Un pequeño río en Guaimire (Venezuela) // A small river in Guaimire (Venezuela)

Hay lugares que con tan solo verlos ya nos transmiten una frescura de esas que se hacen añorar, sobre todo en temporadas donde el calor se siente con más intensidad. En esta oportunidad, ese pequeño oasis se encuentra en un sector rural llamado Guaimire, ubicado en el estado Bolívar (Venezuela) y que podemos describir como un lugar muy campestre lleno de vegetación y ríos que son una buena opción para compartir y pasar una tarde bastante agradable. El ambiente es espectacular para los amantes de la naturaleza y esos lugares que parecen hablar a través de la tranquilidad que se percibe en el lugar.

There are places that, just by looking at them, evoke a sense of freshness that we long for, especially during the hottest months of the year. On this occasion, that little oasis is found in a rural area called Guaimire, located in Bolívar state (Venezuela), which we can describe as a very rural spot full of vegetation and rivers – a great option for spending a rather pleasant afternoon together. The atmosphere is spectacular for nature lovers and those who appreciate places that seem to speak through the tranquillity that pervades the area.

Estuve preguntando sobre el nombre de este río o por lo menos el nombre específico de ese tramo y es interesante que muchos de los habitantes simplemente se referían a el como "el río". El agua es muy clara, con una temperatura aceptable y hasta podría decir que menos cálida en comparación al clima en general. En su mayoría el río se extiende sobre zonas rocosas y aunque hay algunos puntos en los que la profundidad es mayor, a rasgos generales todo el espacio se mantiene a un nivel en el que puedes acostarte o sentarte a disfrutar del agua.

En tiempos de invierno el escenario cambia totalmente, al punto de que el agua al aumentar en caudal y fuerza se convierte en un riesgo incluso hasta para quienes suelen pescar en dicho lugar. Las personas que viven en este sector practican la agricultura y la pesca, y su abastecimiento principal con respecto al agua proviene precisamente de los ríos. En este sentido, cobra mucha importancia el cuidado y la atención que tienen hacia estos lugares y como los mismos habitantes se esfuerzan por mantener los ríos y sus lugares cercanos libres de basura y otro tipo de contaminación.

I asked around about the name of this river, or at least the specific name of that stretch, and it’s interesting that many of the locals simply referred to it as ‘the river’. The water is very clear, with a pleasant temperature; I’d even say it’s cooler than the general climate. For the most part, the river flows through rocky areas and, although there are some points where it is deeper, generally speaking the whole stretch remains at a level where you can lie down or sit and enjoy the water.

In winter, the scene changes completely, to the extent that as the water’s flow and force increase, it becomes a risk even for those who usually fish there. The people living in this area work in agriculture and fishing, and their main source of water comes precisely from the rivers. In this regard, the care and attention they give to these places is of great importance, and the local inhabitants themselves make every effort to keep the rivers and their surrounding areas free of rubbish and other forms of pollution.

Lo bueno de ir en temporada de verano es que en ciertas zonas las rocas forman una especie de cataratas en las que te puedes sentar y simplemente dejar que el agua te cubra desde arriba hasta abajo. En algunas partes las rocas suelen ser un poco resbaladizas por lo cual lo mejor es caminar con mucho cuidado o incluso hasta casi arrodillados se podría decir, y así poder disfrutar del momento sin riesgo alguno. Ya cuando cae la noche el agua se torna más fría de lo normal, y aunque no existe amenaza de algún animal de igual forma las personas cercanas evitan al grado posible estar allí hasta altas horas de la noche.

Aquí en Guaimire hay varios lugares con estas características y, desde mi punto de vista, creo que lo que ha ayudado a mantener estos espacios ambientales en plena esencia es que no están tan cerca de la ciudad, lo cual implica un buen arreglo de viaje para poder llegar hasta aquí. En nuestro caso una diligencia de otra índole nos permitió ver más de cerca el lugar, dejándonos un impacto como para regresar y pasar un día a pleno bajo la sombra de un buen árbol y con el río en su nivel y temperatura ideal (esperemos que no sea en invierno ). En este aspecto, hasta el lugar menos conocido puede convertirse en el hogar ideal para disfrutar de la naturaleza y sus detalles.

The great thing about visiting in the summer is that in certain areas the rocks form a sort of waterfall where you can sit and simply let the water wash over you from head to toe. In some places the rocks tend to be a bit slippery, so it’s best to walk very carefully – or even almost on your knees, you might say – so you can enjoy the moment without any risk. Come nightfall, the water gets colder than usual, and although there’s no danger from animals, people in the area still try to avoid staying there late into the night as much as possible.

Here in Guaimire there are several places with these characteristics and, in my view, I believe that what has helped to keep these natural areas in their true essence is that they are not so close to the city, which means you need to make a proper journey to get here. In our case, a trip for other reasons allowed us to see the place more closely, leaving us with such a lasting impression that we want to return and spend a full day in the shade of a fine tree, with the river at its ideal level and temperature (let’s hope it’s not in winter). In this respect, even the least well-known spot can become the ideal place to enjoy nature and all its details.
