Contemporary art in Lecce

Today I bring you to discover the MUST (Historical Museum of the City of Lecce), one of southern Italy's gems for modern and contemporary art.
This beautiful museum is housed within the ancient monastery of Santa Chiara, in the heart of the city's historic center. It's a must-see experience for anyone visiting the beautiful Puglia region!

Oggi vi porto a scoprire il MUST (Museo Storico della Città di Lecce), una delle gemme del sud Italia per quanto riguarda l’arte moderna e contemporanea.
Questo bellissimo museo è ospitato all’interno dell’antico monastero di Santa Chiara, nel pieno centro storico della città. È un’esperienza da non perdere per chiunque stia visitando la bellissima regione Puglia!

The MUST museum's uniqueness lies in its ability to bring together, under one roof, the layers of the ancient city and the most daring expressions of contemporary art.
The tour begins in the 16th-century cloister. It begins on the ground floor, where the museum recounts the city's roots with multimedia and sensory installations.
For example, you can touch a model of the city representing the Messapian, Roman, and Baroque eras.
La particolarità del museo MUST risiede nella capacità di far convivere, sotto lo stesso tetto, le stratificazioni della città antica e le espressioni più audaci dell’arte contemporanea.
Il percorso comincia dal chiostro cinquecentesco. Si parte dal piano terra dove il museo racconta le radici della città con installazioni multimediali e sensoriali.
Ad esempio, c’è la possibilità di toccare con mano un modellino della città che rappresenta le epoche messapica, romana e barocca.

The visit continues on the first and second floors, where you can admire the modern and contemporary art gallery.
Here you'll find works by the famous Salento sculptor Cosimo Carlucci, along with other leading figures of the 20th century, such as the Morrocco family.
La visita prosegue al primo e al secondo piano, dove si può ammirare la galleria di arte moderna e contemporanea.
Qui si trovano opere del famoso scultore salentino Cosimo Carlucci, insieme ad altri protagonisti del Novecento come la famiglia Morrocco.

What I appreciated most about the museum is undoubtedly its dynamism. Indeed, this artistic hub aims to be an urban laboratory for the city, constantly evolving.
The museum's rooms host temporary exhibitions, performances, research projects, and photographs.

L’aspetto che ho apprezzato di più del museo è sicuramente la sua dinamicità. Infatti, questo polo artistico vuole rappresentare un laboratorio urbano per la città, in continuo movimento.
Le sale del museo ospitano mostre temporanee, performance, progetti di ricerca e fotografie.

I say the Museum has amazing art works. The one of a couple joined together reminds me of the movie inspired by the eruption of Mount Vesuvius in 79 AD. Lovely pictures!.
