Today I bring you a unique adventure for my travel blog and channel! Exclusively for Hive, we're going to hike the "PR10 STR" trail, one of the lesser-known trails in the Sintra area, and one that holds a mystery. We'll be explorers trying to unravel the mystery of the "Anta." Is it a 5,000-year-old human construction? Or is it a whim of nature? You can draw your own conclusions... Meanwhile, I'll show you the way...🏔️🌏
In this picture we can see a comparison between a traditional Dolmen and the Anta Adrenunes, both have very different characteristics in origin and symmetries, but what caught my attention is that it is thought that it was used for ritual purposes, even though they did not bury a person, and that certainly warrants investigation.🙇🏻♀️🧭
The dolmen is located behind the mountain where the Santuario da Peninha is situated. You can actually take the same route and visit both sites, but be prepared physically and mentally. It's a brutal trail with more than 6 hours of hiking, and you'll have to climb over 500 meters and then descend to reach the dolmen. If you're up for it, you should leave very early, between 5 and 6:00 am.🏞️🏕️
I'm the only one doing this kind of thing, so participate for a super prize every month, you just have to be the top fan(If you don't live in Venezuela, you will earn the equivalent in your local currency or in HIVES.)🚩📸
I'd like to tell you it's a trail for the whole family, but no! If you start from where I began: "Alcabideche," it's an extremely difficult route, and of course, it's not suitable for children. What you could do is drive your vehicle to within 1 km of the Dolmen and then walk to the tourist site, but you'd take away all the excitement.📍📸
Janes is one of those isolated villages in Sintra, located 20 minutes by car from the town center or historic district. I always suggest that when hiking in Sintra, you should come well-prepared because it's very rare to find a place to buy food or drinks! Personally, I love places without tourists, where I can be alone walking in nature. If you share this preference, then this trail is perfect for you.🌍📍

If the weather conditions are ideal, believe me, you'll find one of the best viewpoints in Portugal here, and I'm not exaggerating! Unfortunately for me, it was cloudy and windy, and it even rained a little at one point, so I wasn't very lucky, but I'm sure you'll love the view.🚩📍
Some tips for the route📍🌏 / Algunos consejos para la ruta🚩📸

✅ Since it's a long route, prepare with comfortable clothing, long pants, a hat, and walking sticks.
✅ The trail is not circular; you will have to return to the starting point. You might want to use Google Maps if you are unfamiliar with the area to avoid getting lost.
✅ Do not interact with nature by disturbing, breaking, or bothering animals; stay on the paths
✅ Do not touch the fauna and flora, do not leave litter, do not destroy the ecosystem, stay on the path
✅If you are with other elderly people or children, use a vehicle to get closer to the dolmen.

The landscapes are amazing, aren't they? You won't find anything like Sintra anywhere else in Portugal. The closest thing is Arrábida, but it doesn't have the same atmosphere and scenery, plus there aren't such tall pine trees and rocks like these.📸🏞️

What is the geology of the area like?🌏🧭 / Como es la geologia de la zona📍🌏

I don't remember if I ever mentioned it on my blog, but Sintra is the result of a volcanic explosion millions of years ago, so it's common to see rocks like granite and syenite. This means you see rocks in places where it seems impossible they could have fallen.🏕️🌋

I could say I have some experience with dolmens; it's not my field of research, but I've visited and researched many, so I have some technical knowledge about this prehistoric engineering work. If you want to learn more, just look for this post:📍📸

The dolmen was investigated in the late 19th and early 20th centuries. One of the key characteristics for determining whether a megalithic complex corresponds to a dolmen is the presence of buried bones or fragments of objects, all dating from the fifth to the third century BC. Although Adrenunes resembles a dolmen, no bones were ever discovered.📸🧭

The Dolmen has many interesting features that suggest it was used in prehistoric times and that people were buried there. However, I believe the most valid theory is that it was a structure built by people, not for burials, but for worshipping gods, since the setting sun illuminates the entrance, as if it had been intentionally placed that way.🏕️🌏🌋

Personally, as a scientist, I need more evidence to prove that this is a dolmen; we cannot base our conclusion solely on its shape.📍
It wasn't a coincidence of nature; many pieces of evidence show that there was human intervention here.📍
A unique experience for adventurers and budget tourists📍
A trail with a 4/5 star rating in my opinion📍
