Today I want to tell you about my visit to Dubrovnik. Here, much of the coastline is rocky. There are a few small, picturesque beaches in the old town, but they are difficult to access.
Dubrovnik is usually considered a summer destination, but I couldn't wait and decided to go ahead of the season. Now is definitely the time to enjoy the peace and atmosphere and I don't regret my visit at all.
Lovrijenac Fortress is located in the western part of the city outside the city walls, on a 36-meter steep cliff jutting into the sea. According to old legends, the fortress was built in just 3 months to prevent the Venetians from building theirs on the same site. Today, many Shakespearean plays are performed here during the Summer Festival.
If you have a free weekend, I recommend you to go to Dubrovnik. You won't go wrong, as it is a beautiful city and not a typical tourist destination, but at the same time it is truly remarkable and very exciting.
Although ancient, the city is full of tourist attractions, restaurants, cafes and bars. I highly recommend you to visit one of the fish restaurants, preferably away from the main streets. You know that prices usually decrease in direct proportion to the distance from the center.
As for hotels, you could stay in one of the many in the new town (at prices from 30-40 euros and up per person in the low season) or save a few kunas (the local currency) and stay in a hotel in the areas adjacent to Dubrovnik, part of the Dubrovnik Riviera. They are located 12-13 km from the city itself, but most of them are served by public transport, which will take you to the center of events in a matter of minutes (buses run every 1 hour, with the last one at 00:00 on weekdays and 1:00 on weekends)
And one more thing, in general, Croatians are extremely hospitable and well-intentioned people. However, it is a useful piece of advice not to bring up the topic of the military actions of the 1990s, because they still keep the bitter memories, as evidenced by some buildings half-destroyed by the bombing, deliberately left to remind people of what it was.
