Remember that a while ago I had a very ambitious goal, one I've been working on little by little? A year ago, I set out to visit 100 castles in Portugal. Well, while I was visiting central Portugal to complete the list, I decided to take it to the next level! It turns out there's a Guinness World Record held by an Indian man who visited 19 castles in 24 hours. Obviously, he didn't just count castles; he also counted palaces and fortresses. I was motivated to try and set an "informal" record in Portugal and become the first Spanish speaker to visit more castles in 24 hours, in addition to breaking other records.🏰🚩
¿Recuerdan que hace un tiempo tenía un objetivo muy ambicioso en el cual he venido trabajando poco a poco? Hace un año me propuse visitar 100 castillos en Portugal. Bueno, mientras realizaba algunas visitas en el centro de Portugal para completarlas, ¡decidí pasar de nivel! Resulta que existe un récord Guinness de un hindú que visitó 19 castillos en 24 horas. Obviamente él no contó solo castillos, también contó palacios y fortalezas. Me motivé a intentar dejar una marca "informal" en Portugal y así ser el primer hispanohablante en visitar más castillos en 24 horas, además de sumar otros récords.🏆📍
In the 12th century, Portugal's borders were much shorter than they are today; therefore, this defensive line of 12th- and 13th-century castles bordering the "Serra da Estrela" was strategically built there to defend the borders against Spain and the Moors.📸🏆
En el siglo XII las fronteras de Portugal eran mucho más cortas de lo que son hoy en día. Por tanto, esta línea defensiva de castillos de los siglos XII y XIII que bordeaba la "Serra da Estrela" fue construida allí de forma estratégica para defender los límites con España y los moros.📍🚙
It was the first castle of the challenge, dating from the 12th century, and was a donation from Doña Teresa. In the 13th century, King Dinis ordered it to be rebuilt to protect the surrounding river areas. The peculiarity of this castle is that it is a partial ruin where, in the 19th century, the villagers dismantled it to use the stones for the construction of houses, bridges, etc.🚙📍
Fue el primer castillo del reto, data del siglo XII y fue una donación de doña Teresa. En el siglo XIII, el rey Dinis lo mandó reconstruir para proteger las zonas fluviales de los alrededores. La particularidad de este castillo es que es una ruina parcial, ya que en el siglo XIX los aldeanos lo desmantelaron para usar las piedras en la construcción de casas, puentes, etc.🌍📸

Of medieval origin, dating from the 12th century, it was ordered to be built by King Sancho I. Like the other castles, it served to reinforce the mountain border against the troops of León. Today the castle as such does not exist; it was on the top of the hill, but the walls can still be seen.🚙🏰
De origen medieval, data del siglo XII y fue mandado construir por D. Sancho I. Al igual que los otros castillos, sirvió para reforzar la frontera de la sierra contra las tropas de "León". Hoy en día el castillo como tal no existe; estaba en la cima de la colina, pero sí se alcanzan a ver las murallas.🏆💂🏻♀️
THIRD Belmonte Castle📍 / TERCER castillo Belmonte🏰
This castle dates from the 13th century, during the reigns of Sancho I and Afonso III. It was donated to the Cabral family, who were important people at the time. If you look at the castle, you'll see the Brazilian flag flying because Pedro Álvares Cabral, the navigator who discovered Brazil in 1500, was born here. It's very well preserved, and there's a 2-euro entrance fee.🚩🏰
Este es del siglo XIII, del reinado de Sancho I y Afonso III. Fue donado a la familia Cabral, quienes eran personas importantes para la época. Si observamos el castillo, tiene izada la bandera de Brasil; esto se debe a que aquí nació Pedro Álvares Cabral, el navegante que descubrió Brasil en el año 1500. Está muy bien preservado y se pagan 2 euros para entrar.🚙✈️

If someone asked me which castle was the most difficult to film, I would say this one without hesitation! And it's not a small number; there are 74 castles so far!! This fortress dates back to the 13th century, specifically 1228; it has a prominent cistern, perched on a granite outcrop, which gives it its special touch.📍🚩
Si alguien me preguntase cuál castillo fue el más difícil de filmar, ¡diría sin pensarlo este! Y no es una cifra corta: ¡¡son 74 castillos hasta ahora!! Esta fortaleza es del siglo XIII, exactamente del 1228; tiene una cisterna sobresaliente y está en un peñasco de granito, lo que le da su toque especial.🏰🌍
FIFTH castle of Sabugal📍 / QUINTO castillo de Sabugal🏰
According to the references, it's one of the best-preserved castles in Portugal. Personally, I've seen others in the same condition. Now, I'm not sure if when they say "preserved" they mean it has "few restorations." If so, it makes sense. It dates from the 13th century and is famous for its five-cornered tower, making it one of the best for flanking the enemy and also unique in all of Portugal. It's open to the public, but there's an entrance fee.🚩📍
Según las referencias, es uno de los castillos mejor preservados de Portugal. En lo personal, ya he visto otros iguales. Ahora bien, no sé si cuando hablan de preservado se refieren a que tiene "pocas restauraciones"; si es así, tiene sentido. Es del siglo XIII y es famoso por su torre de cinco esquinas, lo que la hacía una de las mejores para flanquear al enemigo, además de ser única en todo Portugal. Está abierto al público, pero se paga entrada.🚙✈️

I've never felt such a strong gust of wind as today! The challenge this incredible "castle" presented was insane. Due to political and territorial issues, it was never finished, so we assume no king lived here. However, there are archaeological records of everyday objects found within the walls dating back to the medieval era, specifically the 13th century. Fortresses don't have such an ancient definition; on the contrary, they could be said to date from the 15th century. Therefore, this castle has everything necessary to be classified as one!🚩🌍
Nunca habia sentido una rafaga de viento tan fuerte como hoy! fue una locura el reto que me presento este "castillo" increible por temas politicos y territoriales nunca llego a terminarse, por lo que suponemos no vivio un rey pero si hay registros arqueologicos que se han localizados objetos cotideanos dentro de las murallas que datan de la era medieval, es del siglo XIII; las fortalezas no tienen una definicion tan antigua al contrario podrian decirse que son del siglo XV, por tanto este castillo tiene todo lo necesario para clasificarse en uno!🏰🌍

I christened this one the castle of the sky! I thought the one in Marvão was tall, but this one surpasses it by more than 400 meters. At over 1,000 m, it is the tallest castle in Portugal, from the 12th century, commissioned by Sancho I; today you can see the keep.✈️🚙📍

This castle dates from the 13th century, is located within the "Serra da Estrela" mountain range, and is built at an altitude of over 800 meters. It has a curious legend about an eagle that threw a trout into the castle courtyard. Later, the king sent the trout to the enemy, saying that he was giving them food because he had plenty. When the enemy received the food, they began to retreat because they thought the inhabitants had unlimited resources.🚙✈️

Dating from the 12th century, it is one of the fortresses that withstood the most attacks of those we have seen so far. Folgosinho Castle has historical records of its construction in the 12th century to help protect the mountain. It is built on a quartz mountain at a height of one thousand meters. This structure dates from the 12th century and watched over the Alva River basin, playing an important role for Coimbra. It had a very small wall and a manor tower; currently, only some walls and remains of the castle are left.📍🏰
