A trip to Rovereto in Trentino!!

On Sunday, since it was a beautiful day and the weather was still holding up well—it was actually quite warm—I decided to take a trip to Rovereto. I drove there from my home, and in about an hour, I reached this significant town in Trentino-Alto Adige. My plan was to visit the museum of modern and contemporary art, known as the Mart, as well as the home of the Futurist artist Fortunato Depero. I also wanted to wander through the medieval part of town, as there’s always something interesting to see and share.

In this first post, I’m sharing a bit of a medley of the things I’ve seen. Later, I’ll create posts focusing on each individual place I visited, perhaps providing some useful information for anyone who might want to see these spots—especially those with a particular interest in art.

As I mentioned, as soon as I arrived, I visited the Mart. It is one of the most important museums of modern and contemporary art in Italy; having opened in 2002, it is a relatively modern institution. It houses over 2,000 works, including pieces by contemporary artists. I didn’t have to pay an entrance fee because it was the first Sunday of the month—otherwise, there is an admission charge. I also saw two temporary exhibitions, which were quite interesting. However, I wasn’t entirely satisfied with the visit; I had already been there a few years ago, and I didn’t notice any significant evolution in the museum since then.

Then, after a short lunch break, I went to visit the home of a very unique artist named Fortunato Depero. Let’s just say this museum is truly one-of-a-kind—but I’ll tell you more about it in a dedicated post. In any case, the museum has been around since 1957 and is included in the admission ticket for the MART. It’s set up inside an old medieval building and spans three floors; it’s really quite interesting.

Finally, I also visited the Church of San Marco—arguably the main church in Rovereto—which dates back to the 1400s, when this area was under the Republic of Venice. I found it to be a very interesting and well-maintained church. I also took a stroll through the streets of Rovereto, where I discovered several points of interest—including the place where Mozart stayed during his first trip to Italy—and, as it happens, he even gave one of his early concerts inside the very church I mentioned.

Thank you for reading this post all the way to this point. I hope you’ll follow along for my future posts, where I’ll go into a bit more detail about what I’ve seen. See you next time!

It is a nice bonus when visiting a museum happens to fall on free admission day. That church with ties to Mozart sounds like a fascinating stop especially considering its history under Venetian rule.
