The ancient history of my country, which really is not that old, is barely five hundred years old since that Genoese in the service of the Catholic Monarchs of Spain put the first shoe that set foot on this land with the latest cry of fashion, which would be followed by the cries of the natives in the stocks. It always arrives with the seduction with which literature and the arts, in general, have illustrated the founding era with the remnants of the late Middle Ages.

In today's Havana there are still some remnants of that romantic era that refuse to disappear with the passage of time and the predatory actions of people. Pieces of relics that keep the historical memory of times gone by.

One of the segments of that history that has always seduced me is that of the wall of Havana, with its rusty blocks of quarry stone, which, if they are not demolished by the destructive force of man, seems to be eternal.

Looking at the pieces scattered in different parts of the long-lived city, I realize that that first city was really very small And the people of Havana must have soon felt suffocated by being between those, although not very high, monolithic or almost monolithic walls.

To my knowledge, the most extensive testimony of that stone limit is found in the area of the current Western Rai lway Central Station, near the Laxoubre docks, also close to the Port ring.

There, in addition to one of the access doors, on whose wall there is a map cast in metal embedded in the wall with the layout of the old town, the one inhabited by our first inhabitants of the capital, the so-called "Arsenal" is marked so that the visitor has reference, a section in which today the museum of the speleological society of Cuba operates, as also stated in a small plaque on the wall.

Today I made a special and direct visit to this relic of the military architecture of Cuba from the colonial period.

Before, I passed by other remnants of the wall, such as the one that guards the front of the former Presidential Palace, now the Museum of the Revolution, or the one near the Avenida del Puerto.

But when we talk about the wall of Havana, we are referring to these three pieces of walls on the side of the train terminal, which reach close to the "Laxoubre" terminal and which officially has signage that defines it as such.

For me, it is always a historical and romantic event to meet this time traveler, who, Without moving from where he is, he gives us the vision of other times.

La historia antigua de mi país, que realmente no es tan antigua, apenas tiene quinientos años desde que aquel genovés al servicio de los Reyes Católicos de España pusiera el primer zapato que pisara esta tierra con el último grito de la moda, al que le seguirían los gritos de los nativos en el cepo. Siempre llega con la seducción con que la literatura y las artes, en general, nos han ilustrado la época fundacional con los remanentes de la Edad Media tardía.

En la Habana actual todavía quedan algunos remanentes de aquella romántica época que se resisten a desaparecer con el paso del tiempo y la acción depredadora de las personas. Pedazos de reliquias que guardan la memoria histórica de tiempos idos.

Uno de los segmentos de esa historia que siempre me ha seducido es el de la muralla de la Habana, con sus enmohecidos bloques de piedra de cantería, que, si no son derribados por la fuerza destructora del hombre, pareciera que va a ser eterna.

Mirando los pedazos diseminados en diferentes puntos de la longeva ciudad, me doy cuenta de que aquella primera urbe era realmente muy pequeña. Y los habaneros muy pronto se debieron sentir asfixiados por estar entre aquellas, aunque no muy altas, paredes monolíticas o casi monolíticas.

Que yo sepa, el testimonio más amplio de aquel límite pétreo lo encontramos en el área de la actual Estación Centro de Ferrocarriles de Occidente, cerca de los muelles del Laxoubre, cerquita también del anillo del Puerto.

Allí, además de una de las puertas de acceso, en cuyo muro hay un mapa fundido en metal incrustado en la pared con el trazado de la antigua villa, la que habitaron nuestros primeros capitalinos, está señalado para que el visitante tenga referencia el llamado "Arsenal", un tramo en el que hoy funciona el museo de la sociedad espeleológica de Cuba, según también consta en una pequeña placa en la pared.

Hoy he hecho una visita especial y directa a esta reliquia de la arquitectura militar de la Cuba de la etapa colonial.

Antes, pasé por otros remanentes de la muralla, como el que custodia el frente del otrora Palacio Presidencial, hoy museo de la Revolución, o el que está cerca de la avenida del Puerto.

Pero cuando se habla de la muralla de La Habana, nos referimos a estos tres pedazos de muros al costado de la terminal de trenes, que llegan hasta cerca de la terminal "Laxoubre" y que tiene oficialmente una señalética que la define como tal.

Para mí, siempre es un suceso histórico y romántico el encuentro con esta viajera del tiempo, que, sin moverse de donde está, nos regala la visión de otros tiempos.
