Hi friends, today I wanted to share with you another interesting place I saw in Turin, when I was there for my long weekend, a very visited place, I won't hide from you that it is another museum, by now you will have understood that I am a bit obsessed with museums, it is the royal palace of Turin, which among other things has just been restored and therefore is completely usable.
The royal palace is the historic residence of Savoy in the heart of the city of Turin. Naturally, if you buy the Turin card, a visit to this beautiful museum will be included, which includes the royal apartments, the royal armory, the chapel of the Shroud and the Savoy gallery, but also the gardens and the museum of antiquities, which unfortunately I did not see because that part was closed. The palace was built on an old palace that was already there because the Savoy dynasty moved the capital to Turin in 1563 and therefore wanted to have a very beautiful residence to demonstrate their prestige.
I was very fascinated by the royal apartments which are very sumptuous and very beautiful to see, much more beautiful than those of the Reggia di Venaria, but above all the part that struck me the most is the royal armory with one of the collections of weapons and armor in my opinion the most beautiful in the world, but I was also fascinated by the Chapel of the Shroud which is a baroque masterpiece by Guarino Guarini where once there was the Shroud which was then moved to the Cathedral, and also the works that were present in the Savoy gallery, works of the most important painters in the world, really so much to see and let's say in four hours I didn't see everything.
However, if you want to visit this complex of royal museums, it is open from Tuesday to Sunday from 9am to 7pm and in reality the ticket costs €18. Naturally, if you have the Torino card, entry is completely free, but unfortunately you cannot book in advance and this is not a good thing. Consider that to do the whole tour, in my opinion, it takes even more than 4 hours, while if you want to visit only the royal gardens, they are completely free because they are a public part of the city of Turin.
In conclusion, I can say that royal palaces anywhere in the world are always fascinating because they always tell you the story of a dynasty, in this case that of Savoy which in my opinion is not told much especially in school because they probably tried a little to erase their history as they had links with fascism. However, in my opinion it is always a story to remember for Italy because Turin was the first capital. I hope you enjoyed my story and also my photos. See you soon.
