The most spectacular archaeological museum in Italy

IMG_1031.JPG

Those who have already visited the city of Verona in Italy are probably very familiar with its Roman Theatre, present in practically all the Roman cities in the world, but this one in Verona is probably the best preserved at least in Italy, where in the summer shows are held here and you can also attend various concerts. Let's say that I already knew this theatre for this function and I had also visited it on a school trip, but what really struck me about my visit was the fact that I discovered that here there is an archaeological museum dedicated specifically to the Roman Theatre.

I must say, that it is already very interesting to see the theatre so stripped of its scenography that they will soon arrive to set it up, think that this theatre was built in the first century BC during the Principate of Octavian Augustus taking advantage of the slopes of this hill and at the time it was truly a masterpiece of Roman engineering.

But, the museum is located a little higher than the theater, you have to go up quite a bit, and after I took advantage of visiting this museum since on the first Sunday of the month from October to May you only pay one euro to enter this beautiful museum, otherwise the full price to visit it would be €9, while of course there are reductions for over 65s and also for students.

I must say honestly, that the price varies the visit because from here there is a beautiful panorama of the entire Adige area that runs alongside the city of Verona and therefore it is a truly romantic place where you can take beautiful photos.

Practically, the museum was set up inside the former fifteenth-century Convent of San Gerolamo, because this convent, like other houses in the area, let's say other buildings, were built over the years also on top of the theatre, and it was thanks to Andrea Munga, a wealthy merchant collector who had this great passion for antiquities, who purchased this area back in 1814 and began excavating and bringing to light the theatre itself but also the many finds that are found inside this beautiful archaeological museum.

Naturally, over the last few years several restorations have been carried out on this museum and also a new layout which makes the visit much more beautiful and much more interesting. In fact, even I, who am from the area, discovered new things and it was truly a very interesting visit which I recommend to anyone.

Fortunately, this area was purchased by the municipality of Verona at the beginning of the 20th century, and is now a highly visited museum. But above all, as I was saying, inside there are various sculptural and decorative elements, mosaics, funerary inscriptions, sculptures, and everyday objects. What I always like about these museums is that they are located within another museum, this former convent, which has been restored, and it's beautiful to see how it was structured.

I hope you have the opportunity to visit this museum and thank you for reading this post, hoping you found it interesting.
