Ohrid, Macedonia, for me was not just another destination on the map, but a place that welcomed me quietly, solemnly, and warmly, just the way one wishes to end one year and begin a new one.The road to Ohrid took me through mountains and winding roads, and as I approached the city, I felt like I was entering a space where time passed more slowly. Lake Ohrid appeared before me, calm and wide, as if already announcing the special days to come.I found accommodation in the old part of town, not far from the lake. The first walk was an introduction to what Ohrid would mean to me. The cobblestone streets, houses with wooden terraces and views down to the water gave the impression of a city living in harmony with its pas

I walked without haste, stopping at each church and listening to the silence that was occasionally broken by the footsteps of passers-by.
I visited the Church of Saint John the Theologian at Cana, a place that particularly lingered with me.
I stood above the lake and watched the sky and water merge. In those moments, my thoughts were calm, as if the year that was coming to an end had already packed away everything that was difficult and left room for something new. I continued my walk to Samuel's Fortress, from where there is a view of the entire city.

The days before New Year's were filled with sightseeing, but also with spontaneous moments. I sat in small cafes by the lake, drinking hot drinks and talking to people I had just met.Everyone had a story about Ohrid, about the summers, the festivals, the winters that are quieter but special. I felt welcome, not just as a tourist, but as someone who shared a curiosity and respect for the city.As New Year's Eve approached, the city took on a different rhythm. The center was decorated with lights, and the squares were slowly filling with people. I felt an excitement that came not from noise, but from anticipation.I decided to spend New Year's Eve outside, among the people, by the lake that watched everything in silence.
As the evening began, the city was filled with the sounds of music and conversation.I stood among strangers who, in that moment, had become part of the same feeling. The counting of the last seconds of the old year was loud, but there was silence inside me.As the clock struck midnight, the sky above Ohrid was lit up by fireworks reflected in the lake. That scene remained etched in my memory — the light on the water, the smiles of the people, and the feeling that I was in the right place.

I wished the New Year to the people around me, toasted with those whose names I didn't know, but I shared the moment. That welcome wasn't lavish, but it was sincere. I felt grateful to be here, far from everyday life, in a city that knows how to provide peace and joy at the same time.On the first morning of the New Year, I went out early. The city was quiet, the streets empty, and the lake calm. I walked along the shore and thought about the past night, about the people and moments that spontaneously came together into one beautiful memory.I took the opportunity to visit Biljana's springs, which Ohrid is famous for.Visiting Ohrid and celebrating New Year's Eve there became more than just a trip for me.
