another interesting fact was about the chocolates: they are called bombones because they always have a filling. In this chocolate shop, one of the most famous is the “Edgar Ramírez” because, as we were told, it is delicious and it is a bombón... and yes, the name suits it perfectly 😅✨

Nuestra siguiente parada fue el centro histórico de Puerto Cabello, la segunda ciudad más importante del estado Carabobo✨ Comenzamos el recorrido en la chocolatería Cocoa, donde nos estaba esperando una guía de Patanemo Turismo para darnos algunos datos importantes durante el paseo.

Ahí aprendí varias cosas que, honestamente, no sabía. Por ejemplo, que el chocolate no es “cacao puro” como solemos decir, sino una mezcla que tiene al menos un 25% de cacao y manteca de cacao 🍫. También nos contaron que Venezuela cuenta con más de 20 tipos de cacao certificados, y que es uno de los países con cacaos de mejor calidad en el mundo (orgullo nacional, claramente).

Otro dato curioso fue sobre los bombones: se llaman así porque siempre tienen relleno. En esta chocolatería, uno de los más famosos es el “Edgar Ramírez”, porque —según nos dijeron— está bueno y es un bombón… y sí, el nombre le queda perfecto 😅✨

Then we continued on to St. Joseph's Cathedral, a church that has been standing since the 19th century and took over 100 years to build⛪. My grandmother always says that when you enter a church for the first time, you should pray and ask God for a wish or a miracle. So I did just that, quietly, in my own way🤍

Then we passed through Plaza Bicentenaria, also known as the classic Plaza Bolívar, which is a staple in every major city🌳. In this plaza, there are several giant models representing key locations in the state of Carabobo. One of them is the Puente de los Españoles, located over the San Esteban River in a forest between Puerto Cabello and Valencia. There is also a model of the El Palito Refinery, a key facility in the oil sector and a must-stop for breakfast, because they serve some of the best empanadas there 🥟 (very important information for any traveler).

Another model shows the main islands of Puerto Cabello. The largest and only one open to tourism is Isla Larga, which is also one of my favorite beaches🏝️ You can also see representations of Castillo San Felipe, a fortress built between 1732 and 1741 that was key at different moments in our history, and Fortín Solano, a military fortress built in 1766.

Luego continuamos hacia la Catedral de San José, una iglesia que está en pie desde el siglo XIX y cuya construcción tomó más de 100 años ⛪ Mi abuela siempre dice que cuando entras por primera vez a una iglesia, debes rezar y pedirle a Dios un deseo o un milagro. Así que hice exactamente eso, en silencio, a mi manera 🤍

Después pasamos por la Plaza Bicentenaria, también conocida como la clásica Plaza Bolívar, que nunca falta en las ciudades importantes 🌳. En esta plaza hay varias maquetas gigantes que representan lugares clave del estado Carabobo. Una de ellas es el Puente de los Españoles, ubicado sobre el río San Esteban, en un bosque entre Puerto Cabello y Valencia. También está la maqueta de la Refinería El Palito, una instalación fundamental del sector petrolero y, además, una parada obligatoria para desayunar, porque allí se comen algunas de las mejores empanadas 🥟 (dato importantísimo para cualquier viajero).

Otra maqueta muestra las islas principales de Puerto Cabello. La más grande y la única abierta al turismo es Isla Larga, que además es una de mis playas favoritas🏝️ También se pueden ver representaciones del Castillo San Felipe, una fortaleza construida entre 1732 y 1741 que fue clave en distintos momentos de nuestra historia, y del Fortín Solano, una fortaleza militar construida en 1766.

Surrounding all these models is a walled enclosure that is over 200 years old and was part of the original construction that existed on this site at the time. After touring the square, we made a brief stop at the Municipal Palace, a space that was remodeled and currently houses different exhibitions with elements characteristic of Puerto Cabello🏛️ Among them are two immersion rooms with virtual reality glasses: one that shows important places in the state of Carabobo and another that simulates a paragliding ride.

I could only enter the first room because I didn't get the chance to try paragliding. Maybe that's being saved for when I do it in real life 😌✨. Even so, it was my first time using virtual reality glasses and the experience was really cool. There was a moment when I really felt like I was surfing or kayaking, which surprised me a lot.

Rodeando todas estas maquetas se encuentra una pared amurallada que tiene más de 200 años de antigüedad y que formaba parte de la construcción original que existía en ese lugar en su momento. Después de recorrer la plaza, hicimos una breve parada en el Palacio Municipal, un espacio que fue remodelado y que actualmente alberga diferentes exposiciones con elementos característicos de Puerto Cabello 🏛️. Entre ellas, hay dos salas de inmersión con lentes de realidad virtual: una que muestra lugares importantes del estado Carabobo y otra que simula un paseo en parapente.

