Almost without stopping, I arrived at a beautiful place in my homeland to describe to you what gives me the feeling of an oasis of exotic nature that, despite being in a countryside environment, makes a difference with the rest of the environment.

The new conditions, as a result of the energy crisis in the country, make moving or traveling to distances a little far from the comfort zone a task of establishing priorities. For this reason, the search for motifs and visual testimonies to produce publications in the hive outside the territory has made me turn my gaze towards the closest environment and discover or rediscover the beauties and interesting things that live there.

The place I am arriving at with a step a little tired from the long cross-country walk under the morning sun of this March day, accompanied by fresh gusts of winter breezes, I have already talked about it at some point.
The site is a small farm currently expanding, the product of the efforts of the owner, a young entrepreneur from the municipality.

It is known by "Finca el Palmar" and is located about three hundred meters from the highway that connects the town of San Luis Pinar del Río with the central or Pan-American highway.

When I say that it is an oasis, perhaps I am not exaggerating much, because although it is not in a desert, it remembers it, since in that place the environment changes automatically.
When we advance from the highway along a secondary path towards the farm, we are greeted by a row of palm trees that were planted intentionally by human hands. They look beautiful in their perfect alignment and contribute to the welcome aesthetic, but never as slender and exotic as those that grow in the backyard of the main home, planted by the expert and most professional hands of nature.

The house was built at the top of a small hill and we do not know if the palm trees that remain haughty and proud there, despite the passage of devastating hurricanes, ascend or descend the slope. Already from the road, if we look closely, we see the spout of palm trees, forming a harmonious group that announces a pleasant stay to visitors.

Since the last time I visited this place, something has changed in the surroundings of the house, since the producer, aware of the possibilities that nature offers, has set his sights on the long term. Based on experiences with targeted groups of visitors for different reasons, he prepares the place by creating conditions to turn the farm into a tourist destination linked to tobacco and hiking tourism. Nearby, on their properties, there is a small natural tavern called "La Cueva de Mendes".

With the aim of providing good service to the visitor, they built a small "ranchón" with elements of vernacular architecture, which harmoniously integrates into the country environment.

The place also delights, as it functions as a natural viewpoint from where we can enjoy the geography that surrounds the property, beyond, to a great distance, looking for the green-blue horizon of the vegueros The area where the ranch is located is known as Gusinacabo and is a very productive tobacco area.

Every time I visit the place, I can't help but get excited. Hey, I am a romantic lover of nature and it seems that the spirit of the artist that I have inside is activated by the vision that opens before my eyes, especially that cane field of palm trees moving their elongated plumes in contrast with the blue of the sky, or inviting the clouds to participate in their dance up there in the heights.
The place also delights, as it works as a natural viewpoint from where we can enjoy the geography that surrounds the property, you beyond, to a great distance, searching for the horizon green-blue of the vegueros. The area where the ranch is located is known as Gusinacabo and is a very productive tobacco area.

Every time I visit the place, I can't help but get excited. Casi sin detenerme, llegué a un hermoso lugar de mi terruño para describirles lo que a mí me da la sensación de un oasis de naturaleza exótica que, a pesar de estar en un entorno de campo, marca una diferencia con el resto del entorno.

Las nuevas condiciones, producto de la crisis energética en el país, hacen que moverse o trasladarse a distancias un poco alejadas de la zona de confort sea una tarea de establecer prioridades. Por ese motivo, la búsqueda de motivos y testimonios visuales para producir publicaciones en la colmena fuera del territorio me ha hecho volver la mirada hacia el entorno más cercano y descubrir o redescubrir las bellezas y cosas interesantes que en él habitan.

El lugar al que estoy llegando con paso un poco cansado por la larga caminata a campo traviesa bajo el sol mañanero de este día de marzo, acompañado de rachas frescas de brisas invernales, ya alguna vez he hablado de él.

El sitio es una pequeña finca actualmente en expansión, producto del esfuerzo del dueño, un joven emprendedor del municipio.

Por "Finca el Palmar" se conoce y está ubicada a cerca de trescientos metros de la carretera que conecta al poblado de San Luis Pinar del Río con la carretera central o Panamericana.

.Cuando digo que es un oasis, quizás no esté exagerando mucho, pues aunque no está en un desierto, lo recuerda, ya que en ese lugar el ambiente cambia automáticamente.
Ya cuando se avanza desde la carretera por un camino secundario hacia la finca, nos recibe una hilera de palmeras que fueron sembradas intencionalmente por manos humanas. Se ven bonitas en su perfecta alineación y aportan a la estética de bienvenida, pero nunca tan esbeltas y exóticas como las que en el patio trasero de la vivienda principal crecen, sembradas por las expertas y más profesionales manos de la naturaleza.

La vivienda fue construida rematando la cima de una pequeña colina y no sabemos si las palmeras que allí permanecen altivas y orgullosas, a pesar del paso de devastadores huracanes, ascienden o descienden por la ladera. Ya desde la carretera, si fijamos la vista, vemos el caño de palmeras, formando un conjunto armónico que anuncia una estancia agradable a los visitantes.

Desde la última vez que visité este lugar, algo ha cambiado en el entorno de la vivienda, pues el productor, consciente de las posibilidades que le ofrece la naturaleza, ha puesto la vista a largo plazo. A partir de las experiencias con grupos dirigidos de visitantes por diferentes motivos, prepara el lugar creando condiciones para convertir la finca en un destino turístico vinculado al tabaco y al turismo de senderismo. Allí cerca, en sus propiedades, hay una pequeña taberna natural a la que nombran "La Cueva de Mendes".

Con el objetivo de brindar una buena atención al visitante, construyó un pequeño "ranchón" con elementos de la arquitectura vernácula, que se integra armónicamente al entorno campestre.

El lugar también deleita, pues funciona como un mirador natural desde donde podemos recrearnos con la geografía que circunda la finca, más allá, hasta gran distancia, buscando el horizonte verde-azul de los vegueros. La zona donde está enclavada la estancia se conoce con el nombre de Gusinacabo y es una zona tabacalera muy productiva.

Cada vez que visito el lugar, no puedo evitar emocionarme. Oye, soy un romántico amante de la naturaleza y parece que el espíritu de artista que llevo dentro se activa con la visión que ante mis ojos se abre, sobre todo aquel cañaveral de palmeras moviendo sus alargados penachos en contraste con el azul del cielo, o convidando a las nubes a participar de su danza allá arriba en las alturas.

Quisiera que un día se decidieran a venir y estar unas horas en este ambiente y me digan además cómo se han sentido. Yo, por mi parte, estoy orgulloso y agradecido de que aquí, en mi terruño, pueda descubrir las bellezas que cotidianamente nos acompañan.