Solo pude entrar en la primera sala, porque no me dio chance de hacer la experiencia del parapente. Quizás esa se está guardando para cuando la haga en la vida real 😌✨. Aun así, fue mi primera vez usando lentes de realidad virtual y la experiencia fue muy genial. Hubo un momento en el que realmente sentí que estaba surfeando o remando en kayak, lo que me sorprendió muchísimo.

We then continued on to the Herrera House Museum, where we visited several rooms dedicated to the history of Carabobo. There we learned about the state's fauna and flora, its fortifications, the indigenous peoples who inhabited these coasts, and the various battles that were fought on these lands. It was a very comprehensive and easy-to-follow tour, ideal for gaining a better understanding of the historical importance of the area.

At the end of the visit, we managed to climb to the top floor, where we had a panoramic view of the sunset over the harbor🌅 The warm sea breeze, the sound of the waves crashing against the rocks, and the people walking happily through the streets created a very special atmosphere. It was one of those peaceful moments that stays with you, without needing to do much else.

Luego continuamos hacia el Museo Casa Herrera, donde recorrimos varias salas dedicadas a la historia de Carabobo. Ahí aprendimos sobre la fauna y la flora del estado, sus fortificaciones, los pueblos indígenas que habitaron estas costas y las distintas batallas que se libraron en estas tierras. Fue un recorrido bastante completo y fácil de seguir, ideal para entender mejor la importancia histórica de la zona.

Al final de la visita, logramos subir hasta el último piso, desde donde tuvimos una vista panorámica del anochecer en el puerto 🌅. La brisa cálida del mar, el sonido de las olas chocando contra las rocas y la gente caminando alegre por las calles crearon un ambiente muy especial. Fue uno de esos momentos tranquilos que se quedan guardados, sin necesidad de hacer mucho más.

Near the end of the tour, we walked down the enigmatic Los Lanceros Street, one of those streets that makes you feel like you're traveling back in time🕰️ The historic houses have been beautifully remodeled and retain that old-world charm that gives the place so much character. Walking around there is an experience in itself.

There are many shops and restaurants in this area, so it's easy to find different dining options at different prices. As we walked down the street, the tour guide began asking questions about everything we had learned during the tour. Those who answered correctly would win a basket... Can you guess who was one of the winners? Yes, me 😄🍦 (it was definitely worth paying attention).

Then we walked along the boardwalk for a while, taking photos, chatting, and enjoying the nighttime atmosphere. Already pleasantly tired from the day and with our heads full of memories, we were told it was time to return to the bus and finally head home.

Ya casi al final del recorrido, caminamos por la enigmática Calle Los Lanceros, una de esas calles que te hacen sentir que estás viajando en el tiempo 🕰️ Las casas históricas están hermosamente remodeladas y conservan ese encanto antiguo que le da tanta personalidad al lugar. Caminar por ahí es una experiencia en sí misma.

En esta zona hay muchas tiendas y locales, así que es fácil encontrar distintas opciones para cenar, con distintos precios. Mientras recorríamos la calle, la guía del tour comenzó a hacer algunas preguntas sobre todo lo que habíamos aprendido durante el paseo. Quienes respondieran correctamente se ganarían una barquilla… ¿Adivinan quién fue una de las ganadoras? Pues sí, yo 😄🍦 (claramente valió la pena haber prestado atención).

Luego caminamos por el malecón durante un rato, tomando fotos, conversando y disfrutando del ambiente nocturno. Ya con el cansancio rico del día y la cabeza llena de recuerdos, nos avisaron que era momento de regresar al autobús y, finalmente, volver a casa.

This last trip of 2025 was just what we needed: a simple day, well spent and full of little moments that will stay with us forever💛 From the calm of the beach to the charm of the village and the port at dusk, it was a beautiful way to end the year as a family, without rushing and with peace of mind. Thank you to @cardinalroutes for accompanying us on this experience and for showing us so many places full of history and charm. Without a doubt, it was the best way to say goodbye to the year✨

Este último viaje del 2025 fue justo lo que necesitábamos: un día sencillo, bien aprovechado y lleno de pequeños momentos que se quedan guardados💛 Desde la calma de la playa hasta el encanto del pueblo y el puerto al anochecer, fue una forma hermosa de cerrar el año en familia, sin prisas y con el corazón tranquilo. Gracias a @cardinalroutes por acompañarnos en esta experiencia y por mostrarnos tantos rincones llenos de historia y encanto. Sin duda, fue la mejor manera de despedir el año✨
